Sony Ericsson K800 review: Digicam in disguise

Sony Ericsson K800 review: Digicam in disguise - read the full textSony Ericsson K800 is one of the handsets we were so anxious to test that we could hardly wait for the phone to be brought in the office. Its highly advertised Cyber-shot camera made us as restless as kids on Christmas morning. Once we got it and before we started working on this review we spent a good deal of time experimenting with the exciting 3.2 megapixel camera. Not that we haven't seen a better camera, no! The thing is that this good camera just happens to be a good mobile phone, too.

I've had this thing for a week now. The features on the phone are top notch. My one greatest rumble with this phone is the joystick. It is insanely fustrating to use. For example, when i go too far down the contact list, i have to hold the joystick for one second for it to go up and sometimes its skips a contact by going up more than one at a time. Has anyone experienced this problem?

LebPrince,

Go with the k800i. Trust me. You won't regret it. Let me give you 2 simple reasons why.

1) You won't ever need anything other than a good MP3 and a good camera. All the so called "cool" features, most consumers never ever used. And btw, the camera on the k800 is fantastic.

2) It's cheaper. Let's face it, in 2 years, you will change the phone. Buy SMART.

Hey i got my phone the 3rd week of july 2006. I am proud to say that i am the only one in Montreal who have this phone.Originally i was a Nokia user, but eversince i baught the p910i ( which decieved me because of its crappy battery , ive decided to take a shot at SE. The first second i saw some pictures of the K800i, i fell in love and i wanted the phone badly. What can i say, its the best phone ive ever purchased and invested in. The battery is amazing long battery life, the camera is extraordinary and every single feature of this hot phone are amazing. To top it off, id give this phone 15 / 10 amazing,.

Hi! I got my phone last friday and Im ultra satisfied with it, this is my fist SE phone, since i was a nokia user before, and man! this thing is great... I didnt expect it to have such an affordable price ( considering the specs ) compared to N80 that costs more than $100, which the only different difference is WLAN and EDGE, which I think i will not actually need.

When I got the phone, it wasnt even in the Sony-ericsson shop yet ( i was told it will be available next MONTH! ) every friend that sees my phone was in AWE of the cybershot phone (even my friend with an N80).

Picture quality is superb! Imaging functions are cool. messaging is good. Media player is Great, considering that its not walkman. Organizer, Copy and paste function, internet, Games, Photo-VideoDJ, recorder all jampacked on this phone. All I can say man is this is Very Good... Ehem... SUPERB fo a phone.

I think Nokia has good phones, but like others say, once you get a new Nokia phone, wait for a few weeks and theres a new release, which means your phones value will depreciate. I have nothing against nokia considering I liked thier phones before and was using them, but man, their having a lot of competition right now... and they better watch out.

BTW
aman, I tried to create a text message it I was able to create up to 1150 characters and i think its more than that because I stopped and got tired.

To Andrew (Can I call u Andy?)

E-series?...pls that is one ugly phone.
If u want true connectivity than go get urself the SE P990i.
Sheer brilliance. Once again with the release of the P990i SE resets the 'benchmark' with smartphones.
Err..did someone say 'communicator?' What's that?...lol

If this you posted is correct Aman, i think that Nokia will continue on top, because of N-Series and E-Series... Optical Zoom... bah! Camera is not all in a cellphone, conectivity and call quality is the important... Who cares about Carl Zeiss lens?

If you want Carl Zeiss lens, Buy a Digital Camera... I use cellphone to make calls and to use conectivity ressources... that's why I have a Nokia E70.

This is a great phone afterall... But no EDGE and no WLAN, for me do not fit... The camera is the same that i have...

Sony Cyber-Shot 3.2 MP +Xenon Flash...

Bought it for US$150 and my Nokia E70 for US$400

I will not pay 500 bucks for a phone who hasn't an OS not either a WLAN connectivity...

Hi guys I found this post on the net, is it true?
Pls post ur comments..

"As you may know Sony has partially overtaken the Camera business from Konica-Minolta. Konica-Minolta used to have the first ultra compact in-body folded optics zooming lens system (see picture) in the Dimage X series. The very last model, known as Dimage X1 is optically stabilized. I've heard from some non-trusted source that Sony Ericsson is willing to introduce the folded optics technology in the upcoming flagship CyberShot phone to ensure 3x optical zoom along with CCD sensor in and extremely compact size. One should also take it into account that Konica-Minolta Dimage X1 with the optically stabilized folded zooming lens system is only 19.5 mm thick and has 95 x 68 mm dimensions. (The complete lens system including the CCD sensor and shifting mechanics is less than 15 x 20 x 60 mm). Due to the strange coincidence that rumors might be true. What actually means a renaissance in digital imaging. "

If it is true...then I think that DOOMS DAY is even more near to Nokia than we anticipated..lol..as it is Nokia really struggles to compete in the multimedia department. ;-)

Great phone but am having problems with sim contact list. anything transferred from my old sim card from my previous phone, shows up on the sim contact list with a sim card symbol on the K800 contact list. anything I now add to the sim card contact list, either by copying or adding directly, does not have a sim symbol in the display although the list says the number is stored. why is this?
