Hi mates,
Anyone can tell me how to perform a firmware upgrade? My current firmware is 200.04.36...and should I do it or not? Thanks...

Hi everyone........
I have noticed so many Nokia users complain about the performance of their phone, especially after an upgrade!

Well I hope I can help some of you out there?

I have owned Nokia phones for the last 10yrs from the 5110i to the present E51 and to tell you the truth I have never really had any major problems except a screen had to be replaced on my old 6510 after I had dropped it.

But I am hearing many users complaining on phone freezing (especially when answering calls) internet connection settings lost or Wifi not be usable again.

But after some research I have found one of the main reasons for these problems, it could be because you have restored all of your old phone settings after an upgrade and that has conflicted with your phone software.
I found that most users who have problem with phone freezing is due to some applications left on or may not be properly compatiable with the new (400.34.011 firmware) upgrade.

I just did the latest 400 upgrade and I tested my phone in every way you can from internet, Wifi to answering calls from all around and I am yet to find a problem with my phone.

I gaurante you that mnost of your phone problems are caused by your old software settings being restored to your phone, try cleaning out your phone and only restore your contacts only!

Nokia is not a perfect phone but at the same time its not the worst phone either.

JUST REMEMBER THAT 10% OF NOKIA PHONES ARE TEST PHONES WHICH ARE PHONES THAT WERE USED FOR TESTING IN ORDER TO FIND FAULTS. IF YOU BOUGHT YOUR PHONE FROM ANOTHER PLACE OTHER THAN A GENIUNE NOKIA OUTLET THEN CHANCES ARE YOUR MOBILE COULD BE A TEST PHONE AND YOU SHOULD OF GOT IT FOR LESS THAN HALF THE PRICE (IF THEY WERE HONEST)

It's been 3 hours since I updated my firmware to the latest one. One thing which changed for worst is the heating. Now the mobile is getting heated much more than before..I can't even hold it. BEcause the steel back cover is really hot..o.O

Hello again
This is to address all those who are having problems with their new 400.34.011 firmware.

There is a way to fix 99.9% of all the bugs that people are complaining about.

After you have upgraded your new firmware do not restore anything from the phone memory,or the old settings may appose the new causing the phone to have bugs, you can only restore contacts, calender and messages.
As for your memory card you can restore the back up data/files from your PC Suite to your mobile but after you have restored it do not restore your memory card to your mobile or again you may appose the new settings.

2-After doing this the rest of your settings=email, internet, Wifi etc has to be done manualy.

3. Once you have fixed your settings then back up your phone on your phones memory card, then back it up on your PC Suite and all should go well.

The main reason why so many people are having firmware problems is because they have restored the old settings and thats were the old and the new collide causing bugs.

I hope this answered your problem.

Hi
to all those wondering wether they should upgrade to the latest Firmware Version 400.34.011.
Well I did it yesterday. My old Ver was 100.34.20.

I have read the firmware review but you cant beleive everything you read so I decided to upgrade to see it for my self.
Since I have had this new version all I can say is that my phone runs alot faster, especially the menu key when pressed its almost double the speed as before.
Also some of my sofware runs alot smoother.
So the bottom line is that this new firmware is just a bit faster and more stable than the old one. If you notice any other improvments please let me know.

By the way if you have any bugs after installing this firmware then just reformatt your phone memory and only restore your contacts only, the rest you will have to do manually.
God bless you all.

The default security code is 12345. If that doesn't work that means it was changed.

I tried Opera 10 the very same day GSMArena reported it in the news. It worked flawlessly for me.

The only thing I can tell you to do right now is to uninstall it, turn the phone off, turn it back on re-install it again and see if it works fine now. If it still doesn't work fine try installing it to the PHONE MEMORY and see if it works fine. If it works fine then that means something is wrong with your memory card...if it doesn't work then you should consider upgrading your firmware IF you don't already have the latest.

In the case that it works on the phone memory as it is, connect your phone to a PC and transfer everything from the memory card to your PC (leave all the files on the PC until Opera starts working, you will see why later on) then format your memory card USING the phone's format utility. You can also use the PC to format the memory card but you will get better results when you use the phone and a little more capacity when using the phone's format feature. Once the memory card is formatted try reinstalling Opera right away (before you even transfer back your files to the memory card).

If it doesn't work then more than likely your memory card have bad sectors. Use your PC to fix them by right clicking the Mass Storage Drive from MY COMPUTER and then click PROPERTIES - TOOLS then under ERROR CHECKING click on CHECK NOW and select both boxes.

If it works fine right after the format then uninstall Opera from the phone memory, transfer your files from the PC back to the memory card then reinstall Opera again and see if it works. If it doesn't work then there's a conflict with some of the system files which you previously backed up to the PC. In that case uninstall all the programs from your memory card, format it once again using the E51's format and then send ONLY your personal files from your PC back to the memory card...videos, photos, music etc. In doing this the system folders will be new once again (eg. PRIVATE folder etc.).

Once again reinstall back Opera 10 to the memory card again and see what happens now that it's installed to fresh system folders.

Please let me know the outcome.

> In reply to Steeeeeeeeeevie16 @ 2009-11-05 07:32 from wgaCPls let the truth be told, if you've it for a year its a good phone. I've it for two years and doin well. The only phone to replace E51 is either E71 or E72 mono-sim. I dont like the dual-sim cramp. So, I hope next time you'll be commenting on E72....and I'll be there.
Nice time buddy.
