This is a copy-paste comment from TR that was quite interesting and I thought someone here might appreciate it...silvercat13 said:
"I think that in this review there were more efforts in trying to provide correct information if compared to the hands on review. Thank you for this.
Actually you bring as weak points of the phone the following:
1) Nokia UI
2) Internet experience poor
3) Social networks integration lame
Point 2) and 3) may be worked-around by using Opera and Gravity, but still in 13 pages review you decided not even to mention those programs while discussing about it in the comments here...
Whether to mention or not 3rd party app is debatable of course, but, frankly speaking, in case you have some time, why not? If they can solve 2 out of the 3 problems you have higlighted in the review why you cannot mention this?
My guess: maybe you in Techradar decide only to review the phone as-it-is without efforts of tweaking the phone to improve the user experience... Indeed, it's also time-consuming to find a workaround and test it... Let's see whether this is consistent with the reviews of the phones that you have rated with higher marks:
Q.1) Reading about iPhone 4 you mention a very severe problem in the reception. This is a show-stopper for a lot of user.. Have you tried to work around it?
A.1) Yes, you put a bumper on it, spoling the nice phone design and commenting that the phone is now receiveing well. IMHO this is a terrible solution, but it's nice from you to have tried it out for those Apple lovers that would buy the phone even with this (additional) big limitation.
Q.2) Reading about the HTC Desire, the battery life is judged as decent but "it can drop a little alarmingly fast at times". This is a potential show-stopper... Have you tried to work around it?
A.2) Yes, you tried quite hard.. You suggested to " stop updating Peep, Friendstream and emails all day long" and even "set to '2G networks only'"; why not? you also suggested to make a tour in the App Market to download the Advanced Task Killer for killing here and there some over-consuming applications
IMHO this solution a bit extreme, it is definetely compromising the use of the phone, but it's really nice from you to help the users to have a better phone experience and not buying another phone because of this issue.
There is no phone which is perfect and it is up to the user to tune/tweak it to their needs. If you buy a phone, as soon as you see an issue in it, you will immediately try to find a way to solve it.. It's quite natural
I guess that you don't like the Nokia UI and you do not have intention to install Opera or Gravity (or other equivalent) in order to try to see whether the problems you found can be solved/mitigated.
Your approach (TR, I mean) is different when reviewing an Apple phone and a Google phones, so you can try to provide fair information to the user, but your reviews will be inevitably biased... At least till now... I hope you don't find this remark offensive and you will just evaluate it as a possible area of improvement in the future. Thanks"

snonre, 17 Oct 2010The n8 wasnt meant to compete with the iphone4 (but the n8 might beat the iphone 3gs) and the ... morefor me the n8 beats the iphone4 and the n900 not because its got better os because iphones beats n8 all the way from all the demos i have seen but each smart phone has got its own audience and for me the n8 is the best multimedia smart phone on the market, i am not calling the iphone or n900 like i said for me the n8 is better

Gitty, 17 Oct 2010I ve decided to buy finland made N8, itz hard to find it in India ! But trying hard ! I can pa... moreAll countries in Asia/US/Aust will get N8 that's manufactured in China except part of Western-Asia
Part of Middle East will get N8 that's manufactured in Finland because of the short shipping distance
if you're in india would you pay the extra shipping costs just to get "Finland" word?
it's Nokia product afterall same hardware same quality EVERYTHING IS SAME
[deleted post]The n8 wasnt meant to compete with the iphone4 (but the n8 might beat the iphone 3gs) and the galaxy s (even nokia says that the n8 is not measnt to be compared to the iphone 4 and galaxy s). the n8 is a considered as a higher middle-class phone, not a high end phone. HOWEVER, the nokia n900 can be compared to the iphone4 and galaxy s.
Amazing interface and OS and music is too good on the earphones the phone is worth every buck spent !
Confirm with me please
does official skype app work in nokia n8?
Does nokia internet radio work in nokia n8?
i love my n8 because it is not a fruit or berry phone.
it even coms with a innbuilt tiny secretary that tell me
were to go and how to get there and also tells the names of
the caller and reads my mesages by loudspeker to me.
i dont think there is a limit to what this phone can do i give it a 9 out of 10 points.i have had it for two weeks now.
For anyone that's getting the n8, make sure you push the headphone jack in really, really hard until you hear it snap. Thought my headphones were broken...LOL. Ahh, that's better. :O)
Oh come on guys, this phone has only been in the market for less than 1 month and your bashing it like it has been in the market since the past 2 years. Give nokia a chance to provide updates and apps for users, let them improve on the next batch of n8. Dont just jump to a conclusion just because of some problems.
people get crazy about these gadgets and when its in their hands they complaint tat i hate it its slow laggy hardware issues and so on. come on guys its just a phone.
another overhyped product from nokia like the n97...
better luck next time nokia...but keep trying on...
hayato, 17 Oct 2010I'm sorry to hear about that dwane. I suggest you return that immediately, if the same thing e... morehayato - were you talking to me...the one with the n8 problem? I did try another pair of earphones and they work fine. The ovi suite was causing the n8 mess up. It would keep saying that it's synching and would take a long time..then I eventually would disconenct it and all my songs would be there.
I'm so disappointed.... :o(
I'm worried that if I get an exchange and have a problem, I won't be able to get a refund. I think I will just get a full refund...but I want the n8 so bad. I really like it.
I ve decided to buy finland made N8, itz hard to find it in India ! But trying hard ! I can pay more for finland made !
