I have pre booked the Nokia E 72 from the Nokia Concept Store in Bangalore, India. The price is 20,999 INR> However, I have made a deal with the store people that I can decide to pick up E 71 if I am not satisfied with E 72 after checking it out. Heard lot of shit of E 72 from others!! But still keeping my fingers crossed for E 72!! No doubt E 71 is a masterpiece!! If not E 72, E 71!!
Rajesh, 29 Nov 2009Bravo David, very right comments. I agree every word of what you have picturised about E72.
... moreLogic is simple.
If you already have E63 or E71, you are not going to get an "UPGRADE" worth the spend.

I would like to add and would remind to all reviewers and readers here what I said about 4 days ago : Nokia has made E72 a exact replica of E63. Hold E63 and E72. They look exactly exactly exactly the same. You can say they are twins with one being rich and another poor. E72 is rich because it has a metal touch to it, whereas E63 looks poor with plastic finish.
Please check them yourselves and decession will be instant if E72 make is even near what E71 is. But again E72 will ultimately win with its built in features and new software. Cheers.
I finally checked out the E72 at a store today (in India). Basically the conclusion is this: E72 is an awesome phone for those who do NOT currently own an E71. It looks great, is fast and has amazing features.
But here's the thing with E71 owners: these guys obviously fished out a lot of cash to buy their phone within the last 18 months, and most probably bought it only within the last year. It's pretty obvious that an UPGRADE needs to be significantly better to make them pay again for such a phone...not sure the price where most of you guys are, but here in India it's almost Rs 23,000.
Those who compare the phone to the E71 will immediately mention the look of the phone. It's funny how practically all the reviews say the same thing.."Nokia have kept the looks the same...E72 has the same appearance as its predesessor...blah blah blah". YEAH RIGHT! Honestly, I read the comments here and thought there can't be much of a difference. Then I went to the store today and held both phones side by side. The difference is amazing. The quality of material used in the E71 is way more impressive. Look at the part right under the keypad and the backside of both phones..the E71 looks much more metallic and shiny. I'm guessing Nokia had to settle for cheaper material similar to what was used in E63; if they used the E71 material for the E72, the price would've been even more!
Anyway, what I'm trying to say is this: for the non-E71 owners, please don't be influenced by negative comments here! Most people who post here own the E71 and are dissapointed with the E72 (and with good reason). If you don't currently own an E-series device or even a smartphone, the E72 is an excellent choice. Buy the E72 instead of E71, because as far as specs go, the E72 is miles ahead. I would recommend waiting for maybe a month or so and then buy the E72. That way, any bugs/problems would get sorted out by then.
For the record, I currently have a 6233 which I've been using for almost 4 years now. I was thinking of getting an iPhone, but in India we really can't make use of all the iPhone features/apps so I scrapped that idea. Just got an iPod touch 64 GB and am planning on buying the E72 sometime in Jan. Can't wait!
Aargh!
There is no option to delete e-mail only from phone (Like in E63/E71)
It deletes from the server also.
Hi, anyone succeeded to use Nokia Sportstracker on e72? I read somewhere that it´s not available yet for e72, is this true? Is it possible to use the e71 version instead?
Anonymous, 29 Nov 2009hey rajesh,
thanks for pointing out the differences between E71 and E72. after going throug... moreHi, I will lay out advantages of both models
1) E71 has a auto focus camera but good for taking pics of documents ( not family pics ). Bold 9000 lacks auto focus.
2) E71 has a better battery life
3) E71 is much slimmer than Bold 9000 and boasts a sturdy & rigid firm grip. Feels great.
4) You have 4 colours to choose from. Bold 9000 had only Black till this month white colour has been added.
a) Bold has a better screen resolution which makes Web browsing, emailing and document viewing a boon.
b) The presence of optical trackpad has made lot of tasks easier like scrolling through web page or files or contacts etc.
c) Presence of 3.5mm headphone jack and media player which fully support divx makes watching movies a remarkable experience while you have a break or while travelling.
Decession is solely yours. Have a good time.
Well, I am a business mobile power-user travelling around the globe and rely on connectivity 24/7. I have used E71 for 8 months and I think it is seriously flawed as a business device(email set up is too messy, each new country has to be configured via the hard to grasp 'access points' (why?), keyboard is way too cramped to use properly (leads to widespread miss spelling), camera is shockingly poor, menu structures are illogical and easy to get lost, needed a track-ball (pearl) from day1). So, on this basis th E72 is likely to be more of the same messy software and compromised features.
