Actually, this is probably the best phone on the market as far as price / ratio is concerned.

Its price has gone down considerably and it is a handy phone, not too bulky, with a brilliant, crisp and vivid high resolution screen, full of great specs which will stand the test of time.

Obviously, this is not the world's best phone.
Better phones are constantly coming out, so you have to make your decisions according to the moment when you're buying and the money you have/wish to spend.

That is why this phone is great. I admit it should have a 3.5mm audio jack and that is a serious fault, but other than that, it does everything you need, it allows you to watch movies, enjoy your songs, take quite good occasional photos and use GPS, all in a very handy "package".

As I've mentioned, the screen is great and you have loads & loads of software to load...

So, as far as Software and OS are concerned, you've got LOTS & LOTS of compatible applications, games and GPS Programmes, and,
the last, but by no means, the least, you've got...

http://wiki.xda-developers.com...me=HTC_Topaz

... where you can exchange experiences, opinions, learn A LOT and personalise your phone in a way you wouldn't imagine! :)

That is why I own an HTC Diamond2 and I'm really very happy with it!!!

AVOID HTC MOBILES!!!!
The worst customer service, the worst mobiles! burn pixels on new mobiles from the first day I opened the box, big delays in everything you want to do with the mobile, after 3 months the mobile stuck and it couldn't get the signal from my provider no one could call me and I couldn't call at the end after 8 months the whole screen stuck and I couldn't even see my calls and contacts or send a message! The service in Greece is not take over the responsibility the only thing they are doing is to fix the damage and send me back the same mobile after 2 times service, 1 hard reset and 2 soft resets! No one from the company could help me to solve the problem! I lost all my contacts and emails 3 times! I charge my account several times for hours trying to speak with their service and no one was able to help!!!! The only the can do again is to fix the damage and send me back the same device after 3 huge problems I faced with it in less than a year!
It is like I put 460 euros in the garbage!!! Do not hesitate to contact me for any further info! PLEASE DO NOT TRUST THIS COMPANY!
My mobile was the HTC DIAMOND 2.

Hi,i'm thinking of buying a new HTC smartphone as i have never been a HTC user before. Can i know which smartphone is better, HTC Touch Diamond 2 or HTC touch 2? i saw the previous comments of HTC TD2 and it seems that many people are not quite satisfy with this phone as compare to HTC touch 2 quite a number of people suggest others to buy that phone. i'm thinking of buying HTC TD2 more than HTC touch 2 just because of the bigger screen size. can someone give me some suggestions? Thanks:)

> In reply to PP @ 2009-08-22 16:54 from fXY7 - click to readHello,
I had the same problem with the numbers not recognized.
I solved it only by a hard reset. Take care that you loose all your customizations. I had 2-3 numbers not recognized: my boss (!) and a beautiful blond :).
I had my contacts synchronized by Active Sync first. I strongly suggest that you do so.

I'm having a seriously concerning problem with my touch diamond 2 (which is 4 days old)...

It won't recognize messages sent, and calls received from numbers that I have saved under my contacts - when i receive a call or a text from these individuals the caller identity simply labels it as a new number, even though it's already saved on the phone! - and this problem isn't even consistent, sometimes it happens, sometimes it doesn't!
s, some

Not sure whether this is a WinMo problem, or an issue specifically of this handsets - but its an incredibly poor problem, which needs resolving.

"And you can't set an alarm and then turn the phone off, (like the Nokia's). The phone has to stay on, wasting 7-8hrs of battery, in order for the alarm to wake you up"

Really?!?

My original diamond, and come to think of it every Win Mo device I've owned, can do this - I would be extremely surprised if HTC dropped the ball like that on the Diamond 2. Suggest you read the manual...

Further to my comment below, I decided to buy the Diamond 2 and solved the problems.

The camera works fine, you just need to hold it straight to avoid problems of strange angles in the picture. The missing flash is not a real problem because you can adjust the luminosity and contrast and thereby take pictures indoors without at flash. No problemo....

I solved the problem of the missing M- key on the calculator by finding a different way to change numbers from positive to negative. You just need to click the minus key once and then click the equals key = twice. That converts any number in the display from positive to negative.

The problem of the missing 3.5 mm jack is easily solved by buying a short adapter plug for a few Euros or dollars and presto, the miniUSB plug can be used with a normal 3.5 miniJack plug.

With those problems solved, there's no downside to this phone, and lots of advantages. The battery life is not as long as that on my former pda, but that's the case of all smartphone batteries. A vehicle that is simultaneously a car, an airplane, a boat, a snowmobile, a bulldozer etc will naturally use more fuel that a vehicle that is just a car. The solution is to charge the battery more often (it automatically charges when hooked up to your pc) or just buy an extra battery. they're small and thin and easily portable.

compare this phone with other smartphones, and you'll be impressed.

Great review, thanks. Other reviewers said the Diamond 2 didn't have Year or Week views in the calendar, but you astutely pointed out that it's still there in the Windows mode.

Two small worries -

a) The sample camera pics in your review seem to indicate that the Diamond 2 pics suffer from straight-line distortion. The vertical lines on each side of the pics seem to curve/lean out to the edge at the top. A shame. Someone said there are software download patches to correct this, but I don't know where to look.
Has anyone tested the D2 camera by photographing a test grid of crossed lines?

b) The calculator doesn't seem to have a M- key or a +/- key. That's bizarre because those are basic needs for the cumulative memory in a calculator. When adding up expenses or other budget items, you keep putting them into M+ while calculating new items, but occaionally you need to substract something from the cumulative memory, and that's when you use Memory subtract (M-) key or alternatively you change the sum to minus with the +/- key and tehn add it to the Memory as a negative number (thereby subtracting it). Has anyone tested the calculator? I suppose I can always download a free one that has the missing buttons.

I'll probably buy the Diamond 2 because I'm tired of waiting years for the phone the Has It All. This comes close enough on all the important points with good quality on most. Not too big and heavy, not too small. It has Windows and Adobe so I can download and read lots of business docs while travelling. Google maps is really handy in foreign cities. And it has good music quality if I just buy an inexpensive little adapter to make my 3.5 headset plug fit the miniUSB on the D2.
