Be real people, looks aren't everything. Nokia didnt exactly have fashion victims in mind when they created this phone. They did their market research well and realised that people liked the old 5140. It was designed to take heavy abuse and the rubberised cover on it made it instantly recognisable and people still ask me if 02 still stock it (i work for the O2 online sales team). The only downfall of the original was a bad camera, lack of bluetooth etc. What nokia have done here is to take the pros of the 5140 and ally them with all the mod cons ie. 2mp camera, BT, IR, USB, Radio, etc etc. This phone is perfect for people who use their phone on the go, people who have very active lifestyle, people who may well take their phone out with them when training. The fact that you can use certain aspects of this phone as part of your training regime means that its going to be an instant hit with that sector of the market.
Nokia already have enough fashion phones to be doing with so they are aiming to provide a phone for people who aren't so superficial that they would take anything as long as it looks good. (ie. all those people that STILL want a nokia 8800! - get the idea people, its more use as a paperweight!)
I only hope that O2 see sense and get this phone in as soon as it hits the market so they can reap the benefits.

Hey all people!!! did you notice something from 5140,5140i,5100,5210 that is not present in this phone? something that is very essential in a sport phone yet it is so easy for nokia to make it to this phone(but they refused to place it)... guess what? shockproof advantage!!! they also removed the integrated gps receiver.
this phone is more intended to those who "DON'T" do very rigorous sport(most kind of athletes)!!! i would definitely say this is NOT for the hikers, scuba divers etc... the target market of 5140,5140i,5210,5100 is really NOT the same with the target market of 5500. 5500 focuses on some fun(mutimedia capabilities) and some sports advantages... while all of its predecessors focused really much on OUTDOOR sports advantages and less multimedia. nevertheless 5500 is still a nice sports phone.

All nokias starting with 5 are part of their outdoor/sport range. The Yellow strip is a device to enable extra grip in difficult situations. So its not ment to look great but to be functional and tough. I also think voda have done a great Job on features and size, better than some flagship models imo
