I dont recommend this phone to anyone. Buttons are way too small, painting wears off, phone turns off by itself, menu is slow, camera is basic quality. Software of the phone gets slower and slower (been using the phone now for 7 months). Speaker works with huge delay after switching to speaker mode. It is just as dust/splash/whateverproof as any phone at the market. Fancy battery opening system jams and battery can e changed only by using excessive force. Nice try, Sony-Ericsson, but badly failed.

In this march i bought a new C702, but it was having some manufacturing defects as whenever a song was played the song jumped/bounced. the set was very slow. And what next the LCD display was defective. so i moved to the experience store which is a service center also. They submitted that for repairing. But they could not solve all the problems. So i sent mails to the company and they call my set to the company not to replace it but to repair it (even while it was a defective set). After receiving my set back from the company after 10 days there were a lot of problems (the company added some problems to it). And now its again going to the company. The company is selling defective items and not replacing them. And the customer care is there to make you fool. so be careful.
If you have the same set then please tell me if you hear some kind of sparkling sound whenever you pause/resume or rewind/forward a song which has extra bass & beats, playing on MegaBass in Media Player.

After just 2 months of normal use, the silver color on the case is going like heal... And you will not solve anything if you use the service as solution, will say: because of normal wear take paint! SonyEricsson not want to admit that it was a manufacturing defect ........... And u can do nothing to change the phone or to get the money back!

use google maps offline on c702
i found this software which is just amazing... now you can use google maps offline.... i was searching for this for so many days and finally got it...so i want to share it with you guys
You can also use GPS on these maps (of course internet connection is required but the downloading will be very less, as you already have maps on your phone) !!
go through this website http://francois.leroux.free.fr/mgmaps/(its in french, you can translate using google translate)... download jar file of GMaps (http://wap.mgmaps.com/mgmaps.jar) and install on your mobile. Rest everything is explained in the above webpage.
If you any doubts and not able to follow, just mail me.
cheers
Abhi

Maybe updating the firmware will solve the problems.
Initially, i feel that the menus are so slow. The media menu was extremely slow.
Then i found out there's an upgrade available from the website. (You have to install the update tool first. It will automatically fetch the new upgrade.)
After the update, everything works well. Media menu speed comes to normal. Everything works beautifully. Although, there's still a bit of slowness in managing text messages. (Coming from speedy K550 usage.) But not as slow as K800.
I never experience any problem with the alarms. In my one month use, i never once encounter a hang or reboot yet. Even before the update. And i really use it full time, most often doing multi task with the GPS and internet, while receiving a lot of text and calls. Short of saying "abusive" use.
It's possible that the one i got has more updated software that corrected most of the bugs. Plus the recent update from SE site.
I've used it in heavy rain a few times. (Not intentionally.) I'm really glad that i don't have to postpone a call or to wrap it in plastic like i used to do my other phones.
The camera in mine works really well. Especially when i have to make snap shots of documents or take down some design ideas from borrowed books. Very convenient.
It's a great phone. I'm keeping this.

I somehow can;t get the alarm clock to work reliably and it reboots several times a day.
Sorry, this phone could have used another half year of testing.

I've had three of these handsets now and each has been faulty. Dead pixels featured on two of the three phones, and all three had a tendency to frequently freeze and restart, sometimes several times in a 5-minute period.
I carried over the M2 memory card from my previous phone, a K800i and in each of the three phones, the memory card reader was faulty. Songs and videos kept sticking, or jumping, sometimes leading to the phone restarting again.
The buttons are rubbish for texting and despite being marketed as a durable phone, after less than two weeks use, the screen was showing signs of scratching and the paint at the corners was beginning to wear off.
O2 are claiming this phone is "The perfect replacement for your Sony Ericsson K800i" which is quite misleading considering the flash in the 3.2 mega pixel camera is much worse than the K800i.
All this is such a shame because this is a good looking phone, one I really wanted to like and wanted to work. But there's no shying away from the fact that I was first, second and third time unlucky with the C702 and now i'm back with the trusty K800i (and the memory card is working fine).

> In reply to Anonymous @ 2008-07-10 21:54 from iE@di agree about the glitches,it's a good looking,if slightly fiddly to use phone, but once you're used to it,it's ok,
my main problem with it is that it misses alarms, shuts down randomly and is the glitchiest phone i've EVER had.
i wouldn't recommend it tbh

Alarm clock does not work. It misses alarms randomly but very often. I'm dissappointed. Need to have my old k550i as a backup, because I can not trust that c702 wakes me up on the morning.

I got it today and it's going straight back! I got it as an intended 'upgrade' from a K810i and it's anything but! There's no proper xenon flash (only a 'camera light' that has to be manually switched on every time), there's no ZOOM unless you're in VGA mode (why not in xxMP mode????!!!) and the menu scrolls very slowly compared to the K810i. Also, I fould the buttons very fiddly to use.
Although I will say it looks good, feels good and I like the idea of it being splash and dust resistant. Other than that, I can't honestly say it's any better than my beloved K810i. I think I'll be exchanging it for a K850i instead!

@Stathis:
For free maps I'll try GpsMid on C702. It's a free opensource application using the free vector map data from openstreetmap.org.

Just curious as to whether the LED flash is set up like the one on the C902 or if it's just the bog-standard SE photo-light. Would be great if its the LED photoflash from the C902....

I am a bit concerened about the GPS feature. Can I just load some free maps and use the GPS with them? I don't like that you have to be connected to the internet to use the GPS. It sounds like a trap more than a feature! Besides it looks strange that in the official SE site they don't mention GPS with big letters as one of the main features.
