got my1680 classic but no volumn adjustments??
cannot hear volumn will not go up and only while on spealker can you barely hear it in totally quiet room only for people who have extra sharp hearing only i guess ,if anyway to increase volumn i would enjoy this phone otherwise i wasted my money
If you have an email address you can setup your email on the phone and then send yourself an email attaching a photograph. The phone automatically reduces the picture to 640 x 480 but it is good enough to view on the computor. I do it often
A good basic affordable fone but lack of interface for downloading images and recordings (i.e. infrared, blue tooth or cable port) downgrades it to a photo album fone.
Kenny, 12 May 2009Hi, I just got the NOkia 1680 and am having tons of trouble finding the data cable. I ordered ... moreKenny, I bought my data cable from a seller named "skyined" on eBay, sold under the auction title "Data Cable Nokia 1200 1680 Classic 2600 Classic 1861." The cable is labeled "N1200" (for the Nokia N1200 phone which also uses this cable), and "M/N: DG-U8A" (which might be the model number, although I'm not sure). A couple pages back on this forum, someone posted on April 4 that dealextreme.com sells a similar cable, so there are probably other sources. My cable came with a CD of software, and the only file I used from CD was the Driver Installer program. The other software on the CD did not work for me, and I had to download the latest version of PC Suite from europe.nokia.com/pcsuite to make it work.
With a working data cable, the Nokia 1680c is actually a fantastic phone for the money. I've even used PC Suite to install J2ME apps on mine through the data cable, and it works great. It seems to have a maximum file size limit of about 512 kB for Java apps though. Have fun!
This is not a fantastic phone if you want to do loads of stuff with it like play music, show pictures on facebook or do bluetooth because this phone doesn't have a cable connecting to the computer so u can download your pictures and music.
I really need help to connect my phone to my pc so that i can download my photos...
where can i buy the compatible usb cable for my 1680 hone

I ordered one off a website, they claimed it was the right one and it is wrong. I even looked on Nokia's own web site and could not find it. I then called Nokia and their customer service people told me there is no data cable available for this phone. Can you please tell me where you purchased your cable and also what the model number is? Thanks, my email adress is email@example.com
This is the best phone I ever have. User friendly, very handy, solid, without those billion useless options. Thanks God, somebody still makes phone like this.
There is a lot of misinformation on the web stating (incorrectly) that a PC data cable cannot be used with this phone, so I'm writing to confirm that I followed the instructions in Mitja Kukovec's April 2 message and was able to use my PC data cable to transfer files in and out of my Nokia 1680c-2b, using Nokia PC Suite version 188.8.131.52, downloaded from europe.nokia.com/pcsuite (running on Windows XP). I purchased the cable on eBay from a seller in Hong Kong for around $7 including shipping, and I installed the driver from the CD that came with it.
After driver installation and plugging the cable into a USB port, it showed up in the Windows device manager (under "Ports") as a "Prolific USB-to-Serial Comm Port (COM5)." After installing PC Suite, I closed the "Get Connected wizard," opened the PC Suite program and selected Settings, Manage Connections, double-clicked on "Serial Cable (CA-42)" and changed its setting to COM5. After a short pause, a balloon popped up from the PC Suite tray icon with the message "Nokia 1680c-2b connected via serial cable." I was then able to use the file manager in PC Suite to browse and transfer files in the phone's memory, and it worked perfectly for me. I hope this information is helpful to people who are having difficulty using a data cable.
