Nokia 8600 Luna - user opinions and reviews

Nokia

I dunno why everyone is haggling over the lack of a memory card slot or less memory... the kinda people who would buy a Vertu or a highly priced Nokia phone with style as the top factor aren't the kinda people who would want their phones to be crammed with a lot of features which they wouldn't even use. They would rather prefer a phone that looks hot and would attract attention everytime the phone's out! ;) Most of these celebrities / style icons usually just get an expensive, showy phone for flashing on the red carpet and their PAs carry the work-horse smart phones or PDAs for them... The phone sure looks hot and the pricing makes it exclusive and that's Nokia's aim!

I find this phone to be very attractive. But of course if you are the type that is into heavy use of a phone for music etc..then this fashion phone certainly isn't for you. The battery life is not a problem with a car charger. Everyone complains about the battery life...are you really going to talk 3hrs straight in one session?? I seriously never had a problem with battery life, nokia is for business orientation and fashion. I would use this phone to call and some photo taking but thats about it, if you are seeking something more dont bash this phone. Get a phone that fits you. Great Design btw. Love it. Looking forward for the release.

To Richard: As you may have missed it in my first post, I'm not a Nokia phone fan. Personally, I just prefer SE's to nokia. (I just never really got addicted to symbian like many others, but I have used it alot and I can see why so many people like it.) However, I have large amounts of respect for any company that dominates the market so effectively, and that's nokia. They know exactly who their customers are, and they market their handsets perfectly. That's all. Sorry if all this frustrates you, but to be honest, I believe that if you were really looking to buy a phone like the luna (or a sirocco, vertu, etc.), you'd be agreeing with me.

To V: I agree with your line of thinking completely. To be honest, I'm very surprised Nokia even included a camera on this one, especially because many potential buyers for such an expensive phone work in situations where cameras are not even allowed. As for the memory, it really doesn't cost very much anymore to put in 128mb instead 20mb, and if it had been 20mb, then everyone posting here would have been REALLY outraged (know what I mean?)

To AGC:
In addition to my previous comment as a counter argument to your comment that people who use this kind of fashion phone do not use any features and nokia has saved cost by not including memory card slot. Then my suggestion to Nokia is to cut down on features such as 2 megapixel camera, music playing capabilities and reduce internal memory to 20mb as it is more than enough for storing messages and for exclusive use as a phone. It would help Nokia to cut down costs further.
Please note AGC this is not a personal assault on you. I am just having a healthy discussion with you so please don't take it personally.
Any suggestions or comments from all people in this forum is welcome.
Peace

To AGC:
I agree with your line of thinking that Nokia have not included a memory card slot in this phone as it is a phone for the people who are filthy rich who do not care about the features but just require a phone to talk and for showing off.It is meant to keep this phone as exclusive as possible as if it did have memory card slot who wouldn't buy this phone.
But also look at it from another viewpoint. In this day and age 128mb of internal memory is just not good enough. What is the use of having features such as 2 megapixel camera, music playing capabilities, A2DP (wireless headphones support) if you do not have memory to store them.
So my alternative ( Just my line of thinking Who cares? ) to balance merits and demerits of this handset would have been not include a memory card slot but the internal memory should have been at least 1 gb to store decent number of images and music.
Anyone agree with my line of thinking?

To Richard:

You're missing the point. It's not about Nokia being cheap by not including a card slot or a large amount of internal memory. It's about Nokia being smart about not including overzealous features for a market sector that overwhelmingly does not use them. Millions and millions of people will make the same cost/benefit analysis and side with you and buy a motorola razr v8 etc. and thats why you see millions and millions of them...everywhere. But as you can see from the posts here, not many are willing to pay such a high price for a handset lacking said features; and there you have exclusivity. And although it is irrational to some extent from an economic standpoint, that one factor of exclusivity is enough for the Sirocco's and Luna's to sell. Nokia knows what they're doing, and what they can get away with. That's why they're so successful. (And I'm not even a Nokia fan)

haha silly GSMarena posters for bothering with the lack of a memory card slot. the majority of people who will ACTUALLY buy this phone (not just those who would comment on it on this site) do not want to fiddle with memory cards, especially tiny little memory cards like micro-sd's and m2's. sirocco and luna customers are interested in an exclusive communication device that looks intriguing and expensive. they rarely use their phone for pictures, and certainly not for music. it seems most phone sites do not understand this demographic of phone buyers very well, as everyone always points to a lack of "all in one" features on high end fashion phones. but the group concerned with these phones just don't care, and never will. so don't get too bothered with no memory card slot; might as well save time and money by not including it, when the majority of customers will not use them.

it's what cell phone should have been. it's design and features is ashtonishing. but like all other nokia phones, this one also has minuses. the internal memory is too small for a 2mp camera phone and it's got no external memory slot, where could we save our musics? why can't nokia for once built a perfect phone. it's a shame for an almost perfect phone like this one.
