> In reply to Anonymous @ 2011-03-11 05:56 from ut$t - click to read I got two of this one but the problem is that the shells are aged and cannot buy new one. The Chinese after-market shell is bad. I did buy three from three different suppliers. In one occasion the problem was that the small on/off switch arm inside missing, rendering the unit unusable. The other occasions the shells simply do not fit on the unit. The telephone without gimmicks of camera etc. is more user friendly than any other (have a smart phone G3 and several in between) telephone. It is too bad that Nokia does not provide the shells any longer.

Wonderful to see all those positive comments on a phone so old. I fully agree, I'm a happy owner since 2003.
It amazes me though that Nokia hasn't build a good follow-up, which would sell great. In general only a few changes needed:
- A little thinner
- adding GPS
- adding a reasonable camera
- battery life a bit better
- buttons a bit better
That wouldn't be to much to ask 8 years later, would it?

This still the best voice quality telephone - after having about ten othres from different brand including Nokia as well - and I would use it today too but the shell got too hard and cannot use it any longer. Too bad that you cannot buy a new shell. The after-market shells are not good, some even missing the inner arm for to turn on-off the unit.

...?
*had it myself since that 2003* And it's clearly lived it's life, be it the decaying outer case, drained battery, or outdated software.

I did try two of the after-market but do not fit properly, and do not have similar rubber content either.

Most durable phone Noia ever made. Got one in 2003 and it is still used as my back up.

Nokia, please make 2009-2010 model. 5100 is a so great phone that I will never scrap it (even if I do not use the phone anymore). Please also do not forget Gps as in 3720 model.

Have the phone for about 5 years now, and it still won't break down. The only downside are the buttons, which don't work to well any more. Finally time for a new phone, but still this one I'll happily keep as my backup phone.

> In reply to User-of-names @ 2009-05-18 03:02 from A308 - click to readDo you know where in Canada I can get a new battery and new charger for this phone?
I HATE it by the way.
The NOKIA rep who sold it to me (while I was vacationing in Denmark) promised it would work anywhere in the World. I was living and working in East Asia. Well this expensive thing sat in my trunk in Japan and South Korea for 6 years. I had to buy another phone. It does not work in those countries.
I lost the charger in my travels and now 6 years after purchase, the battery is likely dead. The only time I was able to use it was for 6 months in 2005 when I was back in Canada on vacation.
There is no number pad cover on the phone, so it dialed numbers on its own in my bag as I walked around.
Now in 2009, merchants here tell me, it will cost less to buy a new phone than to get it going again. What a ripoff.

I have this phone from when it first came out, which is a long time ago, I can´t remember exactly. It still works great, with good battery life even for modern standards. What is most impressive is this phone´s durability, amazing, because my previous phones always died because of water damage/heavy usage etc. I have thrown it around several times to demonstrate it´s indestructablity to my friends, it has been to beach where many a phone find its grave due to sand, it also does not fear rain. It was pretty cutting edge for its time, it´s dated now obviously but if Nokia would launch a 2009 version of this I would totally buy it, like a bit thinner and add GPS and a small camera maybe.
