i've found the article about oled lifespan in one of the previous posts in womworld.com/nokia. it says there that oled lifespan is around 14,000 hours and lcd is around 60,000 hours. i'm sticking with an lcd screen equipped phone. i think oled is just a nice and enticing gimmick. but i need something that will last for a long long time. it's either n96 or n95 8gb. otherwise, i'm going back to n82.
Chaitanya, 04 Nov 2008i was going to buy this phone but but... people are almost scared me here abt OLED life LOL...... morehave no fear!
AMOLED is a good piece of technology and it has evolve through time. They have already find ways to extend its life span to the maximum and I'm buying this phone primarily because of AMOLED..
i have this phone.. The screen is really great! The only prob is it keeps restarting from time to time for no apparent reason.. Nokia plz release an update quick!
Anonymous, 04 Nov 2008i forgot the name... but I think it is in front of the bingo bonanza near adjacent to kodak...... morehaha, yeah thats the sickest.. in never had a phone dished out before in just 2weeksc",
anyways you can deal your phone in greenhills, they have a lot of phon swaping going on there, just be cautious and cunning, deal with them inteligently.
can every1 stop babbling about the OLED lifespan, as even the life cycle of OLED is 1~2 Years, they are half the price of a normal LCD.
i was going to buy this phone but but... people are almost scared me here abt OLED life LOL... ok not gonna buy this one :-(
For comparison my country sells str8 from importer = 380 EUR , from distributor = 556 EUR !!!
"Price in Qatar = 479 EUR = 2200 QR
Price displayed in GSM Arena = 430 Eur = 1,978 QAR
Wer can i get for this price????"
Bro, every country have its own direct distributor ... 430 EUR if direct from country main importer . If u get it from country's distributor then ur price will be more than 430 EUR
When will Nokia N series integrate Sirf Star III chipset ? or because Nokia still under contract with STM electronics make them haven't make the moves ?
please note all those people who are worried about the OLED of N85, nokia is already using this display in its 8800 ARTE since december 2007. there are no complaints even after a year. so go ahead and buy N85 without any fear.
OLED lifetime: 14,000 hours or less than 2 years
LCD lifetime: 60,000 or more than 6 years

A significant benefit of OLED displays over traditional liquid crystal displays (LCDs) is that This is the difference between OLED and LCD. Each has their own advantages. OLEDs do not require a backlight to function. Thus they draw far less power and, when powered from a battery, can operate longer on the same charge. Because there is no need for a backlight, an OLED display can be much thinner than an LCD panel. OLED-based display devices also can be more effectively manufactured than LCDs and plasma displays. However, degradation of OLED materials has limited their use.

x-men, 01 Nov 2008What does OLED mean?is it suppose to be better than TFT?Does it have a certain life span? plea... moreOLED is organic light emitting diode, they do have defined life spans. sony has a tv that is 11 inch i think that is OLED and it has virtually 0ms response time and a 1 million to 1 contrast ratio. The problem sony is having is that because it is organic the components degrade. So over time it will begin to degrade, although i can speculate that because it is only the size of a cell phone screen it may last much longer.

Had it for a week now, I love it! I can't really fault it, and the improved battery life on the N95 is so much better, I've charged it twice in 7 days! Keypad is really easy to use, which is surprising as it's a very flat design. The camera is really quick to focus and gives excellent results which are well worth printing. The Navi Wheel is excellent, not too sensitive. Audio quality is pretty good too, although I never bother using the headphones supplied with the handset - although I think they could improve the volume to make it a little bit louder. The gallery is really fluent, you can glide through your images with the Navi Wheel and the zooming is gradual. No crashing/hanging yet so all in all a brilliant phone! ...And it's not too expensive - Bonus!
