I bought a new battery today, but was unable to see if it works as it came totally dead. Is this normal?

> In reply to Carlos Figueiredo @ 2010-03-07 12:52 from 8QFyU might want to try disable auto keypad lock feature. Not sure if that helps, but it works for my case.

This would be a generally good phone if it weren't for one problem. It often freezes when making or receiving calls.
I first thought that it was a problem with my phone, but after talking with many owners of the same model, it really seems to be a design flaw, inherent to it. I have seen many comments on this problem right here as well.
Unfortunately, palm support is not very supportive and seems to have a problem even acknowledging the problem. Even having the phone changed for another one does not seem to resolve the problem. This really made me lose my confidence in Palm as a company.
I loved this phone for the first week, after that it has been useless. Beware.

> In reply to me @ 2009-12-30 19:32 from tCQTI have the same problem with the adaptor I've purchased. It does get a little irritating but considering the other problems I've been having (see previous comment), launching Dial when I plug the earphone is the least of my concerns lol

So, I have a Palm Centro. In the beggining (first couple of weekes) I was quite pleased - the qwerty is good, I like Palm OS, and the camera is nice in spite of the low Mpx. After a while, however, I started to have trouble in receiving and making calls. The cellphone function would freeze in both situations and, what's even worse, I would not hear a thing on the calls, but the other side could hear me - that almost caused me pretty embarassing situations. I thought it was a problem with my cellphone, but after talking to some people who own this in my country (Brazil), I found out apparently it's a problem with the Centro model. Dozens of people have reported the same sort of trouble and still Palm has done nothing.

To complete such bad canvas, it's the second time I have had my phone changed (Palm does not fix cellphones) while in manufactors warranty, that's to say, in less than a year. Both changes were for additional problems, not the freezing one, yet the phone continues to freeze.

In a sentence - the Palm Centro is a great Palm, yet a awfull cellphone. Beware of it.

This is my 3rd smartphone as well as Palm series after Treo 270 and 650. Although unlike other fashion phones Centro does not have fancy hardware functionalities and the currently very demanded 3G support, Palm's very mature software variety and customization are really good and stable. My Centro does not crash easily and buttons work great.

My only concern is that I often accidentally press power button when trying to access home or message button.

Well, this is my 4th post about Palm Centro. Eventhough the new LCD cost me so much, it is still great. Out of all the Mobile collections that I have, this is the only Phone that I occassionally use.

Keyboard malfunctions really does not happen by the phone itself. Its because of the USER's way on pressing the letters. If your a HARD presser, then the keyboard would really malfunct.

i really like this phone even if i do encounter some problems with it. Ive had this phone for about a year.

Here are some hints esp. for those living in the Philippines with a palm centro.

1. having it fixed if somehow your keypad does not respond is a nightmare! Palm is not known in the country so you will have a hard time getting it fixed!

2. It is so hard to find an transformer jack so you can stick in your preferred headphones (those compatible to the ipod; universal jack) Its so hard to find a store that sells original palm accessories.
There ARE fake ones but....you have to really "screw it in hard" which sets off the voice dialing program- i have NO IDEA why that happens-it gets really irritating.

3. The climate. Staying in a cold room and then walking out into a hot place is not good for the phone! the little "microchips" under the keypads get rusty!!!! (this was explained to me by a mobile fixer and i actually saw rust!)

Thats all ive experienced...i am thinking of getting an iphone 3g 16gb now

but if there were available accessories and there is someone who really specializes in fixing palms then id probably stick to it.

The Centro is terrible. No wifi support. I don't need to say anything else. Any PDA that does not support Wifi should not even be considered usable anymore. Piece of junk. Don't get it.

Had a Centro for about 1 year, then "upgraded" to a Blackberry, put up with it for 2 months before I put my sim back into the Centro! Love it, want a Pre now, particularly as you can install Classics (Palm OS) and use all your centro apps.

Having used this phone for 4-5 months it is the most unreliable handset i have come accross,

Bluetooth doesnt connect to parrot kits.
Crashes on answering calls.
No Palm support for updates.
Tiny keypad very hard to type with.

Thank goodness for Blackberry`s, saving me from a phone thats not worth the money.
