Is NOKIA number 1?

Ok, Nokia is number one in Europe and Australia because it's GSM, cheap and just suits the market in terms of quality and functionality.

Nokia is AN ABSOLUTE LOOSER in the CDMA/WCDMA/CDMA2000 market. Sure, it's not their specialisation, but Companies like Sharp, Toshiba, Sanyo and FOMA (Japan only) dominate the US and Asian CDMA (and slowly GSM) markets in quality, features and fuctionality. But not necessarily in quantity.

The infrastructure in Korea and Japan drives to constantly new inventions in innovative handset designs as where the GSM market can only really copy what the CDMA/3G market is producing.

After all, i-mode and WCDMA were rolled out in early 2001 in Japan and NOKIA certainly didn't parttake in it. NOKIA didn't release halfway decent + affordable models until Q2 2004.

So in terms of handsets, Asian producers will always be a few months ahead. And even in the Japanese Vodafone KK networks SONY ERICSSON is more popular than Nokia.

Clamshells...that's all I can say ;)

ok, the good points for this phone, 3G & data browsing connection will be superior to N70, its going on both wcdma & edge. Screen resolution will be far superior to N70 higher pixels in a smaller screen.

Unfortunately, very low phone internal memory. Doesn't really matter with the miniSD card slot, though if you if bluetooth a MP3 file to a s40 phone it'll come in as a file received unlike a s60 phone, its comes in as a SMS & it takes up internal phone memory so for the N70 a larger internal memory is required unlike all the other s60 phones which nokia has made with only 10mb as the biggest internal memory, of which 2mb is already taken up due to pre-installed applications.

It's very true that you will not have much to do on this phone bcoz of the s40, not many applications can be installed in this phone but with any s60 phone , application downloads are endless.

Conclusion is, if you want a good 3G phone for browsing in terms of speed & good screen resolution for browsing pleasure, BUY THIS PHONE.

For a normal 3G with possibility of many application downloads buy the N70.

Hope this will help you guys out on deciding which phone to buy, i'm going for the N70 as it wll be an upgrade from my N6680.

Lewis,
thanks for pointin out to dat S40 phones do support themes. Left dat out of my comment. Anyway, yep i agree with some opinions dat these new phones(6270, 6280 etc..) are for consumers who are juz contented wif S40..

loreto:
i agree with you.

at least nokia doesn't have phones that is discontinued before they even make it to the market. (or do they?)

i went through samsung & motorola old models, they have at least one model that is discontinued. which is a shame though looking at their specs, they look promising.

To the Webmaster of the GSMarena.com:
Why don't you mention in the specification of this phone the OS it supports (series 40)???
This way many readers would think that this phone is not a smartphone!!!

Yes Nokia are announcing so many models & so much in advance...But they did say they were goin to launch more than 40 models this year..I feel they do keep their word unlike others like Motorola, Samsung etc..Nokia does launch models at the announced time[ at the max the delay is around 2 weeks in some places]...All these recently announced models are supposed to come out in the 4th quarter, so thats a lot of time to wait..
I think the announcements are just to keep people interested in the Company's products..I cant find any other reason to announce them so soon..

have not been on for 2 days and out come another lot of phones.babyboy is spot on.that 3230 took so long i ended up with the 6630 which has been excellent, but your never garaunteed they will emerge and when.i"d rather they just announced them a fort night before as most people give up and go for some other model and by the time it comes out its passed it and better phones have emerged .the 90 &91 models are rather heavy and in the past its no fun when your txting a lot and doing other things with a big phone so this looks a better option but its not series 60 but has all the functions i need anyway ,half the time symbian software is no different in options as i bet most people dont use it any way,,its mostly travel guides and is pitifull at anything remotly useful when ive been thru the whole catalogue theres been nothing that would make your phone smart..2.5g phones are advanced now and can do most things a 3g phone can as they took so long to evolve.thats my quota and my opinion.thanx for reading

I read all of your comments here... but I'm still confused. I'm a Nokia lover here, currently using 3230. I still cannot understand what is the Symbian OS thingy you guys are saying... wat is the difference with/without the OS thing? And, how would the ring tone sound with just 24 channels instead of 64 ( N70 )? Does 6280 support Monophonic and True Tones as well? I am deciding between these models - N70, N90 & 6280. When they say "31MB shared memory", does it mean "built-in internal memory"? Pardon my ignorance. Would appreciate if someone could just enlighten me a bit... Thanks!
