Just want to say sharp gx17 is a rugged phone... it's really a phone that worths it's money......... but one thing that would have made me rate the phone a 100% is if it had a memory card port and true tones could be used as a ring tone.........
But in a nut shell I'll rate the phone 85%
But I Love the Phone for all qualities it has

I bought the SHARP GX17 at the start of 2006 for $350, it can now be bought in NZ for around $170. my GX17 served me quite well for the last 2 and a half years, but i think it's finally dying on me, so am upgrading to the LG Shine KU970.
This phone is extremly durable, and works just as good as it did when i bought it (except the battery only lasts less than a day at the moment, and only gives me 15 minutes calltime, but that's the battery at fault) even after many, many, MANY incidences where i've dropped it on concrete and ashphalt and in attemp to catch it ended up swatting it right across the ground.
the inbox is a bit slow when opening when it gets to about 3/4 full, but this can easily be fixed by emptying your inbox, or if you're like me and like to keep messages, then just suck it up and wait, *laughs*
when i first got this phone it irritated me that you could only have 30 seconds of voice / video, which means downloading $7.00 songs only gave you a 30 second clip of the song.
this phone is very common now in NZ, but when i first got mine, i recieved many compliments about it, as it is quie a nice looking phone... untill you've dropped it so many times the paint is almost all scratched off (see above)
the paintwork on my round menu / enter button also wore very quickly, though to be fair, i do often have long nails.
the camera isnt the best, but again, at the time it was right up there.
this phone has a very, very small memory capabiliy (micro... nano... pico- ly small, lol) but it WORKS SO WELL.
the SHARP GX17 has a very simple and user friendly interface, making it very suitable for older or 1st phone users.
= )
if you're not after music players or fancy cameras, the SHARP GX17 would be a good and cheap choice, i do recommend it, even though i've grown out of mine

I have a GX17, I installed the Handset Manager from Sharp (GX17_HM_e_b6.EXE). I conect the phone to the computer by bluetooth, but the handset manager will not connect to the phone, no matter how much I try. I found this program: CleverCell, that works fine, but cant download images.
Have any of you guys found a good phone manager that works with GX17 or found a way for the Sharp handset manager to work?
thanks

i am unable to move my recordings of special ringtones from my nokia 6235 via infrared or from a sony ericsson w800i either by bluetooth or infrared. Is there some special setting required, as the manual is not much help. The data moves satisfactorily between my friends phones okay .

@ Abu Aishat
You can upload your pictures through bluetooth connection. I do this every time and it works perfect.

I have this phone for about 2 and a half years and i say it's one of the best PHONES. I don't care about camera or video. I care about bluetooth, infrared and USB connections. The menu is very easy to use and predictive. I only complain about the fact that I cannot send all the contacts through bluetooth in one action, i have to send them one by one.

This phone isn't really that bad as other people have mentioned. Yes the memory of only about 1.8mb at the MOST is not the best; the camera sound plays even in silent mode; the camera itself is s l o w and is only about 0.3mp. I could ramble on about it. BUT - its design is fairly simple; a nice look; able to use infrared/bluetooth (though some people have problems with these functions). My only query is: is there any way possible to upload games onto the phone which were downloaded from the net?? The program that comes with the cd when you buy the phone doesn't seem to have an application to upload games which would mean that Vodafone wants the user to BUY games from Vodafone Live! rather than doing it the cheaper way. Please email me at flukist.in.training@gmail.com if you know a way to upload games freely onto the phone! Thanks~

The phone is quite handy but i am regretting that i bought this phone, the lifetime setting of my text messages doesn't work, the photo and video quality is crap. I only bought this phone becoz i lost my old one, it's much worse than my previous one tho the price was similar.
