kevinkyle, 29 Sep 2012i never thought there would be a review of the iphone5 - that is not afraid to be brutally hon... moreI do have to question as to why "The new display is not proportionally bigger, but only taller" made the cons list. GSMarena's has a bias towards massive phones. It is silly for a phone site to act like a large screen fanboy and put such a comment as a con.
Why didn't the comment about the lack of customisation available in the UI make the cons list instead?
They mention it on page 4 "Although it's a standard-setting homescreen, it is not absolutely impossible to improve on - widgets, for one, could have made the right difference for some users." but it didn't make the cons list?
It is arguably the biggest drawback of the iPhone.
But yes, good review GSMarena.
GSM Arena ,
i found that , still missing highlight the IOS 6 Safari feature , which can upload photo directly in safari Browser which shown on Apple presentation Keynote on July !
guys !!! u all still remember this ?
i never thought there would be a review of the iphone5 - that is not afraid to be brutally honest. calling out both the pros and cons of the smartphone...unlike other tech site's review - they read like an obsessive fan mail for the iphone(engadget, slashgear, cnet, gizmodo etc. - congratulations GSMARENA_
Great hardware. The apps centric UI will never be for me and as someone who was in this market from the start I can't bring myself to support the company that turned this into the law suit industry.
Google are a dodgy company pretending to be your friend but tricking you and tracking you at every step to sell everything about you they can get their hands on. The main companies in this game are not great.
Apple still make better hardware than any one else (well phones like the Sony Xperia SX are great but if you give 99% of the World the middle finger by not selling them a comparable device then they don't don't count).
If only you could buy iPhone hardware and then put some non apps centric and non intrusive operating system on it. Why don't Apple offer a more configurable UI.
Remember people, don't be a fanboy or things won't improve.
Excellent review GSM Arena. There were always great expectation for this device, as you mention. I suppose a question is are our expectations too high. Everyone now continually expect great advances, or some points of difference. Frankly there is insufficient focus on functionality and purpose , and too much focus on benchmarks and “smoothness of the OS”. I would rather see far greater business integration, less social network rubbish, and more timesaving personal usage products. I feel there is a great opportunity for WP8 if they get it right. Android is like a toy but every toy becomes boring very quickly. If WP8 is decent, it will naturally cut into the Android market first, and then into the Apple market. After the initial buying of new toy frenzy, Apple will have a flat market demand problem they will have to address in the next 6 months.
Is the iPhone 5 is excellent or not that's not the matter today, the matter is you have done an excellent job with your review. Cheers!
Anonymous, 29 Sep 2012A common man using a phone dont give a c*** about bench marking or screen technology. A common... moresorry dude getting a $700 phn where the OS is total nonsense(WP8) is just like flushing bucks in toilet.....for $700 one can get all round balanced phn its not just camera camera camera...u talking ABT display?! HTC one X got a looker of a display ,iP5's display is already a benchmark setter + one can get all sorts of apps, hacks, unlimited tweaks by choosing either Android or iOS but a WP8 phn for $700..sorry boss thats not digestable
The best smartphone till date for sure! iOS Maps may have issues but the map interface is just brilliant!! Apple Rules
Great review. Its been a journey reading your article. Like reading a comic book or something. I like when you put some extra twists and whatnot in every section and that you guys can maintain neutrality in the highest professional level. My favorite part is of course your first page introduction, the benchmarks and the conclusions. Well worth reading. I ditched my other tech review site for gsmarena, and its been a great read especially in my lunch time where I do all of my reading on my humble Galaxy Note while having my favorite Double cheeseburger down my MickeyD restaurant.
Once again great review!
I used to love Apple
I wanted to keep loving it...but not anymore..
I just confirmed another issue with Iphone 5camea
You may ask why I keep checking on Iphone5 if I don't like it.
My answer is: I am not like an Apple fanboy. I am a samrtphone fanboy including Apple product with very objective point of view.
I did have a lot of respect to Iphone but now I am even kind of pissed off by what they did.
They just ruined its prestige making me AntiApple and really sad...
Great review. This is journalism at it's finest. Much much better than the trash sites like BGR and Gizmodo put out. In fact those sites shouldn't even be considered as tech sites.
Props to gsmarena.
I'm apple user from last three years and I do not have any complain....
The most honest website and true to it's belief..thanks for giving such a balanced truthful review. You have touched the thoughts of millions of geeks and won many fans over today
Your claim that the nano sim card needs to be 'thin out' but my nano sim card was cut and simply slotted into my iPhone5 64GB. No thinning done.
Gsmarena is the bomb, very good unbais reviews... seen others on the net which were obviously umm in favor of apple should I say...
Telling us how it is!! High five!
Please GSMARENA, do audio test to PMPs, in this case to the ipod, to see if it's really the same sound as the iphone, and please test other audio players (Sansa, Irio, Creative Zen ...) since NO OTHER site that I know do objective audio tests.
For the ipod, some camera tests would be fine also...
PS. For camera please do truly low light like the last in Engadget.
