About Maps (For 5230 and 5233)
With Maps, you can see your current location on the map, browse maps of different cities and countries, search for places, plan routes from one location to another, save locations, and send them to compatible devices. You can also purchase licenses for traffic information and navigation services, if available for your country or region.
When you use Maps for the first time, you may need to select an internet access point for downloading maps.
If you browse to an area which is not covered by maps already downloaded in your device, a map for the area is automatically downloaded through the internet. Some
maps may be available in your device or on a memory card. You can also use the Nokia Map Loader PC software to download maps. To install Nokia Map Loader to a compatible PC, see www.nokia.com/maps.
Tip: To avoid data transfer costs, you can also use Maps without an internet connection, and browse the maps that are saved in your device or memory card.
Note: Downloading content such as maps, satellite images, voice files,
guides or traffic information may involve transmission of large amounts of data
(network service).
Network positioning (for 5233 and in case satellite signals not available indoor then for 5230)
Select Menu > Maps.
You can use the mobile network to find your current location, even indoors. This is
faster but less accurate than with GPS, and you cannot use the location as a starting
point for navigation. To use the mobile network for positioning, select the network-based positioning
method from the device settings. When you start the Maps application and your GPS connection is ready, GPS replaces mobile network as the positioning method.

Once user has maps already loaded on the device, there is no necessity to connect phone to network, so no data cost. (but phone should have AGPS support). Even though 5233 has no AGPS support, it can be used as GPS device using network based positioning. It can also be connected to external AGPS receiver via bluetooth to access satellite based positioning, that is assisted GPS.
I still see some peoples confused between GPS capabilities and supported standards of 5230 and 5233. I would be posting what Nokia has to say about this in detailed online user manuals.
What is all included in the box? Is there a headset, usb cable, CD or what?
absolutely rocking mobile phone with low price.... I recommend everyone to buy this mobile:-)

The problem here is that ppl often confuse network access with internet or gprs connection. I have map of india installed on my 5233 through ovi suite from my pc. Honestly, i have no problems what so ever with my network based positioning and i can work 100% offline if i am using just the maps and positioning. The only difference is accuracy. With network based positioning, the location accuracy is very low compared to a-gps and gives information of you general locality. This same data is used by 5230 as well and uses it as raw information for locking onto nearby satellites. This is known as assisted gps. As part of the job is done by the network tower itself. The phone acquires the tower's cell id to get a general information in its position. Later on the gps takes over and directly connects to the satellite for further lock on the phone's position.

Anonymous, 20 May 2010Someone wrote in this forum that "5230 has A-GPS which can directly contact satellites...... moreWho will load the maps? Internet connection is required to load the map details of location detected by satellites. In short, satellites detect the position and simultaneously phone keeps fetching the location details unless your position is stationary. This is why data connection is required. But once you allow mapping software like Ovi maps to load maps of desired location such as your city, then those details will get saved in cache memory and next time you can put Ovi in network offline mode and enjoy the GPS without connecting to network. However when you will go to new place which is not previously loaded by Ovi Maps then you shall have to connect it to data connection again to load new details. This is the way GPS work. For example I live in Pune, India and I had fetched mapping details of my city through Ovi Maps. So now on I dont need to connect my phone to network to use GPS. My phone just connect to satellites, tracks my position and I can navigate with the help of presaved details of my city. Hope you undertood.
