Sony Ericsson W980 preview: First look

Sony Ericsson W980 preview: First look - read the full textSony Ericsson W980 is among those gadgets with enough class and guts to hope for a long run in the spotlight. A Walkman-series phone, armed with 8GB of internal memory, 3 megapixel camera and a built-in accelerometer simply cannot go unnoticed. Now...

Last comment I promise but you still can't accept Bluetooth files when the flip is closed, like on W710. That is a bit of a shame

To sidneylopsides: The W is at a funny angle because when you tilt the phone it rotates the Walkman logo and the background graphic due to the accelerometer.

There's no dedicated camera key that I can find, which is a first for a high end SE phone I think...

One of the most anticipated phones of the year!

It's a shame about the FM antenna, I was looking forward to a radio without headphones.

The camera position is strange - surely it would be better on the top half like on my W710i?

Finally, I think I slightly prefer a monochrome external screen like on W710i. It's easier to see in sunlight- an enhanced version of that would have been really nice. Still, a nice looking phone.

Is it just me, or does the "W" on the outside screen rotate to be the right way up?

Please do an audio quality review this time. PLEASE. This is a freaking walkman phone. You started those audio quality tests long time and it just stopped. Honestly, these things are important. Stop making cheap quick crap reviews.

This will cost 450 euro, so people think who would buy it? W980 will fail as all latest SE phones.

I have a w910 and I find the music player laggy. Compared to a 910 how would you say the 980 is?

Hey, I wrote my comment quite cooly... Just wanted to know if the sound was any better...

Now if you want some harsh word I those too...

Firstly, this is a mid-range phone but it's a high-end one price wise, it has the old naming system and it will be accordingly priced, i.e., more pricier than W960 which was already a bit overpriced... I also have word from SE about the price and it's pricey for it's features... In short, it's not worth the price... In fact that goes for all SE phones these days... And I am SE FANBOY and not a hater but I want them to perform well and they can do so only if they have the right products as they used to have few years back...

Now, I though that the in-built FM and FM transmitter was something cool for this device and make it a bit unique too, but they just scrapped the in-built antenna in order to make the phone more crap... I mean, the phone is gonna be pricey and they are cutting features to make more money??? Sound wise, it ain't any good yet...

Also, why the hell put the crap camera UI in this pricy phone like W760 when W910 which only has a 2MP camera has a cybershot v2 look a like camera UI???

Now before saying anything to me, wait for GSM Arena's full review and then be satisfied... ;)

Hey, harry. Please calm down. This is only a preview, a first and quick look. Perhaps GSMArena will come out with a more thorough review later.

interesting mirror like front, i thought the buttons were protruding. Nice materials used and the phone looks good when closed, but i cant say the same when its open, the open design is a bit awkward! they should have used the normal flip open designs of samsung or motorola

the camera is actually not that bad

That is a big let down not having a built in antenna. Would have been so cool to listen to radio on headphones without having to have them connected to phone. Would have bought phone just for that but alas I will not be buying it... boohoo Sony E

The only thing I want to know about this phone is, VOLUME, QUALITY AND THE LEVEL OF SONIC EXPERIENCE??? As I have used it and found it lacking in all of these, I would like to know if the one GSM Arena is using has seen any improvements in this regard or not???

Nice cool features (Walkman and Interface) but I don't like the design. I would buy it if it were a candybar.
