nope... clamshell phones are not outdated. they are so elegant. it is whether you know how to appreciate it. the buttons are nice and evenly apart. they are very nice to press. i love how the phone can be "shaked", even when playing games. the mp3 player is superb.

Im wondering y did SE ditch the fm radio w/o headphone? R they saving it for the "touch screen walkman fone"??? This yr is not a good yr 4 SE. Hope they'll do better in future.

To Nakx as far as I know you can't. I know it is impossible to accept Bluetooth files using the external screen/keys, a bit disappointing

Do you think we'll be able to access phone functions using only the external display and buttons? Like reading messages, or viewing missed calls directly from the external screen without opening the phone? I know N76 has this function.
Also, that phone looks long when it's fully opened. Looks like around 15-20cm full length.

What a beautiful looking phone, pure elegance, like a fancy evening dress. I wish it had VoIP WiFi though. My current phone does, and the ability to make free calls and surf the net for free is unbeatable.

Why doesn't any preview/review on this site analyse sound quality is a mystery to me. I have seen 3-4 reviews of music phones and there is no mention on music quality here.
I mean, this is a music phone, and most potential buyers of W980 care MOSTLY for the sound reproduction quality (clarity, volume, bass, earphones, distortion levels, competition with Nokia, Samsung). I hope that there is such a section in the full review.
Thank you.

Uzor: You're quite right. I think that the claim that this was the first was made by somebody not so knowledgeable. It certainly wasn't a claim made by SE. LG also made at least one phone with this feature. The one I know of was a CDMA phone though.

I really dont think that this phone (the Sony Ericsson W980) is the first to feature the FM transmitter. The BenQ-Siemens EF71 has that feature.
