HTC Touch HD review: Windows almighty

HTC Touch HD review: Windows almighty - read the full textThe Touch HD is storming the WinMo stage to leave a footprint the size of half the HTC portfolio. Not so long ago we saw how sexy Windows Mobile can look, now it gets multimedia hot. There’s TouchFLO 3D to roll the heavy WinMo machine into action...

I dreamed about this phone last night :) But the Touch HD wasn't black, it was in White, .... ohhhh so beautiful in White! Might there be the possibility that HTC will someday bring a "Special Collector's Edition (white)" to market?

HTC...Touch HD…touch my heart…set me free!!
So, upon ditching the SE-X1 and Android G1 after thorough, in-store tests, I put my money where my cake-hole existed and plumped for the Touch HD.
Have I been disappointed? I think not… but have ‘teamed it up’ with my dinky-funky-chunky-monkey ie Neonode N2 (see my review http://www.gsmarena.com/neonod...ews-1903.php ). I use my HD for everyday, for its sublime screen and rich set of features, my Neo for its 60g weight and ability to look through a smaller but cuter ‘window’, both utilising my SIM and16gb micro SD (you need an adaptor as the N2 is Mini) – I get the best of both worlds - like my mate said 'you gotta Megaphone and a Microphone'!! tee-hee!
Back to the HD. Following my 2.8 year-old SPV M3100’s Word, Calendar et-al synching smoothly with my sexy Dell XPS M2010 (what a machine!) was a hard task, and I sorely miss the slideout keyboard for speed-of-light text input and the sidewheel for running down lists and clicking to use (I never used the D pad). But the delicious 3.8 inch screen is the ultimate winning feature, blowing the SE-X1 into third place and the Android G1 into second. If they had brought out a Touch HD Pro with a keyboard Ida beenin gadget heaven. I wrote to them and received a polite(!) reply saying they couldn’t possibly reveal such secrets to a poor mortal such as mesen, but as they make the SE-X1 and the Android, I feel it may be a strong possibility. In the meantime, we make do…
…with smooth’n’speedy Opera T’Internet, 5MP camera (I would have preferred a flash but it’s surprisingly good indoors), GPS (great when I am up a hill [if I get a signal!]), weather (wait ‘til it rains!), radio, and a MASSIVE screen that has so much going for it that the I-Phone pales. You have to experience the 3.8 screen to realise how much bigger and sweeter it is than other ‘3 and above’ offerings; play Teeter and it’s like being on a gin diet; you’ll lose a few days (once you get past level 27 it gets reeeally interesting).
Design-wise, I just love the sleek body, the quality feel (check out the speaker grills). Music and pics are great to flick through, the supplied headphones are good but my Sennheiser CX400 budphones work a dream. To cap it all I got a fantastic deal with Orange!
Good: Screen, design shape/feel/look, interface, features as eulogised, screen, 32gb max mem, sexier than sexy, ‘mymateswantit’ (careful how you read that one) factor, and perhaps the, er, screen.

Bad: Still would like a real keyboard – the extra bulk would be worth the speed of communication, as yet I am quicker with the stylus than my fingers – the madness of it is that the accelerometer will not switch the keyboard to landscape for texting. After downloading GSen software so that it did, I ditched it as the keys were still too small. Anybody know a way round this?
The volume bar switch on the side gets pressed as soon as you place the device inside its tight suedette bag, (but the bag is great for cleaning finger marks offa the screen).

Conclusion: The best fun you can hold in your hand (almost).

So I tried this phone today.
I'm planing to buy it, but I'm only 14-teen so it would take a lot of persuasion to get it.
I can't say anything wrong about HTC, it's the best phone ever (best phone using WM).It has, what I would call a "normal" camera (actually it has quite a good camera).

> In reply to Sam N91 user @ 2008-12-03 13:57 from PWYYdude, you don't really know the first thing about these gadgets..some of them are simple phones, others are smartphones, and others are pda phones. the lg renoir is a simple phone, with a flash interface and touchscreen but you can't really install apps nor develop unless you're LG and the only software you can add are java apps..the samsung is a smartphone, it has the aweful laggie symbian and no touchscreen, while the 'HT whatever' is a PDA Phone, huge RAM, fast processor, and tones of apps. If the only thing you're interested is the camera i suggest you go buy a professional device because phones can't match that..you just can't compare as a whole the lg renoir, with the innov8 or the htc, they are different devices, with different specs and different purposes..you can compare cameras, or screens, but the target audience of those phones is completely different..

got this phone last week here in Oman--and im loving it though had to adjust--i think my iphone is better in d touch IU since i got one also.
At first i was thinking of getting the X1--but when i saw HTC HD i didnt bothered for a second thought.
I love browsing internet & this device is cool in surfing- screen & mobility.
Probably will have to get used to this phone to use it to its max potentials, besides its worth much.

hi everyone. today I put inside my touch hd a 16 GB micro sd card and the performances of the device were not affected. so u can go on with the higher capacity storage card memory without losing the proven experience offered by this device.

> In reply to Sam N91 user @ 2008-12-03 13:57 from PWYYwhy comment here about reviews for devices COMPLETELY DIFFERENT from what the HTC offers, audio quality of this will be spot on! go find a renoir or inn0v8 review elsewhere instead of flaming here :-)

I have the Diamond, but this seems to be even better phone worth going for. It is way above the I-phone, simply for the fact that it is loaded with apps, which you don't have to pay for extra (unlike the I-phone, where common software such as video recorder will cost you aditional 25$ - ridiculous). Also nicely looking are features like normal stereo jack, so you can use better headphones than those delivered, the fact that you can go with SD card, which expands the phone (which is the biggest minus on Diamond), as well as good camera, which is something surprising for the HTC. (of course, for those complaining about not having integrated flash - this is the phone not the digital camera). I don't think you can get anything better at the market right now. For those complaining about AV out I really wander how many of them actually use that feature, and for which purpose?

Have any of you actually purchased an HTC phone before?

If so, are HTC phones very delicate? I have heard that they can be damaged easily. In my opinion the features of this phone are superior to the iPhone and I would like to buy one. However, I don't think I can spend so much $$ to get a phone that can have a mishap in the near future.

So current HTC users, your feedback would be appreciated.

I've had it for a while now, and it's absolutely unbelievable. I've shown it to people who own iPhone and everyone is simply blown away by it. Touch HD is setting a new category on the market - it's called "superphone".

wow imagine going from iphone to this, its like a leap of 10 years in the specs, maybe not in the touch navigation but so much more in terms of hardware

Thanks for the review GSMArena! Shame this phone has no flash with the camera but for what it does this is nothing too bad. HTC have put together an excellent piece of kit and im looking forward to my upgrade -- might need to add on unlimited data tho =) have debated over this or iPhone but because iPhone lacks SO MANY basics I'll be all over this device like a rash!!!!!

Does it have a handsfree mic with a 3.5mm jack? (I never understand why reviews complain if there is a lack of 3.5mm jack on an SE because it is always there on the handsfree anyway).

I want to use my own headphones and use them for handsfree calling as well.
