I had the phone for 1 week now.
Not a bad phone, but has a backlight bug that stops the phone from lighting up sometimes.
Touch screen mainly for stylus and graphics load very slow.
The user interface looks old and confusing to use.
Not a bad phone, but for the money, you can find better in Samsung Omnia HD, LG Crystal or HTC Hero.

I have been using cell phones for over 20 years, I have tried all brands, and for me Nokia is on top all the way, I have the N97 and I am loving it, I have not experience any issues that most people are complaining about, my N97 does what it was made for, it emails great, it text’s great, it makes and receives call great, you want better email get a computer, you want better GPS get a real GPS, this is a phone that does a bunch of things cant expect it to be great at all of them there are given an take, This phone is better then the iCrap . at least Nokia does not charge for updates.
Anonymous, 30 Jun 2009Nice self serving reply from NokiaI whish I worked for Nokia - then I would have had one by now... lol.
Like I said - leave an opinion of the phone or move on. No one is here to convince anyone else. You buy the phone you like. People here like the N97 and are here to discuss it's features. All the negative remarks achieve is draw more attention to this phone and increase the interest in it... so thanks for that at least. lol
Quit!!! all apple Iphone sucker. cuz mamy people complained that iphone 3gs heats like bomb and its color fades away within a month.....is this a good phone...???
and now there a bad news for u ...
HEY all Iphone and Samsung lovers get ready to hear BAD news for you. Nokia has announced the Firmware update for N97 . it will be available from 1st july, all the little problems were fixed...SUCK ALLL!!
i m proud to be nokia lover because nokia takes care of costomer, hears and solves the problem, not like Apple that realesea the update after one and half later. and samsung even doesent know the Firmware update...
in india in mumbai it costs 35000 , thats not too much comparing the -Old Wine In New Bottle- Iphone 3gs..
this phone should have been of 17th era phone ha ha ha...

Anonymous, 30 Jun 2009Ok so ive been fiddling with my N97 since saturday and here is what I think... Battery : Aw... moreDear " Anonymous " you do not expect us to believe your wonderful review, this phone sucks, from the plasticy hardware to the terrible interface touchscreen and keyboard, plase Nokia find a better way to convince people
Ok so ive been fiddling with my N97 since saturday and here is what I think...
Battery : Awesome. I abused it for 2 full days and it eventually died. When I eventually die out of my 'new phone' phase I expect it to last a bit longer.
Camera: Superb. Very nice photographs, and amazing video quality. no complaints in this section
Qwerty: Some of the reviewers ragged the keyboard. Im honestly confused as to why, but im sure thats them just looking for faults. It is a very easy keyboard to get used to.
Emailing, etc: I put on Emoze as it syncs contacts, calendars , etc through push. very satisfied with this service.
Homescreen: This is my favourite. I have set it up so that I have Facebook, Calendar, Favourite Contacts, Weather, and email. Everything is LIVE which i think is amazing. You also have the a quick shortcut to put the homescreen in offline mode which is useful if you want to save battery.
Touchscreen: From the reviews I was expecting something terrible, but to be honest I actually prefer this screen to the I phone screen (resistive vs capacitive). My last phone was the HTC diamond which was terrible compared to the n97. They did a very good job with this IMO.
OS: Fast, fun and and stable. Reviewers made this out to be terrible. Its not as 'fun' as the Iphone, but I think its brilliant. It kicks any windows mobile operating system, and is very easy to use.
Slider: The hinge that flips the screen up and down is a nice novelty. It seems sturdy enough, and I suppose if it ever gives me problems we have the awesome people from nokia to look after us .
Body: Beautiful looking phone in the flesh. Pictures dont justify it at all. IMO it actually makes the Iphone shape look outdated. The sliding screen works very well. There is a nice spring-loaded slider that locks and unlocks the screen, which is an awesome touch. Camera shutter works well as it opens and closes the camera which is pretty standard. it has stereo speakers which are quite powerful.
wicked
I've had this phone for about 2 weeks now and sorry to say this but I feel let down. If it was released a year ago it would have been great, but in 2009, the software and UI feels dated.
Sure it's got the whole Symbian feature set, but the touch experience doesn't compliment the Symbian UI. I've had the N93, N80, N95 and Iphone as well, but this was the most confusing UI ever. Sometimes, a single tap is enough, sometimes you need a double tap, sometimes you need to hold it down and tap etc etc All in all very confusing and not practical for when you want to get things done "fast"!
Which brings me to another gripe, being speed. The N97 is simply... SLOW! Having an ARM 11 434 MHz processor behind all the hardware and software on the n97 is like a 4 stroke engine in a porsche. Was Nokia cutting costs?
The camera and video quality are ok, but getting access to them in the Gallery is not ok. Trying to zoom into photos with the touch screen is a "joke", the processor simply can't handle this function and there is a 2-3 sec pause when the photo attempts to refocus.
If that's not enough to ruin the N97, there is a major bug that stops the screen from lighting up 30% of the time. You have to lock and unlock the phone to get the phone to light up again... "Not good enough Nokia!"
3 things that could have saved the N97.
1. A faster processor - the phone is far too slow!
2. Better touch screen - Stylus is OUT!
3. Better, more consistent touch screen interface.
I'm a Nokia fanboy, but I'm trading this one in waiting for the HTC Hero or Lg Crystal.
Just back from a phone store, the touch screen and internet browsing are a Joke, multitouch is non existent
Nokia should not even try to copy Apple
fight for coltan in all Nokia Mobile's ...(funny)
I should receive my N97 any day now
Allan, 30 Jun 2009If you have a data plan with your cell company they can(at least with fido)put a data tracker ... moreso i'm guessing that packet data counter in the call logs doesn't mean anything right?
Does the N97 have Ngage built in as I demoed the phone and could not find it, or do you have to go to Ovi to download Ngage. As I also heard in pocket gamer the Ngage plan to merge with Ovi.
I've got the n96 and im not due to upgrade till June2010 which in a way is good as it gives me time ro read reviews and see wether to still get the N97 or E75 as I know the E75 got ngage. I also checked on youtube on the ngage playing in landscape and doesn't looks abit...well weird.
Anonymous, 29 Jun 2009hahaha are you nuts?? hahahahaha!!!!! what are you so proud about??! this phone just came out... morehow would you know dat ders gonna be a problem? tell me in detail, cause i just bought it...
im from the uk and just recently changed from and old iphone on o2 to vodafone and an n97, iphone is an overhyped phone they are good for music and smooth interface but internet browsing is slow and even with the latest camera it might as well not have one. So far i love my N97, unlike my iphone its fast for net browsing, has a decent camera 5mpc carl zeiss and i have great reception all the time :) (unlike o2)
The only thing i would say isnt great is the touch screen experience but its by no means bad
hope this helps ppl decide ;)
