Sony Ericsson P1 review: A smart sharp-shooter
The Sony Ericsson P1 is an exciting new smartphone that is to be included in Sony Ericsson portfolio. Powered by Symbian OS and featuring a QWERTY keyboard, a touchscreen TFT display with QVGA resolution and a 3.2 megapixel camera with auto focus, it represents the next level of the development of UIQ smartphones. As such, it seems that the Sony Ericsson P1 will be the flagship of Sony Ericsson smartphone line overrunning even the Sony Ericsson P990 and we were more than curious to find out how it performed in real life.

Very nice phone, stylish and easy to use. Regarding the question below, I installed a 8GB M2 stick and it's working fine!

Thanks for the review, it was informative and I feel that it highlights the P1's flaws and strengths effectively. However, the lack of proper diction and the repetition of words such as "nice" made it somewhat laborious.

Dear All,
I am the owner of P1i since it's first release. Currently, I am looking for another model as well replace my P1i, however, I still think that most of phone in price around 400USD may still the same funtion as my Lovely P1i.
So far I never face any problem with my P1i even with OS or Hardware.
Sound, this the great of all functin in one phone. the MP3 is Walkman grade. The sound is clear with both RingTone and Headset.
Touch screen, it's great to say about it screen. Cuz i use chinese and English in the same time. When I use dictionary that preinstalled in the phone, it's gread to use cuz CH-ENG-CH is fix to my write chinese character.
Fun with Mod, you can mod you P1i to the W960 or iPhone theme and style. But remember that mod is risk and break you warantee perhaps.
Application, yes, this is the good application to instal. There are many various app on the Market like S60 (Nokia). Just keep in mind that if you compare the OS between UIQ3 and S60 3th, P1i UIQ3 is the winner, cuz UIQ3 is run better and fast. The most thing i notice is that UIQ3 have more function and more conveinent way to use than S60. Touch screen the good way and choice for your app third party.
Shotting Photo, it's not the Camera. But the photo from P1i is acceptable and great if we compare to anther phone. Espcially, if you compare to Nokia Camera phone this phone you should like i's quality.
WIFI, yes it's good to use, however, it's support only with b class. so you must have more experience with routor confi. My suggestion is use WAP type in your routor cuz P1i not support with complex security code.
Keyboard, yes very easy to use. What i like the most with my phone is Keyboard cuz it's the good invention from SE.
Body buid, wow this phone may make you look more professional when you hold its. Even now my friends and Co-work still say this the good phone on the sociaty even i use more than 1year.
Finally, yes 9/10. All is good just the bad thing is that wheel side now have problem it's not good work, may i need to take to SE Care centre cuz is phone have this weak wheel. have search on google most of P1i user face with bad wheel contral up and down. I hope this comment can help you to decide. If i am not wrong may current price on market is 280USD (Cambodia 11/Jan/2009). You can consider with P1i or Nokia E63 (250usd), cuz both similare function and similare purpose there on your world.

> In reply to Sir Ahsan @ 2008-10-09 21:09 from 2AdgI have to agree with you there. I have the P910i and this was the first time using this keyboard after buying the phone last month.I struggled initially but after about two weeks it became a very fast way to type.
I think the GSMArena team didn't give themselves the time on the keyboard and thus their first impressions interfered with their final judgement.

I respect the GSMArena team's review. But im wondering how could they not get used to this keyboard.
Its WONDERFUL. They look odd but its a total normal qwerty keyboard. The keys are rocker type buttons with the edges raised and it is in the end one click per letter. With the gap between two buttons and the curve in between them, wrong clicks by mistake are sooo less on this. I currently has a P990 and had a 9300 Communicator as well. This is the BEST on typing by a huge margin. The keys are raised, they register with a click easily, the rocker type key makes sure you dont get a wrong click.
I did try a Nokia E61 as well, wrong presses were more common on that than this (did this when buying, wasnt used to either of these)
I hope the GSMArena team give the keyboard another shot :)
