i have the phone almoast a year now.it still works fine , the only problem i had, sometimes i get a call, or i try to call someone and i can't hear a thing.seams like there is a bug in the software.i sometimes instal java games and i cannot acces them and the phone shuts down.there is a problem when u open the phone and the watch screensaver remains stuck on the main screen.but thats easy solved by closing the clemshell and waiting for the light to close off
(about 10 sec).i encoutered a few problems at some of my clients.the volume up button was stuck inside probably from too many times pressed(i say that becouse mine works just fine), the clamshell's spring jumped from it's place making the phone imposible to open or close , and the fact that the tft platic cover scratches from the buttons and the camera lens gather dust.i hope the keyboard doesn't fall of on mine couse then i will be realy pissed.i thought of changing it but it still makes me happy and besides a few minor problems i don't have any trouble.i never bumped it and took care of the battery and it still goes 4 days with a few calls and messages.i love the design though.hope nokia can make even better phones in the future eliminating the design and software bugs.

I have been using this phone since January 2005, when I posted my first review up. Since then, I've switched out this phone once around 9/2005 (thanks to Nokia's great warranty/exchange program - I made a detailed post on this in 9/2005). Now, about a year later, a couple buttons have fallen off. I'm going to try and see what I can do to get Nokia to fix my phone/swap it out again, but I think it might be time to look into another phone. Let's see how the warranty plays out. The N92 has caught my eye, but nothing for the US seems to be set yet.

Have had this phone for over a year and could not be happier. I don't need all the bells and whistles. Battery life is great. I have it on approx. 5 hours a day and only have to recharge once a week.

This phone comes with 2.2mb built in memory only and does not support memory card expansion? sigh...such a waste...

I have had this cell phone for about 1.5 year.it's LCD cover is damaging. It's been said that when you recharge the phone, the keyboard will get hot and this will effect the cover.
then there's another thing:
It's volume will go up no longer, and i hardly can hear whose saying what :( and I've seen there's many 6170 that has this problem.
I think although it is a really cute phone.but it wasn't made for me :(

I bought my nokia 6170 about one and half year ago and I must confess that it never gave me any trouble. I am a hotelier and always found my nokia handy anywhere in the world. It depends how you use the mobile, you cannot put it in a tight jeans. My daughter has changed three mobiles in the same period I have mine. My 6170 may not be pretty but very user friendly and always there when I need help.

as i read the opinions os all the ppl who own or owned this phone i start to realise that 6170 realy has problems.i had problems with installing java games.sometimes the memory freezes and i had to delete all the gemes put in and take out the battery for a few mins.i was called a few times and i couldn't hear the caller althou they could hear me.i think nokia started to throw phones on the market without proper testing them just to cover all the needs.with problems and all it seems that ppl still enjoy nokia but with some regrets.i realy would advice nokia engineers and designers to take their time and try to make some phones that can satisfi a larger group of ppl not necesary by design but by performance and durability.something good made and thought about it.better materials ion the places that realy matter.i still can belive that nokia ppl didn't saw that the display would rest on the keypad...that was dum

hi am from romania and i sell mobiles for a living...about 8 mounts i bought this pfone for myself couse i liked it and it was the best that i could afford.the 2.4 mb of memory realy stresed me out throut the use,by now no trouble with the keypad(i only heard about this problem here actualy).but i know about the keypad scratching the display cover, and i also saw thw clients who bought the phone that had trouble with the coil from the clemshell.the phone was blocked open or closed and couldn't be moved in any way.i hope in the future nokia designers will learn to avoid at least the obvious problems.this phone with 10mb and 1mm between the dispay and keypad would be gr8

i've had the fone for about two years and by now it's run its life, the buttons apparently are glued onto a pad and now they're starting to come off one by one. the inside plastic covering the reflecting faux-chrome is starting to "speck" off. but i loved it while i had it in prime condition. i think the camera is also misaligned now it doesn't really focus as well as it use to but i prefer they kept the camera function to just getting nice focus instead of video and all that, i only used it to take pictures of peoples faces. i like how it stood out and people always commented how cool it was. similarly i don't think people actually knew it was a fone and so it never got stolen even though i've been rather careless now and then. i think it has a great touch of class and why nokia doesn't just make a slim fone with this style is beyond me. i think its calendar function worked pretty well for my purposes and SMS TXTING WAS EXCELLENT. So definitely a girls fone in the end in terms of practicality. I did wish it was smaller cuz i hated carrying it in my tight jeans.
