I've got to say this is the best phone ever the screen is so big im enjoying the camera and it's so fast keypad is user friendly not so close together even the battery issue doesnt bug me that much i'm in love with my bold 9900 :)

I have been using these smart phones/PDAs since the first Palm PDAs came onto the market 16 years ago and quite honestly I am intensly pleased with the purchase of this phone. It actually has very few bugs, and that's saying something when comparing it to the current crop of quick R&D released smart phones that we are seeing entering the market these days. Most companies, including my last phone developer (Windows 6.5 into LG-IQ) were already onto the next generation of phones and had no interest in picking out a myriad of glitches that existed on the last month's model. Since then I have decided to only stick with any company that releases only a few models each year so that would be iPhone or BlackBerry, that way the odds are better that they will clean up the various glitches that do exist, which I see BlackBerry doing with the 7.1.0 firmware release recently.
Yea you might think that the 9900 is a pig on battery life but I personally will go through an entire day from 9:00am to 8:00pm and still have 70% left on my battery gauge. I am using mine for mostly business which means that the camera barely gets used and surfing is usually under half an hour. I text maybe a dozen times and check my Emails and blue tooth print a handful of invoices and talk for maybe half an hour each day so all is good for my lifestyle. Though I am a little worried about all the talk about the screens cracking so I will probably put the $45 into a backup screen that I'll just keep in a drawer waiting for that day that I sit on my phone and hear a pop!
Anyhow, for what it's worth I did put the BlackBerry 9900 onto my test bench and hooked an Milliamp meter up to it to see what kinda drain was coming out of various applications, this is briefly what I found (and it will mean nothing to the none-tech savy folks)--->
Standby mode(sleep), network only on =2 mah drain
Powered up, network only, screen @ 10% =45mah
Powered up, network only, screen @ 50%) =64mah drain
Powered up, network only, screen @100%) =95mah drain

Listening to saved music (screen off/earphones) =24mah
Composing a text message =75mah avg
Reading Emails =100mah
Watching Youtube videos (earphones) =200mah
Phone call =250mah
Touching the trackpad =300mah
Camera app. opened (GPS on) =400mah
Taking a picture (without flash, GPS on) =500mah
surfing web =400mah-500mah

Actually the Cellular, WiFi, Blue Tooth and GPS could all be on without any serious losses in power as long as the 9900 was in Standby mode (inactive). All these numbers mean nothing until you realize that the battery inside this phone is only a 1230 mah battery which means that if for example if you were to surf the web, which is about 1/3rd of 1230mah, it would drain a fresh battery in about 3 hours. The big consumers of power were the big white flashlight (High intensity LED) I have no idea how much that is, maybe several more hundred mah on top of the camera/video app., The track ball added +200mah of drain just by touching the thing, I guess it's the laser unit inside there or extra processing power, dunno, the speakers were also power hungry and I have no idea either, but maybe a few hundred extra mah and finally the camera was a pig, even just being opened and not taking a picture it would gobble up over 350mah of battery drain, maybe it was the GPS looking for my location, but I forgot to check that. One little glitch that I spotted, but it may be nothing, I had my phone start up once with the screen at 100% intensity and would not drop in intensity even when the screen setting was reduced to 10%. The solution was to pull the battery for 2-3 minutes. But honestly I was messing with the battery connections at the time. Hope this helps.

one week back i upgraded the OS version to 7.1.0.342(1149), changed the Network from 3G to 2G, dimmed brightness to 10, battery seems to last almost thrice more than what it used to be earlier, still i would say that using this phone on 3G is what provides u with a better experience of the loaded features of this device, sadly the battery doesn't last longer on 3G & earlier OS version of 7.0, i still wonder how this phone still made it through the QC checks & beta-trials by RIM

This is a good phone if you don't use the camera. Camera has no Autofocus, no clear pictures for near objects.

Don't u think, the two things that u said is worse than iphone 4. Fyi i'm using iphone 4 & bold 9790. Iphone and blackberry is a two phone with different purpose! I think you're only doesn't like apple.