The only option for international mobile business is Blackberry. Period.
hey rajesh,
thanks for pointing out the differences between E71 and E72. after going through your and others reviews, i think it is better to wait for a stable E72 for some time. But, i need to get a business phone now. thinking of E71 or BB bold. what is your suggestion. i will consider E72, maybe after sometime.
Hi... Does anybody know when will E72 be available in Egypt or Dubai...? Any what is the expected price?
Thanks:)
I only wish Nokia E-series will sync with Google Calendar.
hmm.. izzit e72 keypad light abit loose?

Thank you for your review. I think it is overly enthusiastic but it is very nice to read nevertheless... I am a business user and not much of the mobiles enthusiast but still I'm a heavy user. I'm using E72 for a week now. I've got it to replace my E71. Unfortunately, I have to agree with Rajesh - there are real problems with this phone. The backlight leakage is awful! Even E63 has better mounted keys for goodness sake! But that's not the only grudge I have against E72. I thought it would be an UPgrade of E71. For me "UPgrade" means that you get everything from the predecesor plus some more or better. Not in case of E72... For bussines user like myself what I get in terms of information is as important as what (and how) I can send out. But the new software of E72 does not include internet radio or podcasting. One can not get it from Nokia. And I didn't find any reliable offers from third party vendors. So with Nokia E72 I not only can not enhance my phone-related life style but I have to cut down on some activities! This is not acceptable for me. And I dont care if menu icons are nicer or not. It's supposed to be a business tool so it should be about usability not gimmicks...
I could go on about why I'm not going to replace my E71 with E72, but just let me assure you that my E72 is going back to the store. With a note to Nokia "MUST DO BETTER!"
Friends, all companies have went through the recession curse. Some some of them have lost heavily and became history and many of them have fought through it and trying to gather thei will and come back with flying colours.
Nokia launhed E71 before recession began. Nokia71 a messenger of steel. It became super hit immediately. But soon in 3 months recession was getting worse and Nokia starte loosing its sales as middle class kept away from high end E1 and most of the upper class was being diverted to Bold 9000.
But Nokia was ready with cheaper plastic messenger E63. E63 was well accepted by middle class and also became a good seller.
RIM did not stop posing challenges, it came up with 8520 which is priced around USD 240 to USD 265. Bold 9700 was under production.
Nokia took leap with E72. It is meant to merge both upper class and middle class buyers and the actual price it will fetch in near future should be around USD 350. With lots of features thrown into it, Nokia will make this handset within reach of most of the middle class buyers and also will target corporates who have been inclined towards Blackberry solution for their executives.
We can expect E72 at price of around USD 350 about end Jan or mid Feb 2010.
any news on the new E90 communicator...i really loved this eseries....any new model coming up
Anonymous, 29 Nov 2009i don't think GSMArena's review says it looks plasticky. The below is the snippet from GSM's r... moreHi, By saying cure - metal, what infact meant a thin rim of metal around the front of E72, brushed metal home & action keys and a back metal battery cover.
I have mentioned in my earlier review, I will repeat again 1) Hold both E71 and E72 in your hands. The sides left and right (where you will find volume keys and memory card/usb slots)you will see E71 if whole lot of metal and E72 is whole lot of plastic. I am also confused if the power key and volume keys are metal or chrome plated material. 2) The backlight leakage from its left and right soft keys makes E72 loose its charm and make it feel very ordinary. I guess its a finish problem and I am sure the 2nd or 3rd batch of manufactured handsets, you wont find backlight leak.
Friends, after going through certain updates in Hardware as well as software department, I am very sure E72 will be a best seller for long time to come.
Right now E71 is most reliable and a good mobile companion to keep.
How is the music output through the inbuilt speaker..?
Rajesh, 29 Nov 2009My dear street smart, do you have to be a millionaire to buy E72, you have learnt to read and ... moreThats true Rajesh, i bought it for $520. After 2 weeks in Batam its priced about $445! A week before i bought it priced $583! But i have feeling that its price going up again coz it will the next best seller smartphone in Indonesia. So i just buy it ;) I can no longer wait for its price going up or down. I have a real satisfaction having a latest piece of art from Nokia in my hand, before everybody else in the world :p
Is the radiation level at 1.31 W/Kg too high and really unhealthy? (http://sar.nokia.com/sar/index.jsp)
The last I checked online, a SAR level higher than 1.6 W/kg makes a phone unsafe... or was it 2.0 W/Kg? Please clarify.
I wish the newer phones had better SAR levels.
