maybe it's meant for PS4 streaming.. if only Sony has Apple or Samsungs' marketing team.
Well trust me guys... I was the first owner of Z5 Premium in Mumbai... Had brot it for 60000/- one day before it was released to purchase... Not a sony fan but for 4k display... I tell you guys i couldnt found any difference in 1080 screen and UHD screen... Even screen is much better on Qhd Galaxies... The phone heats up like anything... I complained at Sony Store they asked me to wait for first firmware update and it ll be fixed... even was not happy with the camera quality and Phone looks as same as old Z devices... Nothing called So Premium... 60K waste... Finally I returned the phone back to sony for unbearable Heating Issue... Now i am with Nexus 6P...
Really bad experience with Z5 Premium...
1080p is the standard for a smartphone and for human eyes
Actually its wrong to call it a 4K display.Beacause its actually 2K as the details does not depends on the resolution but on the ppi.
QHD is not 2K but 1.5K
On an 5 inch display
1 .FHD =1080*1920= 441ppi
2 .QHD=1440*2560= 587ppi= 1.3*441
3 .4K/UHD= 2160*3840= 882ppi =2*441=2K.
AnonD-468543, 22 Nov 2015I bet even angry bird will run at 10 FPS in that phone.Good luck running any game at decent fp... moreYour bet wrong
I am using the phone for the past 3 weeks and it is awesome. I have never seen such kind of display in any other device. It is very good and crystal clear.
Personally not interested in 4k on a phone but
Amazing and smart tech...
Loads 4k only when needed
A VR headset users dream come true. ;-)
Hint: Sonys own VR headset soon to be released
As for me, when comparing my fhd with new qhd, qhd its better to look at, even with minimal difference of 2x pixels. 4k screen will be the same, and even if this screen is not perfect I find it pleasant to see more details. Like in this screen test if you look you can see the difference(well I can see), and even if minimal, its still better. What I see more revolutionary in this phone is that the screen resolution is adaptively changed to the lowest with battery saving in mind, while when you want to look at some hi-res things, you can enjoy 8Mp quality. Still I wonder if its possible to block auto upscaling to save a battery, or lower res from fhd to even hd, for use in stamina mode it would be great. There is plenty energy saving screen setting I miss in most android phones(f.ex.inverse colors) that can save a battery but for starters, sony did great job.
meh, 22 Nov 20154k (or even 8k if it's exist) is very usefull for watching vr. But for daily use, 4k is useless. and that's what everyone said about 1080p
Most people can see details down to about 1/12000 of the viewing distance.

The 806dpi, would thus require usage closer than 38cm for most people, and that does not seem very realistic for a phablet.
If your vision are poorer -as mine- you would need it even closer.
My personal limit of 1/7000 would require less than 22cm usage
But a few eagled eyed people got a limit as fine as about 1/25000 of the distance, for those this device will be great.
I would say that 4K is overkill for anything that does not fill out a larger portion of the field of view, for close to everyone, and for even fewer it would be worth an extra strain on the battery.
But I really like the idea of the display normally acting as FHD, this might be done in a way so the additional strain on the battery is minimal, and if so, it is fine that they offer it for those that can benefit from it.
I bet even angry bird will run at 10 FPS in that phone.Good luck running any game at decent fps with that cpu throttling down and underpowered gpu.
Well, 4K is Sony's QHD in a way, they just made a direct bigger jump. Even better There were a clear difference in the first samples ( the red and green lines ) so even if it not necessary or usually viable, it depends on what you look at in some cases.

Not sure why gsmarena is surprised that there is no visual improvement... We have been saying that for months.
I'll still buy it! Because it's nice to have, even if everyone says it's useless!
Its not possible to tell the diffrerence between a 4k or 2k mobile display.
Even though kudos to Sony to be able to develop 4k on a smartphone with a whopping 806ppi......
yeah i don't think 4K will be useful for your daily usage, especially looking at it from a 5.5" screen, 4K is just overkill for it.
but if we think about it, 4K on a 5.5" screen MIGHT be showing its advantage if we use it with a Google Cardboard VR, because a 1080p 5.2" screen for VR looks very very pixelated.
welp, please test it? :P
4k is seriously useless to anything other than VR. IIRC VR is exactly the type of application that Sony uses 4k for. It's like having the first true VR screen and using them/it for silly things like photos and videos (where the detail cannot be resolved)... what a waste.
