switches off and on regulary. esp when tryin to open whatsapp. Email notifications have stoped apearing now

I wonder if someone can advise me? When I use earphone lead and depress the attached switch it is a very good stereo sound, but when I depress hardly anything at all? Surely I haven't got to hold switch down all the time? Would welcome any thoughts please, Lee Fairbrother.

the phone constantly switches off, i mean when you are in the middle of opening whatsapp it switch off and restart itself. why
