> In reply to Steeeeeeeeeevie16 @ 2009-11-05 07:32 from wgaCPls let the truth be told, if you've it for a year its a good phone. I've it for two years and doin well. The only phone to replace E51 is either E71 or E72 mono-sim. I dont like the dual-sim cramp. So, I hope next time you'll be commenting on E72....and I'll be there.
Nice time buddy.

I've used this phone for over a year. Wonderful Design and excellent performance. I generally like the phone. My only turnoff is the keyboard.

I have had this phone for a year and a little now and i regret buying it for 650 dollars, i say WHAT A RIP. might as well go buy something alot better. The camera is very poor. the buttons are very small and hard for my friends to use hah, and the top on/ off buttton is now broken and ripped up and pushed into the phone from being turned on and off. The Wireless is great. There is lots on the phone and i am still finding cool new stuff on it but ide much rather a beter camera and the buttons usually fall out which annoys me. But overall i am pretty happy i would just rather the newer one. Nokia 900! woo haha

> In reply to Anonymous @ 2009-11-04 08:48 from fw7EYou see the person who's calling and if you want them to see you, just simply turn the phone to your face or stay in front of a mirror.

I personally don't mind it the way it is, I rather to see than be seen. I don't even have a webcam for my PC (smile).

> In reply to Docjac @ 2009-11-03 19:17 from t@x@You can buy the battery on either Amazon or Ebay..

@others-->Many complained about the camera. But I find it working great. Well, for a small phone with so many applications and functions available, one could not ask for more.

Got my e51 about 2 years back for 12k odd bucks (inr). Sticking onto it cos i feel its the best in biz. Was wondering that nokia s stopped its line. But fascinated to see a bro putting up a post last week that he s bought it for 9500 bucks. Great bro. I do not know abt gps transceiver in my mobile but i know that google maps works wonders with it. I work at newdelhi and explored it with that cute 1 MB application available at google site. you might try that out.
Heard from NOKIA people here that its gone out of production. LOL and there comes this post. Actually i need to replace its battery BP-6MT as am running out of juice (Standby of 1.5-2 days in 2g and 1 day in 3g)

If anyone can lead me to a fresh replacement battery i would be grateful.
Thanks in advance for your reply.

> In reply to Kako @ 2009-11-01 14:51 from fuDqTo KAKO:

Nokia has created a very simply way to update your firmware but there are still risks involved. The biggest risk is the phone being unusable...meaning your phone becomes a dead phone, completely dead not being able to power on...which so far has never happened to my phone, thank God.

Updating the phone can also be referred to:

1. Updating the phone's software.
2. Updating the phone's firmware.
3. Updating the phone's OS (Operating System).
4. FLASHING.

So when you see these terms being mentioned anywhere on the internet or otherwise, you should easily know they are in reference to the same thing.

Now to get to the matter at hand:

If you don't have Nokia PC Suite for your computer then head over to http://europe.nokia.com/get-su...for-your-pc#

Right after doing that, before you even install the PC Suite head over to http://europe.nokia.com/get-su...ware-update# and get the Nokia Software Updater (popularly called NSU).

Once you finish downloading both softwares install the PC Suite then the Nokia Software Updater.

After you install both, run PC Suite and backup your phone using the first option, CONTENT COPIER. It even allows you to backup your memory card as well...personally I bypass this option and just backup the phone memory as backing up the memory card in addition to the phone memory can take a very long time, especially if you have a big memory card and it's filled with stuff.

In addition to backing up your phone using PC Suite, as you did previously, back up your phone using the MEMORY CARD backup utility from the E51's menu - MENU - TOOLS - MEMORY CARD - OPTIONS - BACKUP PHONE MEMORY. Before updating my E51's firmware I usually back up using both sources, PC Suite and Memory Card backup feature built in the phone. You can never have too many backups.

Once you finish backing up click the last option button in PC Suite which says 'Update Phone Software'. Alternatively you can run NSU from the Start Menu without even running PC Suite and update the phone without even having PC Suite open. But running PC Suite first will remind you to backup your phone as that's the first option in PC Suite so stick to the PC Suite method first then NSU after...whether you want to simply start NSU from the last option in PC Suite or run it manually from the Start Menu, the choice is yours.

Once NSU starts up it will scan for your phone by reading what is known as the PRODUCT CODE. You can find the Product Code on the label beneath your battery. The Product Code determines the region the phone was made for which, when flashed, puts the right language pack in the phone eg. English, Spanish, Hebrew etc. or English, French, Chinese. You can check to see which languages your phone support before you even upgrade the firmware by using your E51's MENU and going to TOOLS, SETTINGS, GENERAL, PERSONALISATION, LANGUAGE.

Tell you what, take out the battery and jot down the Product Code...it will start will '055'...7 digits in all. I will tell you the reason for this later on.

Back to NSU...once NSU detects your phone it will show you an image of it and also show you the current firmware in your phone and show you the available one for download. If the numbers are the same then there are no updates for your region. The Product Code determines the available updates. If you see a higher firmware number then by all means go ahead and upgrade. The process should take 5 - 8 mins.

BE WARNED THOUGH that your phone is at risk.

1. ENSURE your battery is fully charged because if the phone runs out of power while the update process begins, your phone can DIE!!!

2. ENSURE the USB cable is properly plugged in to both the phone and PC as if the cable is removed from either the phone or PC during the process, the phone can DIE!!!

3. ENSURE the PC doesn't lose power during the process as the phone, once again can DIE!!!. If your area have frequent power outages then it's best to use a UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) with your PC.

4. If your PC freezes, crashes, hangs up or restart out of the blue your phone can DIE!!!

I can't think of anymore precautions.

Finally, the reason why I told you to make a note of your Product Code is to make it easier for you. If you have the product code at hand, you don't need to connect your phone to the PC to find out if there are any newer updates. Simply go to http://europe.nokia.com/get-su...can-i-update and type your Product Code in the field. This way you can check to see if there are any newer firmware for your phone WITHOUT even having your phone with you...and the best part you can check from any computer whether at home or on the road. You will of course have to mesmerise your Product Code or write it in the NOTES application in your phone.

Well that's it my friend. Please get back to me and let me know how it all went.

As always feel free to ask me anything.

Take care until we speak again.

> In reply to Razlan @ 2009-10-27 00:29 from psDgI have had this phone for 2 years now...
Major advantages are the number of features in it, wifi bluetooth etc..Its size for the feature is amazing as well...
The main 2 cons that i can think of are the battery life, and the finish...Its nice and glossy metal which means its a fingerprint magnet.
