1. 9530 is like looking back ok. storm 9550 is the same as ur 9520, Euro and US respectively. not inferior. well, maybe to the storm3 and 4 that are on there way.
2.about the maps. (mobile.blackberry.com)scroll down u will see "download blackberry maps". it didnt work 4 me cuz am a "caveman". but it should 4u.
3. to deactivate "suretype".options, screen/keyboard, scroll dwn to "portrait view keyboard" and select the option u need.
4. i was strong advised not to upgrade to OS 6 just yet. however i upgraded my 9550 fro v5.0.0.607 to v5.0.0.713. not sure what to say about it just yet.
NB. if ur phone is not giving you any problem do not give ur phone any prob. good luck.

Dear Friends,
I recently bought 9520 and have some queries which I need some expert opinion.
Mine is BB 9520. Is there a difference between this and 9530 ands 9550. Is 9520 an inferior device?
Can anyone tell me how to get/download MAPS to my BB 9520 device?
Also is there anyway that I can incativate the suretype feature?
Also can I upgrade my OS to BB 6 OS?
Really appreciate your advice,
Sachith

> In reply to zaini @ 2010-10-24 14:39 from u1Ce - click to readYeah, the Bold series has an awesome keyboard. I loved the 9000's keyboard. The iPhone is a great device for entertainment. But, since the battery doesn't last that long, I see no point in buying one. You'll need chargers everywhere you go. The Storm has decent battery life, but my Curve had better. I don't use my phone for games. Although I do have like 4 installed. I mainly use it for email, chat and social networking. That is what BlackBerry is built for.

After 2 years of a relatively trouble free Bold, I decided to go to the Storm 2. We all knew the first Storm was going to be for the guinea pigs, with a plethora of problems. One Storm 1 owner I know will never buy another RIM product again.
To be honest, I'm pretty fed up after 3 months with this phone as I have to constantly turn it on and off when the keys just don't respond. This problem is getting worse. Another trick it has is it wont hang up. I discovered this gem when I noticed the bottom buttons illuminated a few hours after my wife had phoned me. She didn't hang up correctly, I pressed the disconnect button, but it didn't register. Looking forward to that bill. The only way I can hang up sometimes is to turn the phone off. My kids i-phones make the Storm look like the slow, ugly bucktoothed cousin as far as net browsing, music downloads- which I can't do for some reason and applications. Don't even start me on the rubbish applications available. The click screen certainly works better for me than the other touch phones which is why I chose it.
Overall- I regret choosing this phone for many reasons, including no one in phone shops who can actually help you with some of the finer points. I'm sure if I had access to someone who is an expert on these things, my disappointment would lessen.

> In reply to Vincent @ 2010-10-22 06:25 from UDQd - click to readI can honestly tell you that the Storm's touchscreen is an "acquired taste". First, I hated the Storm 1's screen. The way it wobbled. Plus, it had very little memory and would freeze up alot. The Storm 2's screen is way better. RIM wanted to create a touchscreen which gave off the "sensation" that you were using buttons. This phone succeeds. I type very fast and the only mistakes I make are due to the auto-correct feature, because I type in Spanish and English.
I had an iPod touch and the screen was very sensitive but I easily made typos. The Storm's clickable screen is sensitive but allows me to actually type with fewer mistakes. Not everyone likes the "extra effort" of pushing the screen, but honestly, I don't notice the "effort". Try one out in person and see if the screen is okay for you.
Another thing. Don't expect to have a ton of apps for this phone. Android and Apple have better apps for entertainment. The Storm is a great messaging device, be it email, social networking, or instant messages. This does all of that at a great level.

> In reply to blackberrian @ 2010-10-14 10:31 from v3B9 - click to readYeah, I remember your name too. It's been a while since we've talked! I am really happy with the Storm. I loved my Curve but needed something with a better camera and a touchscreen. I was choosing between the Storm2, Droid, iPhone 4 and the Torch. I didn't like the Droid or the Torch. And BlackBerry has a better push notification system than Apple or Google, so I went for the 9550. Don't regret it one bit. I love the screen, I'm very accurate with it. Good luck finding a phone you like!

> In reply to blackberrian @ 2010-10-12 19:29 from v35L - click to readHey! I used to have the 8520 and upgraded to the 9550. It has the same amount of memory for apps as the Gemini did. If I had waited until this weekend, I would've been able to get the Torch. But I've always wanted a Storm 2 and I am really happy with it. I chose the 9550 because it has 3G (CDMA)while the 9520 is EDGE. SurePress is pretty great. I can type just as fast as I could on my Gemini.

may i know that, this device has 2GB memory on board right, but how much it allocates for the "application"??
for instance, the old bold 1 9000 has 1GB internal memory but it only allocates somewhere about 40-60 MB only for the apps..this quite irritating coz i cant put many apps on it..only a few that i think is a must..whereas the new bold2 aka onyx n curve 8520 aka gemini have only 256 MB internal memory but it allowed all of the memory to be used as also for keeping the apps..but of coz after deduction for system use,it left about 128 MB but it ALLOWED all to keep the apps..plz tell me about it,as i looking forward to buy this as my next generation of BB..
