I just bought Pretec SD Wlan card for my XDA ii mini and can't seem to access the internet on my home wifi network. The card detects the network but does anyone know the exact settings? Please help.

I spoke to o2 in uk for the release date of XDAII mini and it seems it will be only in march:(..well its better late than ever and as ben says as uk mite get a later natch of xda mini there might not be many glitches as the first bathces hehe:D

Just installed the GPS software in the Mini and drove around the estate. The GPS thingy works surprising well. It even helps to plot and deviated routes for you automatically with voice response. Man, talk about a convergence device. Now I have an iPod, Phone, PDA, Movie Cam and a GPS all rolled into one neat little package rather than carry 5 different devices.

I bought the mini last week, and I m all happy with it, apart from a fatal hang which i have to hard reset my pda. It will be quite perfect if WiFi is also included, but despite the size i m satisfied. (a little heavy, but i guess thats nothing compare to those BIG ones out there -like the IIs)

Good news for Singaporeans who are hoping to buy the O2 Mini.

Looks like there is a new shipment of O2 Mini that just arrived in SG. Saw a lot of Mini in Sim Lim Square(a popular electronics mall in SG).

There is even one shop who is bundling the O2 Mini with a 1GB SD Card!!!

Wow, talk about fierce competition.

LAI SUN, better rush off to SLS and get one before it is all sold out again.

Hi, used Ulead Video Studio 8 to encode RM files. Select custom to choose the resolution of 320x240. If you choose anything bigger than that, you might not be able to run the RM. No point setting it higher as your screen resolution is that size.

Err....the RM files are meant for the E680. The Mini can't accept RM files unless there is a Real Player for Pocket PCs.

) Kindly note that installation of certain 3rd party software might cause the unit to hang, as certain softwares do not properly release cache memory that effectively.

2) With regards to warranty, we have a 1 year limited warranty, whereby any hardware issues, determined by our repair centre, is warrantied by us.

3) Accessories for xda mini would be coming in the first quarter this year 2005.

As a photo nut, I would rate the camera's resolution only a 3.
The image tends to be very soft and lacking in detail and sharpness. Under low-light conditions, there is no Gain-Up feature which will allow you to see your framing. Can't be used indoors even with the lights on as the photos turns out to be very grainy.

I believe Howard Forums did a relatively good review on the image quality of the O2 Mini. Despite the firmware upgrade which promises to improve white balance and image sharpness, it is still terrible as compared to the Sony Ericsson K700.

Just my two cents worth...

hi all,
i want to buy this phone. but i am little worried about the still picture quality of its digital camera. can some one tell me is it good quality camera. if u want to grade it picture quality from 10 compare to sonyericsson s700, what grade would u give. thanks for helping me in advance.

Well, I've tried using a combincation of software such as Ulead Video Studio 8, Nero6 and PVAuthor to encode my video into RM, MP4 and 3GP respectively. Video playback on both devices are relatively smooth. But I think the E680 has an edge as it can play RM which gives better quality. But the Mini accepts the WMV format which turns out to be quite OK. In terms of stability, I would have to say the E680 is more stable.

Although you can purchase some 3rd software like DVD-PDA encoding software from Handango or Pocketgear, I think all geeks like to experiment doing things the old fashion way as it offers more in terms of the learning process.

Oh yeah, the colour saturation seems to be better on the E680. If you are thinking of buying the Mini, please note that the Mini hanged on me a couple of times on the first few days...typical M**soft.
Hopefully, they will have a firmware upgrade just like the did with the Mini's camera. All in all, I will still stick with the Mini as the interface is a lot more user friendly and intuitive as compared to the E680. But the sound and screen quality of the E680 is top notch!

One thing good about the PPC is that you can shut down any unused apps to free up the memory. Despite removing as much memory from the phone as I can, the app still hangs intermittently. Guess you are right....it could be the limitation of the base memory of 64MB. Although there are some shops who can upgrade it to 128MB for you, it voids the warranty. Guess I'll probably try this once my warranty expires.

Oh yeah, for those who are comtemplating buying this phone, please take note that the brush aluminium casing SCRATCHES and BURRS very easily. Any slight abrasion on the casing will marr the look. I absent mindedly placed the phone and my coins in the same pocket and the casing got scratched. So,take care where you place your precious........

thanks Fotonutz your answers help me alot hehehe... i wonder is it O2 making this the first batch to test out if there is any problem needed to be rectify and correct it in the up coming batch of XDA 2 mini? if the problems you mention earlier exist of every XDA 2 mini i would be disappointed with O2, i thought all along they would produce more stable phones other than some other existing phone company in this market, do you think O2 will rectify these problems and produce more stable XDA 2 mini? i really put an eye on this for awhile but turns out to be a doubful machine... wondering if i should persue other brands or it is alright with the mini...i have a thought is it the memory inside the mini is insufficient to run the video clips? as it has only 64mb, i really hope they solve these problems.

Nope...the O2 Mini isn't that stable either. Crashed on me a couple of times on the first two days. Whenever I try to play some videos, the processor wud just freeze and I have to reboot the phone. Damn frustrating. Conversely, the same 3GP/MP4 video has no problems on my E680. Makes me wonder if the Win2003 PPC version is actually a Win98 in phone's clothing.

I am not too sure about I-Jam, but in Singapore, the phone is sold as O2 Mini and it has all the photo and video album plus the T9 predictive text input method. Even though the T9 works exactly like a normal Nokia T9, I'd still prefer the handwriting input method.

here is the confusion i am having now both XDA II mini and the i-mate JAM is the same thing and most of the stuff is made out the same as well as the processor, but there is just few things that arent the same like the T-9 and the Video/Audio album these are extras in the i-mate JAM. therefore in some reviews, viewed and categorize them as the same thing just not the same company. if its the same thing why not o2 have those mentioned stuff inside its XDA II mini? should i get o2 or i-mate? in addition, i am affraid of getting these machine which will often hang's itself and would cause alot of trouble to run back to the dealer. i already have these sorts of problem with my past exprience all i can say is its messy and i hope to get a better understanding.

Actually O2 gives you a choice, if you want a bigger screen, keypad and WiFi you can get the IIs, if you just want a smaller phone but no WiFi you get the Mini. Personally I would go for the Mini. I am using the O2 II now, only gripes are it is a bit big, feels like talking into a book, and the software is a bit unstable, on the II Explorer often hangs. Does anyone know if the Mini is more stable?
