Bro, 01 Jul 2010hi sir Damian I just wanna know if it can support HDMI to VGA using adaptor? so I can use it i... morere HDMI to VGA. Good question. Not tried it. The connector on the N8 is a HDMI-c connector otherwise known as HD mini. In the box is an adaptor which allows you to use a standard HDMI cable if you already have one not being used. Alternatively you can purchase HDMI-c to standard HDMI cables. I'm using one that's 2m in length. The N8 will output a 720p signal with digital audio. You'll need a HDMI to VGA adaptor which also provides an audio output as well. I need to look into whether the N8 needs to detect an HDMI device before entering HDMI mode or not. Will come back to this once I've checked that.

Question here..
Is that n8 symbian^3 will support the installation of symbian 5rd application & games??? Since the resolution of n8 is same like 5800
I would really like to know why it cant record 30fps
Borat, 25 Jun 2010I have only one question for you mister Damian: Is the N8 image sensor backlit? No it's not back illuminated sensor.

The blue colour of n8 looks special not like other phone black or silver in colour. When it will release in market??? Can't wait to get it.
I think n8 sensor is not backlit. And also I think backlit sensor doesn't make a lot different for better quality image.. even the DC that using backlit sensor ofor me still producing 'bad' result as compare to better sensor without backlit or even larger sensor in DSLR.

Sorry for doubting you at the first place and not being too polite in my writing.
Thanks for your answer!
It was hard to believe that a high profile person like you will answer each and every question here in the forum.
I think this is the different between Nokia and other brands.
Nokia's really care about their customer.
GSMArena has remove the "video light" from the N8 spec sheet.
However, its not a deal breaker.
N8 still able to shoot great videos in low light condition.
I will definitely grab a blue N8 once its launch.
Thanks again and have a great weekend!
:)

Of course NOT.

sad to hear a news that n8 will going to be the last N-series having symbian platform.. does this mean symbian cannot do better (faster & better performance) after upgrade to even symbian^3 & need to change platform to MeeGo??? Will MeeGoo do better in term of speed & performance as compare to symbia^3 in n8??? Is there any possibilities for n8 to upgrade its system platform to symbian^4 or even MeeGo???
Damian Dinning, 24 Jun 2010Hi,
yes it really is me and I'm afraid I even look like the picture in the interview.
Th... moreEven though i read the GSMarena pages since a few years now, this is my first ever comment here, and I'm doing it just to express my kudos for Mr. Dinning's work so far on the N8 camera and also to thank him for taking so much from his precious time to answer peoples questions regarding N8, here and on various other online places.
You don't see very often this care for the customer coming from someone involved so deep in the production of a product.
For what is worth, i will certainly buy this phone, because I'm convinced it will fulfill all of my needs for a portable device.
Thank you again and keep up the good work!
Best wishes,
Flaviu from Romania

Thanks for pointing out the errors in our web material. I'll make sure someone addresses those ASAP.
To confirm the situation. The Nokia N8 uses xenon flash for stills. There is a small amber coloured LED by the side of it which is used as an assist lamp for autofocus in low light/darkness as well as a privacy indicator and tally lamp.

P.S. It usually takes quite a lot to offend me so don;t worry, but you may find some of the other questions/answers elsewhere on this thread also of interest to you.
@ Damian:
Ok Sir, I got it... One more thing- Can N8 support manual shutter speed?
I mean, I like artistic night photography, and if I want very long (2/ 5/ 10 seconds) shutter opening time, is it possible?
You know how some photographers show night time city with moving lights of cars, etc. in one image...
(I can arrange a tri pod or something myself, but the set should support the long timing)

I don't think it is professional enough that you are explaining the specs in this comments section without putting a proper article.
You are saying that there is no video light to support the video shooting. This is totally contradict with the spec sheets from both Europe and Singapore Official Nokia Website. Both sites has actually stated that there is a video light setting for video shooting.
How can you explain this?
Is Nokia Official website expecting people to take legal actions on them for giving false information on their product?
So if you are real Damian Dinning and whatever you said in here is true, I think you should put up an official article with GSMArena to clear all the myth.
Sorry if i offended you. But I think profesionalism is important for a high profile person like you.
Samarth INNOV8 User, 23 Jun 2010Thanks Sir. I got it. But, you did not tell about its shutter timings, under normal mode &... moreit doesn't make any difference whether you use sports or auto. The shutter speed should can be fast enough to freeze most objects assuming you are shooting in bright light. The main benefit of sports mode is that it uses hyperfocal distance therefore meaning you only have the shutter lag of 150ms meaning you can capture images faster than the average human can react, so now you are the weak link in the chain for a change :)
Thanks Sir. I got it.
But, you did not tell about its shutter timings, under normal mode & minimum possible time under a sports mode or so, if any?
