Got one with T-Mobile USA to use as an EDC (Every Day Carry) since it was on sale for $14.99; a "throwaway" price.
Very nice screen for a low-end device. Colors are vibrant and screen is bright, resolution more than ample in consideration of the phone's abilities.
FM radio! Finally a low-end Nokia offered in the US with this feature. Until now, the Nokia offerings here in the States have glaringly lacked this (we Americans pretty much get stuck with the rest of the world's cellular has-beens, at least on GSM), even though it is pretty standard on most of their models.
Tools: a decent suite, and even a composer.
Build quality: Seems solid enough, not exactly built like a proverbial brick s***house a la some older Nokia models (and new high-end ones) but not flimsy-feeling either.
Nice and slim, easy to put in your pocket and forget it's there.
Flashlight: a useful feature made somewhat less so because of the need to navigate menus to turn it on, but still handy. If there were one-button access, it would be much better.
Themes, tones, etc. As included by T-Mo, quite a generous selection making it easily customizable, with "something for everyone" in stark contrast to their previous scant and lame offerings. Also not overly "branded" by T-Mo, retains most of the original Nokia "flavor".
Ringers and tones are amply loud, except the keypad beeps which are too weak (for my taste) even on the highest setting.
Only two backlight timeout settings, both much too short.
No volume rocker, which is inconvenient as one has to take the phone away from one's ear to change the loudness in-call.
No notepad or voice recorder for to-do lists, etc. This is a major drawback. I suppose in a pinch, one could append notes as "contacts" or use the reminder calendar but it's silly not to have this simple yet important and nearly universal capability as a standalone (even on the cheapest phones).
Cannot be unlocked by hypersim. Functions will work and it will read your sim, but network radio is disabled. This is likely a new T-Mo strategy to combat the use of hypersims (until now, it seems most if not all T-Mo offerings could be easily unlocked this way). It may not apply to non-US models. In any case, I'm sure in time the good folks of the cellular-hacking community will find a counter-countermeasure. ;)
Keys not quite as tactile as other models; maybe because they are very smooth, and have no "standoff", it's hard to explain but the keypad has a quality about it that renders it subpar for heavy texters.
Center 4-way nav toggle is too flush with keypad and doesn't function as "select/enter" or "accept/ok" (the left hotkey serves this function) as on many other models so it takes getting used to.
No GPRS/WAP capability. I guess for a basic talk-and-text device this isn't really unexpected, however with that nice, bright and decent sized screen to make better use of it, it would have made more sense to include this feature on this model than others in the same price range such as the 2610 with it's little, dim postage-stamp of a display.
No mp3 player, memory card slot, or data port (the micro-usb/CA-45 on the left spine is for authorized technician and unauthorized hacker use only). ;) Neither any camera, bluetooth, picture viewer, etc. Of course these aren't really "cons" per se as nobody in their right mind should expect to find these on such a low-end phone.
Bottomline, for what it is, and what it does, it does pretty well and fills its niche as an inexpensive, talk-and-text device nicely.
does it have a distribution list??? i need a phone with distribution list
Oops forgot, it also has Blue Tooth, 8GB inbuilt memory, Xenon flash, face detection etc etc. A really great mobile.
This is a fantastic phone. For the price Nokia have managed to pack in WiFi, AGPS, 5 MP Camera, E Mail, Internet. And the battery is fantastic a solid 48 hours without recharging.
bought new one not very happy with it very poor sound and poor set up plus no bluetooth not recomended
