Microsoft has already pushed out the GDR1 update for its Windows Phone 8.1 fleet and Denim was supposed to come this month. Denim is a special update for Lumia devices – in a way WP's Nexus line – which improves the Lumia camera (including 2160p@24fps video capture for some phones), the Glance Screen and adds "Hey, Cortana" voice prompt.
O2 in the UK is now saying that the update will not arrive by New Year, it will likely roll out in early January. O2's German branch had also claimed a Q4 launch for the Denim update, but an official statement in the O2 UK user forums from a few days ago claims that Microsoft has not even sent the software to the carrier for testing.
O2 promises it will complete the testing and approval process as quickly as possible, but we will not be getting updates on the process until it's nearly done. The two new mid-rangers – Lumia 830 and Lumia 730/735 have launched with Denim out of the box – but that does little for the higher (and lower) end phones.
Funny that Carphone Warehouse in the UK has been selling Lumia 735 for some time with Denim Update and Cortana on it. So why is it taking so long to be released on other Lumia Models in the UK?
