The test phones sent to reviewers/testers don't work properly (not up to release standard). Delays are more likely to come from getting the thing working right rather than worrying about the D500. The reasons for this are the large price difference between the D500 and D600, and most people are buying other brands instead of D600 (not D500 instead).

To compare the K750 and D600 seems strange. The D600 has a double resolution screen, much nicer sound (dual speakers etc.), file viewer, double size phone book, and SD compatible memory card. The K750 seems like the minimum spec for a nice small phone, whereas the D600 seems to have several extra-nice features.

But people ARE buying phones like the K750 due to the D600 not being released yet. Samsung know the D600 is going to be an extremely successful model, doubtful they want to release it prematurely and get quality issues.

i think they might be purposely delaying the release date because it might affect the d500 sales.what do u think guys

I heard it was planned for early July, but they changed it to August.... darn..
Well.. it's summerbreak I can wait as long as it comes out b4 break is over.

when is this phone coming out cus i don't know whether to wait until the d600 comes out or get the sony ericsson k750

Again, as I already said in earlier posts, the extend of technology depends on time. As time passes by high-end technology migrates to medium technology etc. Samsung has now a high-end phone, but not on the market. It depends on when they release it to determine if it is high-end technology of not. If they don't release it within a few months, the phone may be not as high-end anymore as it is at this moment. So plz stop by saying this is the greatest phone at this moment, because this phone is not available at this moment.

btw. I can't wait until this phone releases, because then it would be my first choice, but until so far it doesn't look like it will happen soon :(

This is one of the best phones available in the market since the past 5 months, this is one of the strongest reason why I havent changed my cell yet. I am sure no one can complain abt it.Samsung should take over Nokia market soon.

the reason Nokia sold more phones is because many countries years ago most of the countries didn't have high technology (except Korea and Japan) and therefore they were able to sell a lot of their crappy low-end cheap phones in many countries.
But now a lot of countries like U.S. or Africa are eventually using high-end phones
which means now Samsung is selling their phones worldwide.

Don't even try to compare Nokia and Samsung just because Nokia sold millions of their crappy phones. Qualitywise, Nokia never got even closer to Samsung and never will.

I don't think you should generalize about Nokia if you have had a phone that didn't worked well. I for example have already more than 3 years a nokia 8310 and it's stil works perfectly after insensive use. But I agree that Nokia today is relatively not leading in technology anymore. Therefore I'm looking for another brand. In my opinion SE still is leading at the moment with the K750i. It's still not clear how long samsung will take to overtake them with the d600 and therefore I'm almost certainly go for the K750. The D600 looks good but I think the release will be to late to be leading in technology with this phone. Let's hope they will release him fast!

i totally agree with u bob.earlier i used nokia
7210.the phone just switches off it self after 2months of use.i was frustrated about this.and i heard that the cause of the phone switching off is because of the background image that is been usued in the front display.so i removed the background image and it worked normally.
this fault continued to the nokia 7250 where if u put a photo which is taken from the phone as the background image it switches it self off.
now iam using nokia 3660.this one also has some faults.u can hardly hear the other person.even alcatel have improved in their voice clarity.the memory card gets easily corrupted.and the phone loses it's signal if u meddle with it for some time.

so guys there are so many problems regarding
nokia phones.as bob said it uses low technolgy but higher price.
but i havent used a samsung phone yet.but iam awaiting this to be released.

No, the winter Olympics is over in February. The phone will be out in the next few months. Of course every phone undergoes rigorous testing before released (well most models do). Once it is at an 'acceptable' quality level for release, they are free to release it at any time they desire (pending market timing). I expect a few bugs in the firmware but otherwise good quality at release.

The person with no name claiming Nokia is the best... well it was a few years ago. Not anymore. Go ahead and buy a crappy old technology overpriced Nokia model, we won't try to persuade you otherwise. My Nokia has had so many problems and Nokia still to this day refuse to replace it. They've agreed to replace the screen, keypad, clock battery, and firmware - which is basically everything - because they all have problems (it's almost 3 years old but the problems are so numerous they agreed to do it for free), yet they refuse to just outright replace the phone which would be much cheaper for them. I frequently get multiple disconnects on a single call, the clock doesn't retain the time after power off, the alarm sometimes decides not to work, it rejects the sim card, it reboots at odd times, the display goes crazy, the keypad lights intermittently flash on and off, and many other problems. Nokia has had an easy ride and have become lazy and arrogant. Enjoy your low level old technology Nokia while the rest of us buy better models.

Samsung has certainly improved a lot in recent years, and this phone is a good example of what can be achieved when a company decides to focus on producing quality product instead of trying to sell the highest quantity.

I think it will take up to the end of this year till the mobile will be availibe on the marked.

I talk to an Samsung Engineer, he told me that D600 has to pass some Tests before they could sell this one.

Yes so people screaming for it's release should be thankful they'll get a quality piece of equipment eventually. Samsung had a working D600 model since March, and lots of testing since then!

As a sponsor of the Winter Olympics in February, Samsung are giving 8000 of these for use by Olympic officals and staff. If there were to be problems with the quality, it would be a marketing disaster. Samsung already gave a D600 to the Olympic organising committee president at the start of May.

The hardware is probably fine. But given the complexity of the firmware, it's quite time consuming to fix any bugs. After buying this phone I'll update the firmware at a later stage (seriously). One of my Nokia updates almost doubled the speed of some of the functions. (data must be backed-up prior to any reflash)

hi bob.did u know that samsung made a major fault in their sound system in E720.
most of the users have complained regarding the
sound quality.iam very doubtfull that they might make the same mistake in this phone.

Best indications are July to September in most markets. Samsung are still debugging the firmware. The phone was somewhat prematurely announced by Samsung a few months ago.

Yes I'm waiting for it to be available and I intend to buy one. I've been waiting for a while for a compact and light phone with a very nice display, and personally I like the slider form (and hate flip phones). However I'd still recommend people to check out the other new Samsungs as we all have different tastes and needs. I definitely suggest getting a model with the 240 x 320 display since I've seen this on some Sharp models, and it's such a pleasure to have such rich colour and smooth fonts, not to mention the high quality of images displayed.

You can install Java applications, some are generic but some are model specific. You can download these, both free and paid. The firmware includes the Picsel File Viewer but I haven't yet seen a definitive list of filetypes supported in the D600 (just Office, pdf, etc). This from the picsel site:

No, not double. About 40-50% more. But at release time, if there is high demand the price could be at a stupid level for a short time.

Anathanema, what will the price be of the D600 if you think to know that it will be the second most expensive phone? I would appreaciate if someone can give me a good estimation of the release price in Europe. And is it true that it will certainly not come before august?
