Spica is useless for gaming because it lacks GPU, even after upgrade it to 2.2 custom ROM Froyo won't improve its gaming section.
Too bad this device lacks GPU so it is useless for 3D game although it has a 800 MHz processor. Even Samsung I5500 and Sony Ericsson X8 which are cheaper has its own GPU.
it can be updated to froyo (2.2). But it's unoficial. The rom is cyanogenmod 6.1. And about Ginger (2.3) there another rom (cyanogenmod 7) but it's not fully functional, for example, camera doesn't work till now. We should wait and then we can enjoy 2.3
Hi I've got a FEW quirk on the phone.
1.when I'm charging the phone & using it the touchscreen goes mad and startd inputing words&letters in that u never touched.
2.it does not register the sd card on the phone even though the photo gallery has my family photo on it from the sd card.
3.can't remove app shortcuts from the wallpaper screen.
4.YOU CAN'T UPGRADE THE OS BY JUST GOING TO THE SAMSUNG SITE ON THE PHONE.
5.ITS DOES NOT accept PDF FILES.
Spica 2.2.1 ( Froyo - CyanogenMod 6.1.1 )
ROM - 416,3 Mb
RAM - 159 Mb
Spica can be upgrade to Froyo with 1Ghz OC and 3D drivers... So Spica now can be fast :)
Kalpesh, 24 Feb 2011Is this Device Operating System can be upgraded from 1.5 to 3.0 Gingerbread?No way in hell. 3.0 is tablet only.
and Gingerbread (2.3) requires a hardware GPU which this phone does not have.

Spica processor is a S3C6410 can you update?
anonim, 17 Feb 2011don't you know about apps2sd? it can store your apps into sdapps2sd only works if you ROOT your phone, which means a lot of rocket science is involved. Standard out-of-the-box Spica? Forget it, you're stuck with the measly stock memory.
Anonymous, 31 Jan 2011my opinion to one aspiring for an android phone, if you want to buy android phone, i think u c... moredon't you know about apps2sd?
it can store your apps into sd
Basic thing (3G) connectivity in this phone does not work or works sometimes :(
Sad because it's basic functionality!

Anonymous, 30 Jan 2011i've already sell my spica for these reasons; 1. i was not satisfied w/ the cam, so bad, 2. ... moreIf you only knew about samdroid before you sold your spica, you'll be much happier with your spica. Honestly, Samsung Spica stock firmware is a crap but with Samdroid, we are enjoying Android Froyo 2.2 much better than the Samsung Spica stock firmware.
Anonymous, 30 Jan 2011i've already sell my spica for these reasons; 1. i was not satisfied w/ the cam, so bad, 2. ... moreI have tried the Spica camera and for my surprise it has an excelent performance...Good definition, excelent reproduction of color, very good focus, excelent capture of detail in contrast scenes..the only minus is in low light scenes, but remember is a phone camera.
my opinion to one aspiring for an android phone, if you want to buy android phone, i think u choose with bit big internal memory, i think at least 250mb above, for you enjoy the apps in the free market. If get one that small internal memory, u just get annoy with the phone, coz lots of android apps, 'matically save n the phone memory, except musics, vids & pics save to sd card. I you buy with 60mb, just a waste of money, whats for, u buy android but u can,t enjoy it. you better decide, you'll see..
so what do u think of this compared to SE Xperia 8? or might as well the samsung i5500 instead? they say it has a good batt life though.
even if it's 1500mah still poor battery life?.. darn ive always wanted to switch to spica lite but after i've read ur opinion, it made me hate this phone anymore hehe.. :þ
i've already sell my spica for these reasons;
1. i was not satisfied w/ the cam, so bad,
2. short battery life span,standby mode for just
1day,really bad,
3. i was not satisfied with a touchscereen keypad,and
4. it is heavy and bulky
qualities i liked;
My experience; internet is good, but really drains battery, u have to continuously recharge,but if do, your phone will get hot, how can u enjoy of its wifi if u dont use it, but realy dispointing battery life span, i think because of its phone built and physical volume. when u use it at night while recharging then when charge off and u see battery icon is full but the phone already hot, then u go to sleep and set the alarm clock coz of appointment, u hope that you will wake its alarm in the morning, no, no, its already low bat. im already late to my appointment. how many times i was placed that phone in shame. that's why i decided to sell that. i think whatever cellphone with wifi and with a big and metalized built would drains battery, coz of its wifi and usage.dont buy wifi cellphone if you want a long life span bat cellphone. that's all folks. you'll see...
