Nokia N900 review: A new hope

Nokia N900 review: A new hope - read the full textIt’s crystal clear by now that the Nokia N900 has almost nothing to do with the traditional Nseries values. The full QWERTY side-slider may look similar to its double-digit mates but the Maemo experience is completely different...

Although it might be picky, but this review lacks the mention of Bounce Evolution!

>Portrait and landscape mode aren't automatically alternated, despite >the built-in accelerometer.
In the Foto app, they are in the - but only in fullscreen mode (tap the pic)

PS: and a unit converter is also available :-)

>No voice recorder
Wrong, there is already a free 3rd party software available.

>No FM radio application (despite that the hardware's there)
Wrong, there is already a free 3rd party software available.

>Limited third-party software availabilty
Please don't doublebash the N900 :-) The two items above prove that there is a very active developer community quickly bringing out the needed apps.

I read the whole review and i have to say it's kinda of a anti-climax after i was finished, was left feeling disapointed. No MMS, No Equilizer presets, Only landscape view, bad video camera and videorecording etc etc the list goes on. I was looking forward to buying new a Nokia device. First the X6 disapointed me with it's price and now this. Concidering leaving the Nokia clan to exploer better possibilities.

Nice, but it's still a promise.

And I hate to buy the egg when it's still inside the chicken.

But it seems I have no choice.

A step in the right direction, but I still wish for something more compact, with a good (and not dumbed-down) photo/video functionality, handwriting recognition and good battery.

Will see what the Droid is about - even though it's a Motorola. And the X10 - even though it's a SE;)

lots of lots of reviews, previews have done.I think n900 is really a big step ahead in the mobile technology with its Maemo5.But long way to go......sorry to say.

just waiting patiently for it to be shipped from Nokia sales (uk). It only having an average camera doesn't bother me as I reckon over 90% of pictures taken are for facebook, flikr and the like. I doubt that many pictures taken on a phone are actually printed.

I'm tired of reading reviews where a product is dinged for not having cover flow like photo and album art viewing. When did flashiness for the sake of flashiness become more important than simply getting the job done? Does it look nice? Sure it does but it doesn't make the tech any easier to use. I own an iPhone and cover flow gets very little use from me. Why? Because 90% of the time I'm listening to a playlist or simply search for the song I want and play it. When viewing photos it's the same process. I truly hate the direction in which mobile tech is going lately.
