jess, 14 Oct 2009Sorry, but you applied the wrong tag/stereotype. I am not a 'blind Nokia fan' I'm actually a D... moreHere we go again. Another believer of an OS that hasn't been released yet. Android, WebOS, and now winmo 6.5 enthusiasts also thought that their OS shows so much promise, but after it's released, no major impact, and the iphone's osx still ruled. So save it.
Win os 7 is coming out sometime next year so it can compete with exitising smartphones...
lol by the time it does get released the other so called OS will still kick winmo 7 ass's as it will be too old LMFAO!
Made by Microsoft - Fail! Will be full of bugs and crash every 5 mins like everything else they touch.
All smartphone operating systems are currently in a state of rapid change as digital integration and always on connectivity places more demands on software and hardware. Consumer expectations for a logical user interface should also be an influence.
Within this background it is imperative that Windows Mobile 7 be a totally fresh approach with code written from the start for mobile platforms and must be a break from past versions which have not moved on considerably in terms of functionality from Windows 5.0 and 6.0. It is unfortunate that the company that is capable of producing excellent, practical and flexible software for the main computing market has not offered the same for the mobile environment. Windows 7 as many are saying is make or break. However, should Microsoft decide to abandon offering its own OS it will remain in the mobile environment such as through its recent strategic partnership announcement with Nokia for its Office Suite. The next two years will bring many changes.
That likes! if your Windows Mobile 6.5

REY, 12 Oct 2009 still cannot support 16 million colors????..only 65k colors??? ..still bad.buy Multimedia Smart OS [for now Symbian S60 but in year 2010 Symbian Open Source] if you want better hardware
I have a hard time seeing where the 'quality' Windows Mobile apps are. Every mobile app I've seen on WinMo that has equivalents and versions on other platforms are almost better in those platforms. The most glaring example are the mobile Facebook apps, where WinMo has the worst, whereas iPhone, Blackberry seems to have the best, and Symbian V5 and Android not bad. Another example are Twitter apps, they're every bit better on other platforms like Gravity on Symbian and Tweetie 2 on the iPhone.
Anonymous, 12 Oct 2009Huh? You said that maemo seems to fit the bill quite well as the more complete mobile OS? Why... moreSorry, but you applied the wrong tag/stereotype. I am not a 'blind Nokia fan' I'm actually a Debian enthusiast and supporter' and have had a bit of experience with Maemo Diablo for some months now. Having a mobile OS that manages to keep a lot of the functionality of a solid GNU/Linux distro is the key here. I'm not sure how the official software repositories will be like for Maemo 5, but that really doesn't bother me that much... You might like to see what great software has been compiled and ported to Diablo, and I'm sure the same will happen in Freemantle. The possibility of installing full ARM Debian on your device is. in itself, a very interesting possibility. Some people have even talked about the possibility of porting full OpenOffice.org suite to the N900. I am very skeptical about this last part, becaŭse I don't believe the N900 has the hardware to run it, but the OS itself can certainly handle it. With all the great open-source code out there, I'm sure that Linŭ-kernel-based mobile OS's are destined for some good things. Maemo just happens to be, IMHO, a much more capable OS than what I have seen from LiMo or WebOS.
I was a winmo fan and an apple disbeliever for years. But a short time ago I held an apple iphone and played with it for an hour and suddenly understood that this company actionally is almost the only company in the mobiles world that understands how human brains function and therefore how a comfortable user interface. Therefore it is also amazing how they managed to make a (admit it) flawless and fluid electronic piece of equipment for it (you can measure this by reading in reviews that "LG manages to make the screen gesture reaction ALMOST as fluid as the iphone". Talking bout references.... So I also suddenly understood that all the other companies are struggling around, completely missing the point in UI's but strangely also regarding hardware. And guess what.. Microsoft announces Winmo 6.5 and 7 with a lot of noise and, I almost cannot believe it, it will still not meet the excellence of the apple phenomenon. Now don't take me wrong, I still feel sympathy for the HTC-Winmo combination I was a fan of for long times. But I learned to deeply respect the unrivaled wonder the apple people created with the Iphone. HTC, Samsung, LG, Nokia, you still have a long way to go and you should be ashamed about your performance by a maybe 30 times bigger budget!

Nokia blind fans just do not make any sense.
Heh, WinMo and mighty 65k colours and it's only 2009...thank god we have Maemo and N900!
still cannot support 16 million colors????..only 65k colors???
Winmo is a solid pocket computer OS that tries to integrate a mobile OS. While the others are simply mobile OS that tries to become a solid smartphone.
So in which direction are you?

Anonymous, 12 Oct 2009WM 6.5 is really disappointed. For me, no more WM anymore as they don't really care about us.What is WM so disappointed about?
You say those mean WinMos don't care about you? They're so mean!
WinMo 6.5 is, essentially, all I expected it to be... More junk from Microsoft. Symbian is feeling a bit dated, iPhone fails to impress me as a smartphone (but rocks as a media-centric user-friendly phone), and Android needs a bit more. I'm still unsure about LiMo or WebOS. But Maemo 5 seems to fill the bill quite well.
winmo 6.5, while not being the step up everyone was hyped to see, is still a solid OS.
i have recently gotten a Touch Diamond 2 and upgraded to winmo 6.5, and i must say that i rather like the aesthetic adjustments they made. i was never expecting any more than that. instead i got windows marketplace, microsoft myphone, and a now very easily thumable OS that has the open platform support like no other phone OS in existence.
though i do get a feeling that winmo7 is gonna bring out the new features, maybe the whole 7 at the end of it, and not a 6.
