guys i confirm u all my i550 phone restarts alot its even restart in the middle of calls :S im sure of what im saying, it sometimes restarts for more than once like 2 or 3 times :( i really hate it and hate all samsung mobile phone now, plus the signal is very bad , i cant use untill now the WIFI i dont know why . I bought this phone from Kuwait and im using it in Egypt. i will resend it to Kuwait and take my money back . i will buy a SE phone for sure now

Tomi: therefore it is working , if you're driving , put the phone under the wind screen, detection of gps satelite sometime takes up to 5 minutes or more. my smartmovie not lagging . just the audio preroll time need to be calibrated.

Kean & rovine: yay , clap* clap* wink* , navfone is not free guys, u need to purchase it to unlock . erm , ok , i will upload it on a file hosting website soon . they are many other navigation software out there, like nokiamaps, mapking , garmin. no neccesary to stick to navfone , It wasnt that perfect software i used . ok cheers.

Hi Darren,

thanks for the advice. I can get the satellite signal already. Its just that I don't have the NAVFON software installed. Do you think you could send it over to me? My email address is iawnaek@yahoo.com

Personally I would like to meet the marketing exec who decided that Asian and the Middle East should get a WiFi enabled I550 and the rest of Europe shouldn't!

I bought this phone 15 days ago and i m pretty happy with this phone(one of the best from samsung)
-high speed wifi and gps
-superb sound quality and much louder than old samsung phones
-all most all the symbian softwares worked
-no hang up or restarts
-very large and superb screen
-navigation is bit weird but u will get used to it within 2 days
-superb battery life lasts at least 2 days on average use
This is one of the best samsung phone i have ever had.....

Tomi: I also get the problem of the first second sounding bad when I make a call...its weird.

Useing navigon mobil 6.

Cant find satelit says.(sometimes but often)

Smart movie? i tried it it is lagging.

And the sound is bad but only in the first few sec in the beggining of the call. then its ok.

TheJackal: nice finding man! a service manual , what sort of marketing strategy samsung using huh , releasing i550 and i550W . so i550w is a soldered i550.weird .

amir : If the navigation trackball stuck it is real bad man . phone completely useless .according to service manual page 23 item QJK01(unit jog ball) , it is attached to the motherboard of samsung i550 (0.0) maybe cannot be cleaned !!!=.=

Tomi : which GPS software u using? can u explain more detail how it is not working ? i'm interested to know. Tomi , what does hacky means? or it is lagging? to watch movie i use 3rd party software smart movie 3.41 s60 version , u can find it from ipmart(google it) and its converter settings for best video quality to view on phone. regarding the screen , i'm using this phone with brightness set to lowest because i'm always in indoor but i admit it is hard to see the screen during bright sunlight.
err, sound quality ? i dint have a problem with it .

One step closer to WiFi on the I550!!!

It seems the I550's PCB DOES have the WiFi hardware but its NC (Not Connected) to the main processor.

Download the service manual at this site http://www.scribd.com/doc/9454...rvice-manual and take a look at page 41 where you'll see "All component of WiFi is NC".

Now we need someone with soldering skills and a I550 to open up their I550 to connect the components!

I think too that this phone is not up to the expectations, in addition of not having any accessories in the market so far (even after 2 months of launching in Dubai), i had the phone hang-up situation and had to remove the battery and restart. The overall battery life is not good enough for mare than 36 hours (Compared to Nokia's 48-72 hours) of normal phone usage.

Hi!

Im so dissepointed of this phone!

I bought it but im gonna sell it right away!
Im never ever going to buy this brand again.

First of all my gps dont work at all!

You cant whatch movies on it either (yes i tried lower resolution but it is way to hacky)realplayer is bad.
I even installd divx player but it is way to hacking no matter which resolution i use.
(maybe its dont have enough processor speed or memory?)

The screen isnt bright enough even if it is on its max!
Sound quality is bad during phone calls!

The worst phone ever for me!

Im sorry but i cant find anything good about it!:(

i only experience auto restart once . still acceptable, havent been a problem to me yet. even my old nokia 6260 symbian OS s60 restart itself sometimes. btw, what accesories u finding?

I just bought the phone a week ago in Malaysia. I am beginning to worry after reading all this posts here. I have no restart problems but I can't seem to use the GPS feature. I'm not sure if you need to register with a service provider in order to use it. As of now, whenever I try out the GPS I will get the "no connection" on my screen. Also, there is no NAVFON software in my phone but I have a NAVFON trial period card. So do I need to have a registration with a service provider in order to use the GPS function?
