I guess the Motorola 5.5 mm candybar (like what PK2000 and Kal said), might be the rumoured MotoScpl (scalpel). And i think that that phone will be announced as motorola's flagship by 2007 when the SCPL-series rolls out throughout 2007 and 2008. Bcuz i read a news that said : "Ed Zander is going to trade his RAZR for a SCPL.". go to this website : http://www.motorazr.com/home/p2_articleid/308

@ pk2000....
i agree with what your saying this phone is great for sending / recieving calls and texts and does look really good. but it is very likely moto will release a krzri or something similar. i would advise all people who are interested in buying this phone to wait (what will most probably be a couple of months) for the upgraded version or to take a look at the v3x which is a completed model which allready boasts better features for a cheaper price.

To me Korean phones are just like Korean cars, good in looking and never live up to the performance. Give me a Honda Integra or Hyundai Tuscani and people should know which one is better. I know this is strictly for opinion on phones and I posted my opinion on K1 and I never say is very good but it does perform what a phone needs to do that is making calls and sending MMS/SMS without problems and so what if you get a phone that is as thin as paper and will consumer buy?? Finally sorry I will only post my opinions on Motorola, Nokia or Sony Ericsson phones and Korean products do interest me much any way.

@ kal and pk2000...
where as you both have correct information in part i would like to add that samsung actually designed first. there where various reasons why they withheld the release of the V740, nothing to do with the thickness of the phone as they already had plans for the x820 which (correct me if im wrong) was the thinnest gsm phone on the market when released. there has been alot of 'copying' from the 2 manufacturers and now LG are joining in too.
surely instead of arguing 'who has what' and 'who did it first' we should look to the future of what this can lead to i.e. 3 manufactures all releasing similar phones to suit different aspects of the market.
I.M.H.O. this will result in a two horse race between LG and Samsung (baring in mind LG have taken over motorola in their own coutry (US)) That is of course believeing that motorola will keep bringing out phones that dont seem to be an improvement or seem to be much different than their last, whilst samsung are improving their phones (i.e. d900, x820) and LG are starting to filter into more countries and leading through 3G and the camera qualities whilst also combing technology with new functionalitie (scratch and scroll etc)

I had seen the 5.5 mm candybar phone and I will not reveal how I know or saw it. What my interest is only GSM phones and Motorola is the first to launch in GSM for sure and I cannot recall Korean are using GSM network as they are using KCDMA and same goes to Japan also.

nope they say the 2mpx its bad because ITS BAD! have you read reviews!? it takes blurry pictures, same goes to the razr maxx. i wouldn't recommend this phone especially if you are buying it because of it camera. or features because of them you can get something better like QVGA or fm radio for the same price.

Just between you and me--
Thanks for shraing some info. Just to add some more, if you go to the motorola page in this site you will notice that they annuced those eggshell phones with external antena till 2005 1Q..those might be the old designs that they had before or might be country specific phones..but I, sure see a lot of them in the US. You mentioned about Z510/Z540 which was released much later than razr..but I believe you forgot to take into account that Samsung had V740 in Korea about the same time when Razr was 1st released. They had their press release on the same day infact, both had same thickness 14.5mm..V740 had better specs. But when rarz was released in the market the thickness was 13.9mm.They had won the thin-game..They went ahead and released it world wide..where as Samsung didn't. That V740 is now in US as A900(CDMA) aka Samsung Blade. The GSM version D810 is not even been released and most probably will not.Whoever sees it, says its a razr copy. So personally I think that Samsung took that defeat way very personally...now there are rumors of a new motorola bar phone that will be 5.5mm thin..lets see. At the end of the day its good for us, when manufacturers compete with each other. We get to see some nice technology.Cheers!

The KRZR is simply amazing and the best among all in the moto stable. Video & Pic Quality is superb. Good change from V3i : Full Screen Video / Pic Viewer, Much faster, Side View of Display is clear unlike V3i, Direct setting of MP3 Ringtones from Memcard Possible. MP3 player works with flip closed. Phone is more SEXXY though a little fatter than the V3i. Though I find the absence of FM radio and A2DP is unpardonable.

