Could someone please explain why Nokia goes from a gorgeous QUADBAND LUNA to an even more SEXY 8800 ARTE but diminishes the bandwidth from quadband to triband?? Is there a logical explanation? Thanks.

Great phone. Already available in Singapore. Photos does not do this black monolith any justice.
A must own for people in the know. A must own for people that get it. A must own for the fabulous.

Like I said earlier that my colleague got it yesterday.. well, i picked up mine earlier today but just got a chance to put my SIM in it this last hour.. here's the story so far:
It comes with a dock thats much nicer than the Sirocco's, and the power cable (plus the part in the dock that goes into the phone) is like the Luna's, i.e. a flat/wide insert rather than the traditional Nokia chargers. The dock wasn't lighting up once I put it in the socket, possibly defective, ill try to check on that tomorrow.
The phone uses the same type of software as the Luna, which is a good thing, because the Sirocco's was starting to get somewhat slow. It has data transfer and receives all your contact information AND messages from your old phone- I tried it with the Luna since same software, not sure if it works with other models as well.
Big high resolution display is nice, overall build is robust and well finished- however- the keypad is like the Sirocco's unlike the Luna's comfortable keys and it wobbles slightly as you type.
It actually has video ring tones! Didn't come with a lot of regular ring tones, but they were nice ring tones- which reminds me- the speaker/ringer is only on the right side of the phone unlike the two sides on the Luna, and so I didn't like too much how the music seemed it came out louder or stronger from the right side of the phone.
The navigation pad is just like the Luna's, sturdy, which is a plus, but unlike other phones of its design, it lacks a place to put your fingers to open and so I think we pretty much will have to use the navigation pad to push and slide the phone upwards.
Not a lot of the phone is hanging in the air unsupported when open, like the Luna and unlike the Sirocco, which is good as it makes the phone sturdier over prolonged use and I expect it not to start becoming lose.
I haven't made any calls yet or checked out the software extensively, so I guess hold on and I'll be back in a day or two and tell whoever is interested more about it.. cheers..

i agree with the arguments against nokia for not having quadband which was a bad mistake. I also think that they are very incredibly stupid for not improving the battery life which wasnt exactly brilliant on the previous models.
But anyone who argues about the phone not having all the latest software or hardware features fail to understand that this phone is not aimed at people who want to use all of these hi-tech features, but for people who just simply want to make and recieve phone calls and show their phone off whilst doing so. so stop attacking the phone from that point of view!!!
I mean how many of you actually take advantage of these features? not very many unless your a nerd.

hey guys.. i jus got the phone yesterday! its amazing but to be honest kinda disappointing because to me my sirocco gold looked better than this phone.. the only thing on this phone that beats sirocco is the camera, sound quality, accelerometer, touch-for-time function and 1G of user memory.. i think i might sell this phone to someone else in a week or so..

i read on many forums and asked different cell phone providers and dealers,tri-band works just fine in canada and us. Just might have some problems roaming. But UMTS is a technology that will basically cover GSM 850

Nokia can't be that stupid to release such a phone TRIBAND instead of QUADBAND. Must be something to do woth manipulating markets around the world. I guarantee they will lose out alot here at home in the good ol' US of A. Very poor judgement.

As usual a fine looking Nokia device as they say at Nokia flagship stores. But why limit to triband when quad is more appealing and provides superior performance? For instance my circle of friends all own Luna but all 16 of us wouldn't dare try the new one because AT&T formerly Cingular will fail coverage due to lack of the 4th band. Too bad that'll be 16 less units Nokia will sell. Wise-up Nokia!!

Triband??? Why exclude the US market? Nokia please be aware that QUADBAND is what really optimizes signal performance in the US in case you didn't know. It's alot of money to pay, although it's a stunning phone and well worth it, how much more can it cost you to include the 4th band or are you just trying to manipulate the markets?

Why all the moaning about this phone? People forget to realise that mobile phones are PHONES but these days have added features to make your life easier. If you want features, go buy an iPhone or one of the Nokia N series, or a SE phone. This phone has a decent camera, both EDGE and 3G connectivity and looks good! Ok its worth a packet but it will go down in price. And the phone looks beautiful!
