well I updated to the 400.34.011 from 100.34.20 and I lost everything, lol.

on the good side of the things, I did backup before that of everything but the memory card, so I restored first 5 things from the comp back to the phone(user data, contacts, messages, calendar, ...) but I left the "settings" option not to restore, as somebody said it would mess up the new OS, which make sense though.

so I'm having my contacts again .. or I was gonna be really pissed, but back to the point.

It looks like no apps were restored, duhh. So now I have to go and install them again. Point is, I dont remember what was on the phone before in its stock form. Could anybody help ?

I know it was having google maps, Visto mobile or something like that for email, then something else, then I had my custom apps - the france 24 news, Qik video, and some internet browser

what apps do you all install after the update ?

later

> In reply to Anonymous @ 2009-11-19 14:16 from wfxZEither you got an imitation model or you are another brand fan giving trouble. This phone is as reliable as any other Nokia I ever had.

> In reply to Jimmy19823 @ 2009-11-19 09:50 from N9KhYou have 4 options.

...and all this can be done without you needing to see the display clearly...

THE FIRST THREE METHODS ARE TO BE DONE IN STANDBY MODE. THE PART WHICH SHOWS THE TIME AND ACTIVE STANDBY.

1. Do a regular reset by keying in *#7780#. This will do a soft reset. The phone will return to it's original factory settings but you won't lose anything.

2. Do a soft format by keying in *#7370#. The phone will return to it's original factory settings but you WILL lose everything CONTACTS, NOTES, CALENDER ENTRIES, VOIP SETTINGS etc.

3. Do a hard format by turning off the phone, press and hold green dial key + number 3 on keypad + asterik key (*) and finally the power button. You need to hold down ALL 4 keys simultaneously (POWER, DIAL KEY, 3 and *). While the phone powers on WITH YOU HOLDING DOWN ALL KEYS keep holding the keys until you are prompted to enter your country.

4. Connect your E51 to your PC and using Nokia PC Suite click on the UPGRADE SOFTWARE icon. This will guide you on upgrading your phone's operating system known as firmware.

Please get back to me and let me know the outcome. Good luck.

Piece of bollocks.
Most unreliable nokia phone ever purchased.
Can not even withstand the light beating of regular work without it's screen /crying and cutting it's wrist.

I bought My Nokia E51 fone while i was in India january 09 and used it for about 8 months, and when i came back to my country Tanzania..after having used it for about 2 months here ,it is having problems with the DISPLAY.The screen is now full of different colours in such a way that i cant see incoming calls and i cant use my phone for calling since i cant see the different applications on the menu of the phone.Everything in my fome works fine,i can receive incoming calls without seeing the numbers or names of calers.the first day the problem started i thought it was due to the hot weather in my area.the next day it was ok..after 2 days again the problem staterted till now the screen is full of different colours and i cant and i cant access and use my fone through the display screen. In case of incoming sms,i have to connect the fone to my laptop to read the message.Wat can be done to solve this problem of colors on my E51 display?

i had this phone more than year, i satisfied with this phone, but i started to worry then i put more videos on this phone, i needed biger memory card, its pitty, that it can accept only up to 4gb,the phone itself quite powerful, but?, but?,browsing on internet ok, asorbs, lots of internet junk, difficult to erase from c-memory,software update only covers it but not totaly removes internet junk, phone very affraid humidity, sometimes does not work, below navigating button is x-button for erasing or deleting, whatever it is not in the right place for me, should be putted on the corner(designers not thought about it) screen is only 2 inch,-pitty, camera 2mp-for me enough.i dont need games on the phone, have to be choise to download them free of will.they take some memory of pnone memory

Hi everyone........
I have noticed so many Nokia users complain about the performance of their phone, especially after an upgrade!

Well I hope I can help some of you out there?

I have owned Nokia phones for the last 10yrs from the 5110i to the present E51 and to tell you the truth I have never really had any major problems except a screen had to be replaced on my old 6510 after I had dropped it.

But I am hearing many users complaining on phone freezing (especially when answering calls) internet connection settings lost or Wifi not be usable again.

But after some research I have found one of the main reasons for these problems, it could be because you have restored all of your old phone settings after an upgrade and that has conflicted with your phone software.
I found that most users who have problem with phone freezing is due to some applications left on or may not be properly compatiable with the new (400.34.011 firmware) upgrade.

I just did the latest 400 upgrade and I tested my phone in every way you can from internet, Wifi to answering calls from all around and I am yet to find a problem with my phone.

I gaurante you that mnost of your phone problems are caused by your old software settings being restored to your phone, try cleaning out your phone and only restore your contacts only!

Nokia is not a perfect phone but at the same time its not the worst phone either.

JUST REMEMBER THAT 10% OF NOKIA PHONES ARE TEST PHONES WHICH ARE PHONES THAT WERE USED FOR TESTING IN ORDER TO FIND FAULTS. IF YOU BOUGHT YOUR PHONE FROM ANOTHER PLACE OTHER THAN A GENIUNE NOKIA OUTLET THEN CHANCES ARE YOUR MOBILE COULD BE A TEST PHONE AND YOU SHOULD OF GOT IT FOR LESS THAN HALF THE PRICE (IF THEY WERE HONEST)

It's been 3 hours since I updated my firmware to the latest one. One thing which changed for worst is the heating. Now the mobile is getting heated much more than before..I can't even hold it. BEcause the steel back cover is really hot..o.O
