Maybe the device has 4G"b" ROM and 3G"b" RAM.
512MB ROM/384MB RAM sounds much more likely.

Example is Galaxy i7500. Galaxy users are still on 1.5 and didn't get any update, note even on 1.6.

They sign online petitions in order to get upgrade and two independent developers showed that it can be done.

If Samsung continues this policy toward its users, I don't recommend their phones to anyone.

Just to remember. Smartphones buy users who want maximum, not only call and send SMS.
