It a very good mobile, just one really bad handicap and it is that it is only updated until version 2.1, so you cannot move apps to the external memory and quickly you run out of main memory.

my hero runing latest firmwarw 2.3.5. and can move app on sd and everything what can latest phons.Must be rooted,ofcourse.Best phon eveeeer!

last update for HTC hero is 2.1.. so sad cant update anymore.. low phone memory.. u cannot even transfer applications from phone to sd card.

I have had this phone for over a year now and unfortunatelly I would never go for HTC phone again. Never mind the battery that runs runs out on a daily basis (that's if you're hardly using the handset; if you make a few calls and browse/text a few times, the battery will only last 8 hours or so). The phone is rather slow and after using it for a while, although it hasn't been dropped or dusty, it gets jerky, tends to switch itself off for no reason and is generally not very reliable. Over this past year there had been 5 or so occassions where the alarm just didn't go off because the screen 'froze' over night. So when i woke up in the morning it said 3am, once I unlocked the screen the time was 8am. Just rather disappointment. Wouldn't really recommend.
