debra, 11 Sep 2012hey, are you guys happy with the speed? 701 is faster than n8 according to specs but is the 70... moreHi, my wife has a 701. It runs great!. Is it better than the N8?, well it depends on what you want to do with it.
Gaming experience with the 701 is not better than the n8. In heavy graphics game 701 has poorer performance than the N8. The GPU on board the N8 is superior.
N8 has HDMI, 701 has only VGA TV Out.
The camera on the 701 is as good as any samsung or iphone. Having said that... well the N8 camera is just stunning. No comparison with any phone except the 808 or maybe the 920. The flash on the N8 is great, taking excelent night pictures against the tipical blurry that any other phone (including the 701) takes. The video on the N8 is better than compact cameras, and the video on the 701 is just average for a camera phone.
Finally N8 has 16Gb mass memory against 8Gb onboard the 701. If you like to carry a lot of music and pictures (like I do), 16gb mean something. Of course both phones can use micro sd, but you always would have 8 more gb with the n8.
So, in what is better the 701 with it's 1.3ghz cpu?
It runs multitasking better and smoother than the n8. Apps like email, facebook, the web browser, and office run faster on the 701. Also it has 512 Mb of Ram instead of 256 that the N8 has. It means that apps like Opera Mobile work way better on the 701.
The 701 sports a dual led flash that is great deal of torch. Really, really great and very handy when needed. The N8 has a red led, but is useless as a torch.
The screen on the 701 is slightly more sensitive and a little bit more bright.
So if you are looking for great pictures and more media options then the N8 is for you. If you are looking for a phone with more office-like use, then the 701 could be a better choice.
The best phone I've had so far.
I have had this handset for the last 20 months. Upgraded it from Symbian^3 to Anna. A whole new handset :D, and then to Belle, again!, a whole new handset.
No problems at all. I use it as my primary camera (my camera has been collecting dust since I bought it), as a messenger with whatsapp, and as an office tool (emails and that kind of stuff).
The most heavy works it carries is to be my sports companion (I run) with endomondo and the music player.
And surprisingly it's still snappy when it comes to be used. Asphalt 5/6 run just great, NFS Speed shift is great and many other games run smoothly. Plug it to your TV and you'll have a great gaming experience.
I use it even as a video player...
I've not changed it because there was no competitor, neither from nokia or any other brand. Until the 808 appeared and now the lumia 920.
So, I'm so happy with my phone that I'll use it as my primary phone till the day it stops working properly.
I also own an Android phone, and used to have a Galaxy Tab 7"... great app store, but that's about it.
hey, are you guys happy with the speed? 701 is faster than n8 according to specs but is the 701 camera gud for day to day use. ? I am not that much into photography(but would prefer macro shots)? But the n8 is only 4k costlier than 701 in my country?
shobhit, 10 Sep 20122.5 yrs old phone. And still so popular. Feels good. Proud owner of Nokia N8. Still love it. F... more@shobhit
It's actually only 23 months old, not two and a half years.
It's impossible to overclock the CPU to 1.3 GHz because the hardware just can't cope with that clock speed.
I'm not sure what you're referring to regarding Elop but have you seen the two new Lumia phones? The 920 looks and sounds amazing. I know what I'll be getting when it's finally released later this year, the Lumia 920.
I use this phone 1 year it's exelent phone. After belle will be some new update.
Itis picture quality is sogood but it has many hanging problems.
symbian fan, 10 Sep 2012Hi carlo ! How is you ! Today i updated my friend nokia n8 :-) everything was fine :-) but we ... moreI know that this happens when the device is destinated for use (and imported originaly) for a country, lets say for example italy. After that the device is imported to your country. The shop that you have bought the device instal (for free) the Arabic language. If you proceed to an update, Nokia "recognize" the device as italian (which is logical) indipendently if you are using N8 in Dubai in Australia or India etc... As a result, Nokia will send you the italian update Belle version. In my country (Greece) Nokia Care told me they can install the language i want but not for free (15 euro). Usually the ("good")shops that sell this kind of devices, if an update is needed, do it for free. Hope to have helped. Have a nice day.

i expected that nokia n8 got 100,000 total comments before the end of 2015!
I have been checking on this phone for months, reading the comments on this forum. Where I am, I would have had to buy a locked one and I wanted nothing but an unlocked one (all sold out). I got a steal of a deal while on holidays (last one that the store was eager to get rid of). I am really happy with this phone and the great holiday photos I got from it. I think it is well worth the price. It looks real elegant, feels sturdy and works like a dream.

cha, 10 Sep 2012can u help me.. the msg icon on screen is blinking every time in my n8 without receiving msg.... moreI'm starting to feel like a freak here:))). Alone, talking by my self. Ok, i haven't have this icon blinking problems since phones like nokia 3310. Maybe you have this old problem and you have your sim full. Try this and let us know if this was the problem: enter messages/options(the vertical bars icon from right)/view folders/options/Sim messages... see what happens there. If you have many and need them, copy them to phone memory and delete all. See if the icon is still there.
