The factory update settings are a bit weird, because the system searches for update only once per year, so here's what you do... Go to the "Time and Date" settings, and feel free to "fast forward in time", at least some 6 months. You can even set the next year, but, I recommend that you set the month for, say, September or October. Then, the phone itself SHOULD give you a notification, that there's a system update available. Be sure to be somewhere where you have access to Wi-Fi, because it will take some time. Also, it would be nice, if you have made backup to the important stuff, although, when I upgraded my phone, my email accounts, and contacts remained unaffected by the update. So, when the notification comes, proceed with the 2 step process (1st step: ROM upgrade; 2nd step: system upgrade to Android 2.1). If something happens after the first step, you can now easily search for the system update in the "about phone" menu, because there should be a "system software updates" option.
This is how I upgraded my phone to Eclair, so I guess that should work for every G2 Touch out there. Good luck.

People chill out! This is not the new G2.. this is a different phone that they also used to call g2. It's a euro version of the HTC Hero. I'm typing on the Sprint version now;)

WHY OHHH WHY didn't they add a BUILT IN Camera Flash???? Duhhhh!!! Don't want it nowwwww. That would have made it a complete upgrade of the G1, which I currently have. That was the only thing missing, a flash for the camera so those indoor pictures don't come out so darn dark. Guess I'm going with another phone when I upgrade....mytouch/slide maybe.

.....Or maybe I can custom order a G2 with a built in flash. How about it G2 makers????? Can you guys/gals make that happen???? G2 with built in flash???????

Hey i had one of these phones on contract from t-mobile and overall it is a really good phone ya can do allot of things on this phone for e.g you can download allot of apps which save to the 2GB memory card that comes supplied with the phone or for e.g you can browse the web with the default browser on the phone or you can connect to a WiFi network and browse the web that way and overall the internet is pretty fast and you can even go on YouTube which allot of phones don't let you do. With photos and the web browser you can use pinch zoom to zoom into the page. This phone even has Google maps and it has a 5MP camera but the down point is that this phone doesn't have flash which means that you get poor quality photos in poor light. You also get 6 screens to add the HTC widgets where as on the T-mobile G1 you only have 3 screens. You also have the track ball in the middle of the large chin at the bottom of the phone which flashes if you revive a text message which is handy if the phone is on silent and in your shirt pocket as you can see it flashing. Unfortunately the G2 i had i started having problems with as it stopped receiving my text messages so i sod the phone and now have a LG which admittedly is no match for the HTC G2 touch. Overall i would recommend this phone to anyone who is looking into buying one of these phones. :-)
