You have a choice of going for smaller screens like 3" screens with the old TFT or even LCD types. So, to you 7" to 10" tablets aren't riduculously big because of what, they're tablets? And those have cellphone functions too! Again, stop thinking about the Note as being a regular cellphone.
Obviously you see no personal reason for a bigger screen usage. Your personal choice should not be a basis from discouraging what others really want and need. You figure it out what it is that we do with a capacitive-active S Pen integrated 5.5" HD Super AMOLED screen, with a powerful processor and GPU, and the convenience that it gives from what we pay the cellular companies for. Try doing those with a tiny screen!

I saw the display phone today. Ridiculous, ridiculous size.
Between late 90's to early 00's, every phone manufacturers that I know tried to make smaller(compact) and slimmer.
I swear one day I saw the cartoon on the newspaper that mocks those insanity of phone manufacturers by predicting the people will use a magnifying glass to type the text on the phone, because the keyboard is too small!
...and now they are in war which company makes a bigger screen?
I mean no one cares about pixel density before the media builds a massive hype about it, because the consumers know that 20' hd(1920x1080) monitors are less than 200 ppi.
When LG(I'm sure it was LG) released a full metal phone and I know any critics talk about this ambiguous "premium feeling" of material.
Those display size war, build quality war, pixel density war are absolutely beyond me. Why don't companies just focus on what we need - solid, longer lasting phone?
Nokia made dull and same looking phones over a decade but they were successful, because they made solid phones.

You know, Samsung releases this few months afterter the s3. Now that all s3 users already did or upgrade with or survive provider, who is left to buy this, the rich? They should have released s3 and note same time so they target two audiences tithe same time and not one at a time months apart. I state this because I don't know how I will get the note 2 now :( even though I love my s3!!!!

> In reply to Anonymous @ 2012-10-04 11:10 from K7c{ - click to readWe all seem to remember Steve Jobs shamelessly saying they have "stolen" the best ideas to come up with the iPhone. Yes, concepts from Windows Mobile, the concept of the touch screen, icons and integrations of digital organizers with phone functions. Even the concept of video playback capabillities was taken from Motorola. HTC is trying to replicate the success the Galaxy Note. Nokia is getting back in the game with the smooth animation interface speed of the iPhone. Motorola and Sony are trying to replicate the fixed battery and non-card slots concept of the iPhone.
In fact, every portable gadgets are based on the discoveries, innovations and inventions of the type writer, electricity, microprocessor, basic computer language, light bulb, television, telephone, pager, diary planner, and so on.
So, why are you complaininng?!

Why are there so many negative comments about the S-Pen? People who don't like it don't need to use it. The large screen means the Note 2 is one of the best touch screens even idf the S-Pen is never used.
However for people with an open mind, the S-Pen is a great addition. As someone who already has 2 Wacom devices- a Lenovo Tablet PC and a Wacom Intuous Tablet, I have been waiting for a phone with a well implemented Wacom stylus. This is invaluable to me in business. Everyday I have to mark up / annotate several PDFs. Whilst I will still mainly use my Tablet PC, being able to annotate documents while on the move using the Note 2 is a huge benefit to me and my business.
