Sony Ericsson should consider pricing their phones competitively and not rely on "brand name" status. their phones are seriously over priced compared to Nokia and Samsung...

I don't understand why people don't like SE Phones, I'll probably get a 705 in a few months, still using my w910i, I use the KD player for audio (free) its faster that pretty much any inbuilt mp3 player on any phone or indeed dedicated mp3 player, use Opera mini to browse the web and watch videos encoded using the x264 codec which look superb. Those that bash certain manufacturers generally have never owned their phones, there is a major difference between using and owning a phone. I won't knock other manufacturer's phones, I don't use them so I don't have much idea at how much they do, similarly I bet most people have no idea how much SE phones do.

It should be good selling if the price is right (below c702 and above k770)

Good preview! Thanks for calling SE phones boring and identical, but I have to say that's an understatement: if they keep following this path of putting incredibly mundane phones on the market, they're going to be gone soon (which I think is great, I really dislike SE). They're down to number 5 on the worldwide ranking, even LG has surpassed them. They keep on revealing phones that are literally exact copies of old trash (I mean, why buy a C510 if the K770 came out a year ago? Same phone!), and if they don't shape up soon they will be beaten by Alcatel ;) Why don't they try an innovative design for once? They really are digging their own grave...

> In reply to .... @ 2009-01-14 14:28 from PDPbI doubt it'll be priced at 200$ or lower at launch.
I think $300 usd is a more reasonable starting price. And will drop down to $180 in a year?
Just my guess.

> In reply to Gotta buy C510 @ 2009-01-14 12:23 from ji{Rthere is no doubt you have a point mate. with these specs it's realy a challenge for SE to make it affordable, but how affordable is affordable? maybe less than 200$ you think?. if it only had xenon flash there's no doubt it will be on top of my list but nonetheless if it's less than 200$ it's realy worth it.

Hello guys. I am really getting this handset. If only it had Wi-Fi, then it will sure draw some serious competition against E51, i550w and N78 (but without counting the S60 OS, that is).
But then again, Wi-Fi is too much to ask in what they call as the "cheapest-Cybershot-ever" handset. So Wi-Fi should be excluded on your wish lists and make no mistake about that.
But actually, I doubt (and I mean real doubt) if this C510 will make its way to be on a price the same like the current price of the K770.
Just take a closer look at these specs:
1. 2.2 inch screen
2. Accelerometer
3. 3.15 Megapixel Autofocus Camera with LED flash
4. QVGA video recording at 30 frames per second
5. Face Detection, Smile Detection and Geo-tagging via cell triangulation
6. Tri band HSDPA.
Got my point?
Don't you think that those features are a bit high to be thrown to the midrange?? I mean, come on people! Even the expensive C905 also records at QVGA 30 FPS, has a 2.4 inches screen estate (which is just 0.2 inch smaller than the C510 which is what they call as affordable?). And another thing of note is that, even the C902 which by the way is expensive as of the moment, is only gifted with a 2 inches screen? (sounds strange isn't it?) Anyway, I know some of you are laughing at what my point is. But the fact that SE rarely load all of these in a so-called "affordable" handset led me into pondering all over.
So I'm hoping that SE will mark their word on their statement that this handset will be positioned as an affordable Cybershot. And please GSMArena, publish the price of this phone via your news section as soon as you gather info with regards to pricing of this handset. Because it seems like, I am getting paranoid on these features to be ever taken into consideration in an affordable handset.
Now don't get me wrong here. If ever it will be a midrange or an upper-midrange handset, I will still get this phone because of its feature load and I'm also hoping that the LED flash of this phone can also serve as a video light.

Its all about the gimmicks.

> In reply to Gentleman Vegetables @ 2009-01-12 13:37 from uBZ7Technically sony ericsson had already released a cyber-shot with 3x optical zoom. The only bad thing about it, is that it was released exclusively in Japan.
The thing why sony ericsson is having a hard time these days is because sony and ericsson are not cooperating well unlike in the days of k800i or T610i which are really innovative phones.

> In reply to bummy @ 2009-01-12 09:51 from QD4%[Q]"cutting edge phones" is just another way of saying gimmick phones. Thats the reason why HTC, Samsung and LG have been doing so well in the past year.[/Q]
Let's face it mate - sales figures are what really count in this industry. You either sell it or make way for someone else who'll sell something better at a cheaper rate. HTC has never done better in its LIFE than it did this past year while Samsung has been the only manufacturer to give Nokia a real run for its money. In case you weren't aware, there have been more top-selling Samsung units than Nokias in the highly competitive UK market.
[Q]But when it comes to quality build, and user experience, I can only recommend c905. But you can't really brag about that now can u?[/Q]
Are you saying that the C905 running a dumbed-down feature phone platform (A200) is better than a full blown S60v3FP2 phone like the Innov8? Mate you're out of your mind!
I'm a true blue SE fan (been using one since the days of the T68i) but when it comes to build quality, the Innov8 is better than the clunky slider of the C905. I'm not saying this myself. Go check one out yourself.
I think what everyone's trying to ask for is better optics and a bigger screen and not necessarily 12MP units since that's just overkill. I mean a C905 with a 2.6" screen and 3x optical zoom would be a common's man Bond phone. Nokia and Samsung have done it in the past, so why can't SE?
