I was pretty frustrated with O2 Atom. Like other so eager awaitng, I got my first O2 and it hangs on me after 5 days. The screen blackout and won't response to hard nor soft reset. This problem also faced by others out there too. The shop exchanged the 2nd set for me, the same problem occurs after 7 days. It is so frustracting if you are stranded overseas and need a phone urgently!!! Anyone know what is the problem?

Hiya guys,
Hmm... I agree... I have an Atom too... Though it's not as stable as the Mini as yet... but 1st batches are normally a bit more buggy... esp with the new WM5.0 from Microsoft... but wat to do... I'm a sucker for new technology too ;p
Think we'll need to give it a little bit more time before it becomes more stable...
Think they should have the new fixes coming out soon... That's what O2 always does and that's why I like them... Since the good old xda days... =)
Cheers,
Geo

Hi all,
I am using an Atom and my experience with the Atom is that voice call clarity and stability is better than my Mini. Also, mini's network reception isn't quite as good as Atom as well.
I guess as an early adopter, i am aware that it will not be as robust and stable since Atom is designed with a brand new OS - Windows Mobile 5.0 and O2 has also added quite a number of new software and features, like FM Radio. Well, since i am a sucker for owning the latest gadget, i just have to bear with it and upgrade the device as and when O2 releases them.
I heard that they are working on providing customers with upgrades really soon.
So hang in there Atom users!

Another thing,it will sound better if file converted to mono instead of stereo.

everyone is talking about the glory of 02 with its mini. but it is not 02's mini. it is HTC/ dopod 818. O2 just marketed it.
Now we see 02's pathetic attempt in trying to manufacture there own phone. look out for the dopod 818 pro.

ATOMIC THE ATOM....
After much anticipation and expectation of the so called next generation pocket pc, the O2 Atom whilst devastating its consumers will have managed to at least keep eBay extremely happy as 'Atom's' will be leaving their eagerly awaited consumer's hands as quickly as they arrived, as victims of the overwhelming hype try to redeem their money before the almost certain immediate depreciation, begins on O2's disastrous 'atom'ic bomb. It begins from the first time when you switch on the stylish slick black amazingly compact sized ppc and you eagerly await to give it a full going over. Firstly you notice the slow loading time of each of the setup screens, but being an optimist after everything you've read and heard, you dismiss it as 'just the setup' and await to get full use. Most user's jump straight into either the phone or the camera apps readying to make your first phone call from it or take your first photo. For those who choose the phone find a well laid out and nice and simple navigation system which is about where the pros end. Hang time and lag as well as poor sound quality are immediately confronting to the user, so much so in fact that it might well lead the user to believe there is something wrong with their miniature size all in one device. And for those who choose the camera app, well they find little surprises and many flaws as well with an ultra slow screen relay which makes you believe that may very well be holding the first camera phone to be released. And unfortunately it doesn't get all that much better as you discover the rest of what the atom has to offer. Regular momentary freeze's and lag in loading simply make the atom seem way behind the modern age. If this is O2's answer for the modern businessman then I'd hate to pay a visit to the factory where these flawed devices where made. Whilst it seems perhaps petty to complain about such problems as loading times it is only because the industry standard has set the mark at instantaneous response that we expect so much. After a day's use of the atom users will be questioning themselves as to how long they will be able to use this device for before it drives them up the wall after a couple of soft resets and it ends up in pieces on the ground. They may also question how on earth did O2 get it so wrong. The thought and promise was magnificent...an all in one device which would answer every man and woman’s dilemma of how to combine a diary, an ipod, a phone, a camera, along with perhaps a laptop, and internet into one device. And as much as this device certainly has delivered all that to its consumer it has fallen so short of the mark by just a lack of processor speed and perhaps ram. It was written in reviews before release that it was surprising to see that the processor hadn't being updated but everybody thought O2 surely would know what they were doing. But what’s even more unbelievable is the fact that whoever carried out the so called rigorous testing on the device before release was actually satisfied with what they were using. Its just hard to believe that O2 didn't say, hey lets just update the processor with a bit more speed. On the contrary however, the foundations are now in place for what could be a promising device. Everything is there now, and all O2 needs to do is upgrade the speed with some other minor fixes with the wireless utilities, camera - particularly the pathetic flash on it, and the phone hang time and they may just be able to redeem themselves to the glory days of the O2 mini.
My Personal advice...save your money for an updated model as it surely can't be to far away as the complaints begin to roll in.

I was so frustrated with the damage speakers that I went back for an exchanged (within 2 days)! I tested the new set immediately on the spot when they pass it to me. Guess what! Its another set with the same problem! I have to change on the spot again! Maybe they should recall all the Atom in the market.

I have waited for atom and invested heavyly after reading and comparing with other PDA phone spec. I based on O2 good record too. Finally, Atom just let me down totally. It is impressive with it size, features pack, but almost every program are not meeting experience PPC user needs. It is an insult to me. Yes, I made the deccision, I trusted O2 and Windows Mobile latest should be better
with improvement, I just couldn't believe it.

I also bought the O2 Atom, the day it was launched in India (Ludhiana). I was very frustrated and dissapointed to have purchased it and wasted money. It had major connectivity issues. It Hangs, No voice clarity, sound of speakers - worst ever. Cracking sound during the call. Wrote to O2 but further got frustrated by the dissapointing answers the sent... saying wait for major upgrade of ROM. Is it a Beta phone..if yes why we made to loose our money. O2 Mini was great... I have used XDA, O2 Mini for last 3-4 years... ATOM is Bad..sorry worst..of any PDA/Phone. Its a bad patch on the reputation of O2. Now even the dealers have the same opinion.I used it for 4 days, but after that I could not bear it and sold it off and I yes lost money in the transaction.
My word of advice, please please please don't go for it.
Thank you
