The only unusual thing that happened did so yesterday when I was in standby mode, clicked on menu and a half a bar appeared at the top as if it was trying to go to menu but it froze...showing the standby stuff all the way. A simple restart fixed it and it hasn't happened again so far.
That was more like a graphical glitch, something I have seen happen in Windows PCs.
WINURA, I guess that number in bracket makes a difference.
Before I upgraded my firmware the number in bracket was 12.1 now it's just 12 flat.
I must say yesterday I received a call and the Nokia Tune was loud, frightened me somewhat too. Guess the new firmware does make a difference.
Winura, 16 Aug 2008mate, what exactly is your firmware version? this camera issue is starting to freak me out...200.34.36

Olivier, 16 Aug 2008Ok, thanx 4 telling me, man. So u r saying that you lose money, depending on how much emails u get??let me put it this way. take some normal application like eBuddy. when you use it to chat, your mobile operator charges you according to the amount of data that has been transmitted for the session you've been online. it is the same song and dance with email clients like MAIL FOR EXCHANGE.
you don't get charged for the number of email you send and receive but according to the size of the emails you're sending and receiving. larger the size of your email (with a lot of attachments and all) the more your service provider charge you.
This is the best phone ever.
The main thing I like the most is the graphics user interface(GUI). I like the html viewieng on the wireless internet.
The wireless internet is faster than my desk pc that is connected via the unshielded twisted pair (UTP) cable. I'm currently busy with it writing this
Hope you like it. TeenSA

Yesterday I updated the software of my E51 and am totaly disappointed because now I have a lot of troubls .alot of hanging in simple operations,my imap gmaild does nt work any more, some java apps dont work any more, camera sound is still there...etc. I reformated the phone and the memorycard but its still the same. Shame on you nokia ,people release updates for their products to fix the bugs not for creating bugs. And the problim is the phone does nt accept downgrading the software even if I used tornado or other boxes

hi, i know this question has been addressed before, but i'd like some more opinions.
I want a phone whose technology can last (not be outdated) for at least 3 or 4 years, and has good connectivity on networks and for internet. Music on a phone does not matter, and i am not a business person.
Right now i'm torn between e51 and n82. should i splurge on the n82 for more "fun" (will cost 200 dollars more), or go for e51 which has better connection speeds and a comfortable keypad for texting?
the camera is only somewhat important, as in if i'm taking a quick snapshot with my friends it has to be clear!
thanks in advance
To WINURA:
I am using the E51 at work today.
I tested to see if I would hear the camera sounds in SILENT mode. I don't hear a thing...just as I didn't hear any sounds before I updated my firmware.
I guess I'm one of the lucky ones as the old SE K700 didn't allow camera sounds to be disabled even in silent mode. Everybody on the internet complained about this problem.
I'm pleasantly pleased with my E51.
VOIP / SIP clients take the cake and are good even to put the E51 on anybody's priority list.

Zakir, 15 Aug 2008Hey can anyone tell me how i can transfer my Sony Erissson w810i phonebook to my new nokia e51. send your contacts via bluetooth to the E51 as business cards and save them.
Rajesh, 15 Aug 2008Thanks Winura.
I was about the buy Nokia E51 and was confused at the last minute saying the... moreyou're welcome mate. :-)
well if its email happens to be your main concern the Nokia E series is the best. well in the N series, since they are also smart phones it should support email applications as well. the N81 and the N82 has the best audio quality. even better than the N95. (i have managed to test all 3 ACCIDENTLY)
This is what the GSMArena's review say about the Nokia N81's email capabilities.
"The email client won't surprise anyone who has ever used a Symbian powered phone. It can download headers only, as well as the whole messages. There is also support for attachments, so Nokia N81 can meet almost any requirement regarding the user emailing needs."
but i think the N81 is a bit over priced.
karlito, 15 Aug 2008Winura. did you check whats up with that strange background sound of E51? Your comment will be... moreyes i did check with a few people. and it turns out to be nothing serious and its nothing we should worry about. its something to do with the lighting system of the phone. try setting your display brightness to its highest level and check whether you still get that noise. with mine i don't.
karlito, 15 Aug 2008Winura. did you check whats up with that strange background sound of E51? Your comment will be... moreyes i did ask a few people who are using the nokia E51. well some said they have that noise and some don't. as my friend from India mentioned in one of his posts regarding this issue, it really is something to do with the lighting system of your phone. because after he told me to set the display brightness to maximum you don't get that sound. well with mine i don't.
anyhow i happen to know a person who works at our local nokia care center and that person told that its nothing we should worry about.
set your display brightness to its highest level and see whether you still get the noise.
Winura, 14 Aug 2008Are you a Mail For Exchange user? Thanks for replying Winura. No, I am not a Mail for Exchange user. I have configured my E51 mailbox facility for use with my Gmail account. Everything works fine except that I am unable to delete received e-mails from the phone!I have done what the booklet says and have tried every other possiblity without success. The messages simply stay in my inbox.
Hey can anyone tell me how i can transfer my Sony Erissson w810i phonebook to my new nokia e51.
