Nokia N95 camera review: High five
Camera interface, description of functions, sample pictures, comparison to a digital camera, and sample VGA videos. Nokia N95 is among the first mobile phones on the European market to ever offer a 5-megapixel resolution. What’s more, its camera features a Carl Zeiss lens, automatic focus, and detailed user-configurable settings.

I have to say that the quality of the images is truly amazing for a mobile phone. What more can you guys expect from a mobile. To take shot as good as full function digital camera? No way. So don't compare it with a camera. The thing is N95 can be good enough to be substitution for a camera in some cases where u want to take good shoots without having to carry a camera all the way
The video capability is very good, can be comparable with the N93. It's a pity that this bad boy doesn't have optical zoom. But if it does, the size will be much bigger.
Sony Ericsson fan boys have to accept that so far video function in SE phones is crap. What a lame with a tiny QCIF video. Even Samsung can easily beat that.
Currently, N95 takes best photos, accept that. I'm waiting for SE to release a similar 5 MP and a comparision would be interesting

the n95's camera is pretty good.anyways no camera phone will be capable of outperforming a real digital camera soon.in general speaking,a mobile phone is smaller than a camera, and it has to do a bucketload of other things whilst a camera only has to take pictures. also a digital camera has a bigger sensor than the phones do.i think that the n95 would be a cracking camera phone if it had a ccd sensor instead of a cmos.although i am curious how the sharp 910sh pictures look (if i remember correctly that has a 5 mpix ccd sensor with 2x optical zoom).so it would be interesting to see it go up against the 910sh and the 5 mpix lg.

Not only is this NOT a full review, but it's not a complete camera review either! Where are the text document samples? One of the primary uses for my cameraphone is taking pictures of documents, this is important...

Gsm Arena you used write such good reviews about phones, what happened this time? With all due respect, I think this is a rather lousy review, I was awaiting this review so badly especially from your site. I hope you ever come with a better review, I was waiting for your review before buying this phone but now I will just have to search somewhere else. Anyway, thanks

Please have it in your mind that mobile cameras will never be better/equal to good cameras like Fuji F9600, Canon G6 and so on.
But in the matter of fact, "ultra-compact" cameras is all about looks and number of megapixsels.
In terms of performance, Nokia N95 is equal to Olympus Mju Mini S for example. (http://www.palmshop.ru/img/fot...if.big.gif).
GSM Arena is right in statment "Substitute for a digital camera"
However, this phone is not about the camera and I hope to see the full review soon. If you want REAL camera - Pentax K-series, Pentax ist*, Canon EOS are on the top.
Mobile phones are going to change "ultra-compact" cameras one day...
All the Best,
Lukas

so why not a full phone review?? i think you should focus on the complete package, because i'm not going to buy this phone instead of a camera...
also, there have been a lot of reports about the phone's poor battery life, so make sure you tell us what that's like...right now it sounds to me like they tried to do too much with this little device and it's more a prototype with room for a lot of improvements to make it a really reliable, day to day phone, instead it's a gadget junkies phone.

I don't know, i'm not an expert in cameras...but as i can see there's over sharpening all over the edges...just like with the camera on 6280, 6233...as i said, it just may be my opinion, correct me if i'm wrong

What is annoying is that the article implies heavily that this phone is capable of producing very good photos buy saying that it is a 'Substitute for camera'. It's nowhere near the performance of a real camera.

IMO this article is ridiculous.
if i'm lloking for some articles about some digital camera performances and/or comparisons,
i'll go to www.dpreview.com or www.steves-digicams.com or www.dcresource.com instead.

it's not fair comparing cameraphone to digicam.
even the cheapest digicam has a dedicated chip for digital image processing in it.
i think GSMarena starting to make-up things...

How can the phone's picture s be compared to a real digital camera. My 3.2MP can take better pictures than this! Megapixels aren't everything, and all the details on the pictures are missing. Look at the leaves; it's a big smudged mess of green, along with the ground. It's all like a large watercolour painting. You implied the only difference was the colour which is very untrue.
It's OK for a cameraphone, but nowhere near the quality of real cameras.

forgot to mention,.. sony is known for their images with lesser barrel distortion while maintaining sharpness and exposure at once. while canon is known for the sharpness and accuracy.

i think nokia don't really focus the digital camera quality on their phone instead they just add megapixels and settings for further improvement over their past camera phones. their primary target is the consumers not the digital imaging crown or TIPA award. on the other hand, SE aims to be the best mobile imaging company and also just like nokia, wants to attract costumers. all in all both companies have slightly different aims on the market.
