Ive had this phone for 2 years now but I must say that anyone who is now, in the year 2012 thinking of buying one is crazy. dont get me wrong I love the phone, but it is outdated to say the least. Small mem and slow cpu means you cant even run google maps smoothly. My advice to people on a budget looking for a smartphone is, buy something better. Buying this now is just throwing money out of the window, its amost unusable.

I have HTC Hero for a year and half, bought it as a second hand product, its about 2 and a half years old, runs stock Android 2.1.1, still works perfectly, not a single issue. Unfortunately, those people who complain about this phone don't know how to use it properly. I recommend this phone.

Outdated Android OS? Just install cyanogenmod or any other modded rom, this beauty runs 2.3.4 like butter except the most demanding games ;)

I've had my HTC Hero for several months now and it is yet to fail me. Though running an outdated 2.1 android OS and not being able to update any further, I am yet to come across an app on the market (except games) that did not run smoothly on this phone. The battery life of the HTC Hero lasts longer than some of the other newer smartphone models out there (and if you are a heavy app/game user, you can always purchase an extended bat online for longer usage). If you install the right utility apps and really explore and manage this phone to your personal favor, you will find that this phone is actually excellent and very reliable.

> In reply to Paicer @ 2012-01-20 19:08 from pJb} - click to readOutdated, takes too long to load pages, and a delay when dialing cause processor is looking up number. Also stores aps on internal memory, which is too small to load up on the aps you want. But on the plus its one of the only smart phones that actually fits in your jean or pants pocket and comes with corning gorilla glass and if you buy the extended battery on amazon, youll get all day use. I still have mine, but I am holding out for the samsung nexus cdma phone.

> In reply to alexis @ 2012-01-17 15:05 from nHSf - click to readI have a hero. Have for about 2 yrs now. The positives; its extremely reliable(I've dropped it many times and only have a tiny scratch), its fast enough with most tasks, like all Androids-most apps are free and the market is only growing, I love the multi touch screen, like the touch keyboard better too, and because its old in terms of technology you could get it for probably cheap. The downsides; because it is old there are much newer better androids out there that can run much better apps/games that you can't access through this market, when you update the phone(which I have only been able to do once in 2 yrs) Google automatically puts apps on your phone which you can't modify or delete(ever)-one ex. Google talk is always on and charges data even when not in use...can't even force close it as it re-launches itself(spoke to TELUS and HTC-they are both baffled and have no suggestions),which brings me to my worst point- don't ever expect any kind of tech support. Google can't be contacted and as I said HTC and TELUS knew absolutely nothing about this phone-even saying none of their staff had one(and this was only a year after its release). It also can't run java without an emulator, or anything faster at all which limits you with certain sites and def game play, and lastly the auto-correct function is often wrong and if you dont catch it,it will make a fool of you(the dictionary also starts out severely lacking words,so it will often say things aren't words that absolutely are). Overall if you're a tech junky this probably won't satisfy you-you should get a newer Android like a Galaxy or Experia. If you're looking for a respectable, decent, cheaper, albeit older phone, this will get the job done. I recommend with an asterisk*.
