Nokia 5800 XpressMusic review: Young as you feel
It's touchscreen o'clock for Nokia and the stage is set for the 5800 XpressMusic. Go ahead and touch it. We did and we've got a story to tell. Now, it's technically not the first time Nokia get their hands dirty with touch screens, but it sure feels they really mean business this time. For Nokia 5800 is not the only story here...

Hi Folks, I bought Nokia 5800 ExpressMusic in June 2010. Hv been using fr abt 3 months as of today. I regret buying this piece @ Rs.13500. Strongly feel not worth the money. Would hv been better off with Motorola or Sony Ericsson pieces (I used both the brands earlier and feel betr with Moto ROKR E6 compared to 5800).
I feel the 5800 xpresmusic bad on the below points.
1. Hangs up frequently during incoming calls only... while disconnecting.
2. User interface is slow and not so user friendly.
3. The ear phone piece supplied with the handset is of the cheapest quality. You need to buy another high quality headset for good quality music output.
4. The flash is causing an orange spot in the pictures taken with the flash on. Nokia Care people in adyar Chennai said thats not their fault n i wil hv to buy the back panel on my own (during warranty period :-( ).
5. There is no option to operate the camera without the shutter sound. Nokia feels everyone should know when we use our mobile camera.
6. The data cable supplied with the handset is hardly 10cms long. Not at all conveneint to connect either to PC or Lappy.
7. There should have been an option to use the volume control keys while the instrument is locked. Useful while driving. another button to change station (FM) or song while on the drive (without unlocking the phone) would have been great value addition.
8. Overall, i had great expectations on the piece seeing the name. but any other sony ericsson walkman series phones do a lot better than this stupid 5800 expressmusic.
I gave only the negatives points here. The good points are expected from Nokia and need no specific mention here.
OVERALL ... NOT THE BEST PIECE in its class. Try other peices too before buying this one.
Thank you.
Thank you.

I have had this phone for almost a year--the worst purchase I ever made.It reboots by itself. I have given it to Nokia Care more than 7 times. It has been to Delhi more than 5 times but it comes back with the same problem. Nokia's attitude towards customers is pathetic. Please please do not suffer like I am doing.

i bought this mobile last week and due to upgrade OS version. i am facing few problems like battery drain quickly(1 day) and mobile went off few times. i need to remove d battery to give life again for mobile.
Whether these problems will be solved by latest firmware update ?
what is the best way to update firmware ie, thru mobile itself using gprs(or wifi) or using pc with nokia suit ?

Nokia 5800 Xpress Music is the best phone ever by Nokia. I have been using this handset for 6+ months and i m fully satisfied with it. Its the best "Value for Money" handset. The only trouble is with the OS version, once that is updated with the latest OS the phone is fantastic...i would give 9/10 to this handset and highly recommend this handset.

I am hoping anyone with an expertise of using this phone can help me with my "problem", though how minor it is.
The two apps (Mobixplorer and X-plore) reports that my CPU is only 192MHz, when this GSMArena review and every review out there says this phone is already clocked at 434MHz with the latest firmwares. I have an update firmware of v.50 already(which is the latest) but when I looked at the device info of those two apps on my system it still says 192MHz. Even though I "feel" my phone did get faster after the two previous updates (v.31 and v.40), this fact still bothers me, not that it is affecting the speed of my phone, which in reality it does not. Can anyone throw light at my confusion. Thanks!

You got a defective unit. I also bought mine last December 2009, and it has not given me any problem. Everything are working smoothly, even the firmware updates. I had tons of apps installed and uninstalled, and wallpapers and music. Can't get enough, not to mention numerous themes.
One thing I hate is that I can't delete themes directly on the phone interface. It has simply no options to delete themes, when most of them doesn't appear on the installed application viewer. I have to attached my phone to my pc and search for the folder that contains the theme files and manually delete them, which is risky and might corrupt the system.

> In reply to Disappointed Custome @ 2010-04-20 16:20 from LL1f - click to readI've had my Nokia 5800 for 8 months now. I'm still enjoying it. It does rarely reboots once every two months, if I am using it heavily with many open apps. But it doesn't bother me at all. Maybe you got a defective unit, and can demand a replacement.
With all the firmware updates, Nokia support is awesome in this regard. I don't know yet about the hardware support they give to defective units. My phone is still working fine up to this day. I hope your problem be solved as soon as possible.

> In reply to Disappointed Custome @ 2010-04-20 16:20 from LL1f - click to readNo offense but that is a childish way of looking at things. Just because you were one of the unlucky souls that happened to get that defective 0.1% from the 10.000 pieces doesn't make the manufacturer guilty. It's just the rules of chance. So many factors come into play that you can get a new anything, right out of the box and it won't work. For example, there's a company in the US (I forgot their name) which makes cheap, new, with warranty 17' LCDs but after 6-8 months most of the LCDs don't power up. The hardware is fine : it's a programming bug that makes the power button useless and so, the monitor remains powered down.
The same goes with your phone. Treat it as a PC : hardware-wise, there's nothing wrong with it. Software wise (and this is where the human-element comes in, meaning mistakes), it's still an operating system by all means and it can fail.
