Andrew, when I sent a ringtone to my G51, it showed up in the list of ringtones automatically unlike with other phones where you have to find it in folders and set it as a ringtone.

i have had this phone for 2 and a half years. i love it. its the smallest phone i can find. and the cutest. it has great battery life, i go away for the weekend with a full nights charge and im fine. the only downfall is that i cannot figure out how to download ring tones. after 2.5 years of heavy use the ringtone speaker is dieing, so now im looking for a new phone. i think i will buy this phone again. i love it sooo much!!

Lily, did you try pressing the up/down scroller while you are on the phone to adjust volume?

I just got this phone and i really like it so far. It is the cutest thing. people are always amazed by the size of it. the only problem so far is that there is no volume on the ear peice which is too bad because sometimes when i am on the street in the city, i can't really hear because the bacground noise is louder than the person't voice. other than that, it really is a lovely little thing.

Nice phone, just it took me a while to get used to the keypad when writing SMS for example if you want to write the letter "D" you push the button above the letter not under like other other phones! Other than that it's a GREAT phone

A very good cell phone! Perfect design , many functions. The only problem I faced (I bought it in Dec/04) is that there is a difficulty in downloading anything using GPRS. I suggest it if you need a simple but beautiful phone. Ideal as a gift!

It's a nice sized and good looking phone, but I wouldn't recommend someone to buy it. The ear volume is extremely low, and I find my calls get cut off often. Reception is not the best.

Nice phone but the keyguard renders it useless. You need to press the button 3 times to set the keyguard and only twice to unset it. I have made so many calls and wasted so much credit that I don't use the phoneo anymore. Got in trouble for 911 calls too. Pity!

My experience with this phone has been very good, although troubled along the way. I bought it in April 2005, used for a while, loved it, until one day I downloaded a wallpaper from the Panasonic OFFICIAL website (what was I thinking?!? :) ), and the phone froze permanently. It took me months sifting through the Internet to get the right cable and software to flash it (thank the lord for the russian mafia). After that, it's been working great again.

Pros:
Its size is obviously the phone's best feature. I'll pick a bone with all the cell phone manufacturers and mainly their users who demand the phones nowadays to have stupid cameras built-in, which prevents them from getting this small. In this sense, the G50/51x family seem to be the last of this kind, unfortunately.
Other than that, the phone's internet browser is also quite decent. And the ability to play true tones is quite cool.

Reception is quite good, SUPERIOR (that's right, you read it right, SUPERIOR) to Nokia's and Motorola's (I had a few phones from both brands on the very same network - T-Mobile GSM in the US and none of them had better reception that this little fella).

Cons:
First and foremost, as others have well put: the battery sucks. From the start, the standby time was around 48 to 72 hours (with no wap browsing, no ringing from incoming calls, no vibrating alerts or anything that might consume extra power). Talk time is somewhere between 60 and 90 minutes. Also, if you're going into areas that don't have service (such as basements) remember to turn off the phone, because it will start searching for all network types and ranges, and that wastes a LOT of battery power.

Other minor problems: no phone management software from Panasonic, which sucks, and the handsfree feature doesn't work very well (I believe the sound loops from the speaker to the mic, causing all sorts of problems).

The matter of durability that was mentioned in this forum is very relative. Cell phones are not supposed to be dropped anyway. Still, you can feel that the G51m is a bit fragile, maybe more so than some Nokias and Motos. But still, it's also very much less expensive, it costs at least half of the price of the other phones, maybe even less. So if it breaks after some time, buy a new one and you're still on the plus side...

I brought this phone second hand and its a really great phone. There are only two things that really annoy me and thats the message alert tone is really really quiet and I couldn't get it to go any louder. The other thing is that the key guard lock was pretty pathetic it would always unlock in my handbag. Apart from those two minor things, this phone is really cool. the sound quality is the best.