Being in the mobile industry i was invited to attend a motorola function previewing this phone.
The phone itself is great looking and great to use but the features of the phone are not as up to date as you would expect.
Yet again motorola seem to be churning out phones that arent really much better than the last one and definatly not up to date with the market leaders.
They broke into the world of 3G...GREAT!! why no 3G on this phone?? with 3.2 and now 5 megapixel cameras released why only a 2?? Can anyone tell me why they would choose this phone over the v3x??
Go on motorola you need to be brave release a phone that not only looks good and runs ok but that also has the features to back it up with!!

Personally I think K1 is a good choice for those people with smaller hands, wants a decent camera phone, decent features like bluetooth and MP3 player. Cannot deny that I own one, but due to my perference for phone with OS that support more applications, I am owning a Dopod 818 Pro as well. I don't know where to find any facts that Motorola steal some company design or employ a 3rd party company to design the phone but I only know they used 3rd party IC chips(I will not reveal the company) and before even the release of V3, the software engineers had never even seen the actual phone and were using sample circuit board for the testing. Those eggshell or egg shape traditional phones are released to mass population countries like China and India I guess as I cannot find them in Singapore after V3 released. Erm can I know when is the date Samsung announce the phone of Z510 and Z540?? I think was 2005 Q4 they announced ... and V3 was announced on 2004 Q3 as I will not be wrong cos I ... :P Samsung see that going slim is a way to win back its market share, so with one year and the money resources of Samsung(Is not only a mobile phone company :)) they cannot develop something that is better than V3 will be a joke. True enough I was very impressed with Samsung UI during the communicAsia 2006.

---"What for Motorola needs to dig out more on its resources to get the phone design to be slimmer if some companies are paying the rights to their patents for each phone sold."--
Are you trying to say that motorolla has patent for thin calmshell and Samsung is paying them for their new models? So far I knew they have to design all new thinner chip-sets to put it in such a thin phones. and Samsung is using their own tech and thats why they are keep making them..coz they already have the know-how. If moto has the design they used in RAZR then why there is no other model that has the same thinkness as of Razr anymore? even after the release of razr moto kept making their traditional egg-shaped calmshells with external antena. That made me feel like maybe moto used someone else's chipset design for SLVR and RAZR. I might be wrong but I have not seen any facts to prove wrong either.
Anyways,, I guess its not the right forum to talk about it...some people might think I'm baised and giving negetive comments and all. Just to assure you guys and Gangsta Moto...I'm not a person how will post a single line saying "Moto Sucks and someother brand Rocks" without explaining why. Personally I liked V3x design(not razr) and I believe this KARZ has got all the potential to be another success story for moto.
So cheers!

Hi. I think talking about companys comercial strategys is useless in this forum and it would be more interesting if ppl talk about their experience with the phone.
however I'd like to answer some posts and defend the idea of the motorola's marketing strategy about some of their phones having same based design.
Have you seen a Porche that looks like a Ferrari???
almost all brans of any kind try to find a "look" of their own. This is not at all new, and I don't think is bad...
Motorola made probably the first design object that was also a slim phone with the V3, it's logical if they go that way in the design, that phone IS motorola.
When you see the new K1 you don't have to ask wich brand is it.
BTW I think the phone is beautiful. I'd like to read more useful opinions on it. Is the camera so bad?? or ppl say this because it's 2 MP. Personally I don't need more than that
cheers!

This phone is considered not bad for users that wants a good feel, decent camera (2MP) and decent features, to me is 7.5/10. Some ignorant posters here always hoo-ha about how good what brand/model is or what ever improvement they have. In reality any feature can be patent by a particular company example clamshell(Motorola) and built in radio(Nokia). People should know that once the feature get its patents, any company using that methology needs to pay it rights. That is why Nokia only starts to build clamshell phones 2 years ago. So if RAZR is launched earlier than the slimmest Samsung and get its certain patents. What for Motorola needs to dig out more on its resources to get the phone design to be slimmer if some companies are paying the rights to their patents for each phone sold.
